Can someone explain how you would use the 7mil? I know it has to do with cutting a player, are there any other uses? And how does it affect cap total?

Also, what's the difference between waiving or buying out?

If you waive a player if the contract is guarenteed, the player is no longer on your roster, but you still must pay his salary. If you buy a player out, you pay a one time fee to completely wipe their salary from the roster.

The 7 mil can be used in trades as a trade chip.

So you can use the 7mil to buy out a player and wipe their salary off. What if you have a player at 2 mil 1st year, 2 mil 2nd year, can you wipe both years for 4mil ?

BTW this isn't like real life right, it can't happen irl??

Players can be bought out in a real life as well. It doesn't exactly happen often.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't buy out players mid-season. It has to be during the offseason.

Since I've gotten about six emails about this:

Players bought out now will have a cap hit on their team for this season, but not following seasons.

Does anyone have a good nba stats website where you can organize players by more columns than nba.com stats... like contract size or years played in nba?

idk exactly what your looking for, but basketball-reference.com has just about every NBA stat that there is, although I haven't seen RAPM on it. Anything else though, it's bound to have it, from 5 man units to box score stats, to shot charts, ect.

I checked out that site but didn't see the Player Season Finder section. Thanks. Unfortunately I see no salary column.

Commish, are you going to let us know when the free agent signing deadline is? Will there be one?

And also if we're signing a free agent, how do you decide which offer is better? e.g. If team A gives player X a 3 year 9mil total contract, and team B offers him 2 year at 8mil, which team gets him?

Per year first, then length. Most players being signed right now are signing at under market value (just got Bargnani for 4M/4M) so it's not likely that someone who is likely to hang around in the league for many years is going to take a 1M/1M/1M/1M offer over a 1-year 3M deal. Plus the way it works is you have to outbid on the yearly salary and equal (or better) contract length.

Mostly. Since Young is only out 10-12 games tops, it's unlikely that his 3-week absence tanks a team as much as say, Brandon Rush going out for the season right at the beginning. I personally factor in how injury-prone players are as well to predict future injuries when ranking, but that's up to you. Last game we had a team with Andrew Bynum, Eric Gordon, and another very injury prone star, that when healthy, could very well have contended for a title, but given their recent history of season-decimating injuries, I couldn't even vote them into the playoffs.

Sorry for adding to the buyout questions, but if I wanted to buyout Michael Beasley, could I do it? I have $7 million in cash. He gets paid 5.75 million this year, 6 million next year, and has 6.25 nonguaranteed on his 3rd year. If I can't buy him out now, when would I be able to?

You need the total o the contract, plus 500 k

So if the deal is 3 years, 3 mil, you need 9.5 mil

2 years, 10 mil you need 20.5 mil

Hope that helps

Okay, thank you, that did. Last question, would that include non-guaranteed years as well when calculating that? Or would I only include what's guaranteed?

You have to send every buy out offer to the commish before posting anyways

So he can verify

PG: Greivis Vasquez / Brian Roberts
SG: Austin Rivers
SF: Al-Farouq Aminu / Xavier Henry
PF: Serge Ibaka / Ryan Anderson / Nick Collison / Tyrus Thomas
C: Dwight Howard / Robin Lopez / TImofey Mozgov

Dwight Howard is virtually off-limit unless you're offering Kevin Durant or LeBron James, so don't even ask. One of Ryan Anderson or Serge Ibaka needs to be moved, I think at this point I'd lean towards Ibaka. I'm also offering up my 1st (unprotected), Austin Rivers, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Robin Lopez for the best possible piece in return.

have an opportunity to pick up an injury prone player. When it comes time to decide the playoffs, is there a built in assumption that teams are going to be at full strength? Or could somebody say, well, like that team but their main guys will probably be hurt for the series so they lose?
