What makes it really great is that people on the internets don't get irony, and are now probably looking forward to the pics tomorrow :D

How is it irony? If he's telling the truth as opposed to just making up a fanciful story to illustrate his view on Leo, it's not irony. If he's making up a fanciful story to illustrate his view on Leo ... it's still not irony.

It would be irony because the stories make it seem like Leo isn't the problem, which means he's implying that us fans are the problem. i.e, we expect too much of him.

Of course, this is all if the stories are fake, but that doesn't seem to be the case..lol

You're right that it's moot because the stories are pretty clearly true (or otherwise this poster has way too much time on his hands), but ...re: this third option, which I should have included in my original response since it's more likely to be the case than the second option I listed: it still isn't irony.

Sarcasm and irony are not synonymous. Sarcasm can and often does employ irony; it didn't, however, in this case. An ironic expression is an expression whose literal meaning is the opposite of its intended meaning, i.e. the meaning the speaker intended to convey.

Thus, assuming the stories are made up, and for the reason you say, if what he were saying was said ironically, then his intended meaning would be that Leo (and LeBron etc..) are actually great guys. That clearly wouldn't be the intended meaning of such a display, though; the intended meaning would be, as you say, just that we're morons and need to settle down. In other words, in this case it would be mockery, sarcasm, etc. but not irony.

WTF is going on in this thread!...when did it become ok to stalk people...to the people that posted on the first page you outta ashamed of yourselves. Re-read those stories and tell me you're not just bothering these people because your star struck...these first two guys both said they said hello once and then proceeded to follow around Leo/Sherm to talk to them again....and still have the nerve to call these guys **** after they get annoyed.

I don't care if those stories are true or not. They're awesomely hilarious.

There's some borderline creeper-level stories in this thread, fake or not. Mines not so much. I was saw Sonny Weems at best buy once while I was working there. He was wearing a hoodie and him and a friend came into the PS3 section and were browsing for games. New games are locked up in a cage at the front so after looking around for a bit he said "HEY YO, WHERE THE GAMES AT MAN?". So as I was walking towards him from the camera section, a few kids go over to him and ask him for autographs. He signs the autographs unenthusiastically, no smiles whatsoever (The Main Event would have been disappointed), and then quickly puts his hood over his head. I walk over to him and tell him the new games are at the front and I liked how he put his hood on to avoid attention. He smiled and walked to the front were he talked with the General Manager for a bit. I guess after awhile even role players get sick of the attention.

I saw Cabbie at best buy once too. We walked by each other and gave each other a head nod and simply walked past. No words, no autographs, no smiles, just pure respect for each others profession that day.

A few years ago, I met Jay Triano when he was still an assistant coach (I think).

I was on my way to a job interview and I saw him at Union Station.

He was getting some ice cream at DQ and I walked up to him and said "Hey, you're Jay Triano."

He acknowledged and said "Hey, how's it going?"

So this was just before TJ Ford was traded and I flat out asked him where is he going to end up and Jay told me that they were talking with Indiana and Charlotte at the time and then he wished me good luck on my interview.

I know this isn't really the same thing because he isn't an analyst like Jay or Sherm, but thought I'd share the story.

Overall he was a pretty nice guy.
Sandy Gold: "Have you ever waxed?"

Andrea Bargnani: "Uhh remove hair? No, no, no. For what? No, no, no, never. I don't have alot of hair, no. I don't have like hair on the shoulders so I'm cool."

This.

These are regular dudes. I wouldn't want some random stranger asking me about Andrea Bargnani's cup size while I'm doing my grocery either.

Cristobal wrote:I used to work at a store and random "celebrities" or "known" people always came and go. A couple months ago Leo came into the store with his wife (looked like she had too many plastic surgeries). It was really busy and the staff were running around everywhere. I was able to greet him at the door and he seemed like a nice guy. He was really hesitant to get some help, but it's our job to make sure everyone is good in the store, looked for and cared for. He was looking at this one jacket and asked if I could check the back if there was any in his size. None. So I recommended another jacket that was not in store at the moment, but was available to order. He loved it, so he ordered it. He really appreciated my help and customer service, and kept asking me about certain products and the benefits there on, yadda yadda yadda. I've never liked him as a commentator, but I think he's a cool guy in person. I was able to squeeze in a basketball/ Raptors related question while I was helping him. I asked, "What are your thoughts on the Raptors right now?" And he said "Man, something has to happen soon. It's frustrating for everyone and someone might lose their job soon. Something has to change, or someone." Something along those lines. This was in the beginning of December, right before that mini winning streak we had. I was able to check out what car he was driving. Dude had a early-mid 2000's Ford Expedition with a NY plate.

How's that as a first post?

I wouldn't go that far.

But I'm certain The Main Event is creepy whether his stories are real or not. Talk about a lack of social boundaries if any of those stories are true.

I was in Toronto the other week, purchasing a jar of pickles. On my GO Train ride home, Leo Rautins took one look at my coat and laughed. "Nice coat, jerkass!", he snickered. "I had a coat like that years ago while they were still fashionable, geekwad", he added. I went home feeling really sad.

The best part was leaning over Lebrons shoulder and going, "Checking your fantasy teams? hahahaha!" and Lebron giving him the stink eye. I love these stories man, I need to hear this Antonio one!

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Last night's game he was just unwatchable. After a few games with Jack, it was a brutal reminder. H

Leo's captain hindsight. Eg. Alan Anderson had a strong take where his layout rimmed out and then Leosaid something about how his shot wasn't falling so he should have passed to Bargnani. Made no sense since he hadn't tried to shoot (he had drove) and since Bargnani had missed like all of his shots that half. Then a play or two later Anderson had another strong take where he converted his layup and he was praising him for how he didn't stop attacking even though he had just finished talking about how he needed to give it up

That's not even the worst example but for some reason it irked me.

Back in the 2000s when I wore baggy jeans I was at food basics looking for some bananas...Suddenly Leo popped up in front of me and I got startled and jumped up as I was landing my pants fell down. Leo looked downwards at my boxers and said "Yep that's a 7 Footer right there!!!!"... Leo loves 7 footers ;)

Leo Rautins once stopped at Union Station to listen to the homeless musician. For 15 minutes.

He walked away without tipping.
