Meet potential Celtics first round pick Giannis Adetokunbo

Post#1 » by peachbucket » Wed Feb 6, 2013 9:12 pm

18 year old, 6'9.5"with 7'2" wingspan. Very similar physical tools and game to a one Kevin Durant.

Looks like they have been scouting him extensively and supposedly told him their intent to draft him in 2013 draft. Glad to know Ainge hasn't forgotten that there is basketball outside the US. The other benefit of drafting him is that it will force Tommy Heinsohn into retirement.

He will not be available to play in the NBA until 2017... so... forget it!

2nd link…

He is the wonder boy of Greek basketball and therefore Zaragoza chose to sign Yiannis Adetocumbo from Filathlitikos two months ago. But there is a chance that he never plays in Spain, since NBA teams have already shown great interest in him and he can be picked in the upcoming draft.

Austin Ainge visited last week Athens and watched him during a practice of his team. Celtics’ director of player personnel will probably return again in Athens this season, as many other NBA executives are expected to do. Adetocumbo plays the point guard position, but he is 2,07 m. tall (6 ft 9) and has an impressive 2,21 m. (7 ft 2) wingspan.

The article didn't talk about any clause but it doesn't mean there isn't one...

Btw with 5-10 millions there's no way they don't sell him...

The youtube video is about him in some youth championship, +/- a less competitive High School championship, I would wait until He plays some Real BBall, or just use a pick on The 2nd round for him.

We'd have to tank next season, and with our luck in draft lotteries we probably still don't get the top pick.

Jonathan Givony ‏@DraftExpress

I'll have a very interesting video, scouting report and interview to share from my trip soon. The 2013 draft is looking stronger by the day.

Jonathan Givony Jonathan Givony ‏@DraftExpress

Productive trip to Athens, which I expected to look like South Central LA after the '92 riots based on media reports. Don't believe the hype

I assume this is who he is referring to. Not that the C's are doing anything more than scouting and doing diligence on the guy, but interesting when someone comes out of the blue.

Not to stir anything up, but I'm pretty sure the lottery isn't about luck - the 1st pick has always ended up rather "conveniently" towards the league's agenda and publicity.

Has all the tools, except he needs a lot of work on his jumpshot. Experience, Mass Gain and a Jump Shot can be developed easily within 3-4 years.

He's a very interesting prospect, nonetheless.

That's a silly, embarrassing conspiracy theory unless you make an argument with evidence to back it up.

I can't believe people still think the lottery is fixed.

So he has the skills of KD except for the one thing that makes KD a top-5 player.

This year's draft sucks. Might as well take a flyer on the kid and use a pick on him. If this kid really is their target, I think the Celtics trade out of the first round for a 2nd rounder (to lessen the luxury tax penalties), take this kid and let him mature in Europe.

Let's delete this thread before other teams' GMs see it. We all know how they love to follow Ainge around due to his nose for talent.

No real proof this guy can actually ball considering the league he's currently playing in. Time will tell

He makes his first appearance on a media draft board. After John Givony's scouting trip, he lands at #29 on the draft express mock.

Also, this kid is basically like an old fashioned HS player in the draft, just turned 18.
