In baseball close to this time in the season they expand the roster and call up the prospects. The easiest thing to do is just look to the D-League. I don't see why Tim Ohlbrecht (just announced as a d-league all-star) couldn't be given a shot with a team like the Bobcats. Why not.

Why? For not making a trade three weeks before the trade deadline? We have no idea what goes on in any front office, including our own a lot of the time.

Why Reggie Williams and Tyrus Thomas haven't been let go yet is beyond me. We should've amnestied Thomas this summer for the roster spot and once it became clear that Reggie was healthy and still hopeless we should've waived him too. With those two gone and with the roster spot we already have, I don't see why we won't just have a revolving door of 10-day contracted D-Leaguers and hope one works out the way Adrien has for us.

I guess I'm just becoming a little too pessimistic about our chances to make a trade that will make me optimistic again before this season is out. You're right though. OKC's front office has done a decent job of not leaking info about possible trades over the years. The James Harden and Jeff Green blockbusters basically popped up out of the blue.

So, to begin the season we were over the Salary Cap by roughly the amount of Cory Higgins' contract. He's waived, so does that mean we're back at the cap, or still over by 190k? And is this the reason management has resisted filling roster spot 15?

(Bear in mind that most 10 day contracts will cost us about $35-$75K, which seems like a reasonably minor investment if we find a keeper ala Rocky.)

I imagine Higgins was waived before he was fully guaranteed.

He was. We waived right before the point were his contract would have been guaranteed.

We never had a chance of trading for Lamb. The Thunder wanted him for the same reason we do. He is a young player to develop, and eventually compliment Westbrook and Durant. Those two have been so successful that I believe people forget that neither is 25 yet.

They don't like him.

The nba does have a minimum salary. Without Tyrus we would not have the minimum salary required. Don't you think this revolving door policy you suggest might affect team chemistry?

I think his agent is basically stringing the entire league along (I would too), but it is true that Ole' glass knees would be a good fit here and we are in a position to take a bit more of a gamble salary wise than other near-or over-the-cap teams. However - so is Cleveland...

I would love to take a chance on Oden, if we can get him for the right price. He knows he would get starters minutes if he is healthy.

Some team is going to throw a ridiculous amount of money at Oden, and if he can stay healthy he might be worth it. Oden was one hell of a prospect comming out of college, and he is still only 26.

It's a longshot but Hickson + Oden if healthy solves our front court and allows us to hoard all our picks. I really hope we sign Hickson at the very least.

I wish he would just sign with a team so we can all move on

agreed - he is the walking embodiment of the 'grass is always greener' syndrome that plagues NBA front offices. They're all problem gamblers. (I still say we roll the dice).

Does anyone think Cho will be interested in Josh Smith? Is he worth giving a max contract? It's rare to find his production at SF and I like his ability to rebound. I would prefer a more temporary test trial with Granger for 1 year though.

Definitely not worth max money.

I think Hickson will end up here. Would be a pretty solid signing.

Hickson just want a long-term home and he's already familiar with NC. I'd rather overpay for him then trade for lesser player like Humphries.

Player A 6'10 290# 28yo
Last 10 games
Min FG RPG APG BPG PPG
32 50% 8.1 2.3 1.4 18.4

Salary: 15,000,000

Player B 7'0 250# 24yo
Last 10 games
Min FG RPG APG BPG PPG
27 63% 6 .8 1.4 14.4

Salary 5,000,000

I'm not saying Player B is a better player, but for our small market team and where we are in rebuilding, I would rather sign Player B for $5 mln this summer than Player A for 15 mln.

(Player A is Al Jefferson; Player B is Robin Lopez)

robin lopez would be a solid free agent pick up. i think he will stay in new orleans though. just a gut feeling. AD isnt ready to play center and lopez is the only real center they have.

Via Hoopsworld: http://www.hoopsworld.com/new-pekovic-deal-could-put-wolves-into-tax/

As for Nikola Pekovic it’s a little more complicated. Minnesota loves Pekovic and really doesn’t want to trade him; however, it is becoming increasingly clear that Pekovic is going to draw a major multi-year offer as a restricted free agent. Assuming Andrei Kirilenko picks up his $10.21 million player option as he has said he’ll do; the Wolves could find themselves looking at the luxury tax line if someone offers Pekovic $10 million or more per season in free agency.
Wolves source say that future luxury tax really is not factoring into their process, but for Minnesota luxury tax is a scary concept considering where they project in the West.
