Firstly Karl isn't a good coach at all, if anyone is running a gimmick he's the master of it.
Both of these teams play with a huge amount of effort....that's there game combined with doing it as a team.
I do like Thibbs...all of his teams have been successful, he'll have a ring as HC before Karl which will never get one.
A little footnote, George Karl played in the NBA as well, the Knicks drafted him although he didn't play for us.
Didn't Karl go to the finals with the Sonics? I don't think Thibs gets a ring with this Chicago team. They need another player.
Karl may have played 40 years ago, but he's still a pro. He knows his stuff, which is something that cannot be said about the majority of NBA coaches. Guys like Avery Johnson, Del-Negro, Mark Jackson, Scott and so on, are basically motivators and have little understanding of the game. Overall, the level of coaching in the league is ridiculous.
I think Thibs gets his players to do exactly what he wants and its effective, but the fact that a defense with such glaring holes has success in this league says a lot about the coaching.
Do you recall the Sonics team? I do, they were always the most talented yet underachieved damn near every year in the playoffs, and alot of that was squarely on the shoulders of George Karl.
I'll never kick a man when he is down, but his bout with cancer kept him employed....dude is garbage.
He's marginally better than D'antoni.
