 I didn't state a damn thing... you call it a disclaimer I call it a piece of useless information that doesn't differentiate the two in my eyes. The Knicks were 14-10 at home at the time of Kobe's 61pt game.. the players at least had enough pride to "try" and defend their home-court... the fans? Not so much.

This same topic came up on another forum and no one was going to the lengths you're going (after you said as much as I've been saying) to "proclaim" the situations are different... because they're not.

I just think it's ridiculous when someone goes out of their way to insult a fanbase they claim to be a part of. I actually said the exact same thing "I'm not gonna say anything bc the Knicks fans did it to Kobe once too" but there's obvious differentiation...a 61 point record breaking performance being so obvious it's ridiculous.

And I felt insulted to be part of a fanbase that would slurp on the "enemy" (that's what you guys call them around here right.. that's what being a real "fan" is right?) regardless of the circumstance.

Let me ask you a question... show me the time... any point in time (when they were good, when they were bad).. where a Knick got a standing ovation and MVP chants at the Staples center or at the old Forum? Heck I'll make it infinitely easier for you.. find me a clip of Lakers fans giving Lebron that treatment?

To me it's the same thing... no difference.. an opposing player getting MVP chants and a standing ovation in hostile territory. Just a difference in opinion... no biggie. Y'all want to add certain criteria to the discussion to excuse the behavior (probably because some of you were in the stands with pom poms) and I might just be a little old school where you either boo opposing players or you do nothing.

Ibraheim, you know that's loaded, the Knicks haven't never in their existence had a player as dominant as the Lakers all time greats.

Plus the Lakers have always been about winning championships just like the Celtics, so of course they'd rarely if ever cheer any opponent.

They draft and acquire HOF-ers, and dont dwell on middlings, they toss those all the time.

I gave Lebron as an option as well.

Thugger... would you have been in the stands standing, chanting MVP for Kobe?

Of course not, and Kobe is my favorite player, but I would have enjoyed his performance as i did watching it on tv....I'm an NBA fan whose favorite team is the Knicks.

I just think comparing the two fanbases just isn't fair, the Lakers have expectations that's been built for decades of existence....the Knicks dont compare in that fashion mainly because they've never had the players.

When you have a good majority of the top 10 players of all-time, you'll never cheer an opponents player in that fashion.

But I'd betcha those Lakers fans respect Jordan and wont put down anything he's accomplished.

 That's like 3 guys standing next to the mics... come on man.. you can't tell the difference? Staples it stone dead quiet except for these 3 heat fans.

Anyway I'll let you guys have this one... I'll just chalk it up to todays fans being a little different.. than fans from the past... or maybe I spent too much time in Philly where their fans are a little more brash.

I enjoyed the performance also... but when he got the standing O and the MVP chants I got a little sick to my stomach... I got sick to my stomach seeing Lebron get the same treatment also.

I just was reading along in the thread and cats were turning their noses up because Kobe was getting MVP chants in Brooklyn and I thought... hmmm.. I could have sworn we did the same thing at the garden. And low and behold..

I doubt Knicks fans as a whole would have cheered Kobe's performance last night as MVP worthy.

There is a difference on that though, but BK doesn't have a fan base yet, it's obvious.

Look, Knicks fans appreciate great basketball. It's a token of our deep appreciation for the game itself. Reggie, the villain got his name chanted in his last game at the garden. Kobe set a bench mark that may hold for a long time when he got those chants. With Lebron the Knicks fans thought he was on his way, though it was far less forgivable. Knicks fans have shown respect for a long time when a player does a helluva job. We have fun hating these guys, but we respect them. I'd be talking trash, but I'm not revoking fan passes when people show appreciation for historic nights.

Comparing a group of fans appreciating a great moment to a bunch of fans turning on their home team in the waning minutes despite the fact a guy has had a mediocre at best performance just wasn't fair.

Totally agree, and no vids are even necessary.

I wouldn't have cheered though, but there is no doubt I would have chalked those moments as great memories seen in person.

Yeah, the videos just go to show that this isn't some new phenomenon. Jordan walked off to a standing O and Reggie got his name chanted. Both of those moments go back beyond the week of stars. I'd have probably given those two a standing O...no MVP chants for Kobe or Bron...but a send off to a famous bitter rival, I think I'd be down for. That said, those are Standing O's in hostile territory.

But this is not normal. I remember the "oohs" and "aahs" for Jordan but NEVER cheers during the game. The resident Knick fans would never allow that. These "fans" were just looking for a show, not a win - they dont represent true fans.

What the hell has happened to some of these Knicks fans nowadays? Self-loathing, rooting for the other team/their star player, etc... It's downright blasphemous and pathetic.

I've questioned Garden fans for the longest time and the fanbase overall....simply put ours is trash. We complain and whine when things don't go our way and when they do it's supposed to be this way because we're the New York Knicks. Please go on with that mess.

In my "book" of fandom there is only 1 reason to give an opposing player a standing ovation... on his retirement tour.

And a returning player's first game back for me. I just don't hate on fans that do so for other things, namely a historic scoring night. The Lebron cheering was dumb (but then again, if it had gotten him to the garden I'd never question it).
