cbr,
I can't remember which thread, but I remember you saying you liked Tim Ferriss and were kind of annoyed with Rogan's rants when he was on the podcast. If so, you should check out Bryan Callen's podcast. Ferriss was the guest recently, I'm only 20 minutes in but there has already been more interesting stuff in this than Rogan's entire show with him imho (nutrition, methods of learning, various interesting studies, etc.).

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Matt Riddle is an a hole.
"I think [Hall's] knockout was definitely one of the flashiest and hard-hitting knockouts. Usually knockouts that happen that way aren't as hard-hitting as that. It was a really impressive knockout and he did a lot of damage with that kick. That said, when I was on season seven, I broke that dude's jaw in three places and gave him a level three concussion which means he had amnesia and he didn't remember six months of his life. So that guy (Adam Cella) got his memory back in an hour, my guy didn't get his memory back for six months AND he had his jaw wired for six months. So I think his knockout was definitely fancier and definitely way prettier, but medically and in long term damage, I still hold the record."

I wouldn't be surprised to hear he holds records in damage taken as well, just listen to him speak for 30 seconds. JK, I think he's just a really, really goofy dude.

I have no idea if they do or not.
I know Shogun's guy is there a lot, and they have some affiliation with Kings MMA,
but who knows.
Christie Pits needs a public octagon for all the locals to bang, bro.
I know a couple of guys who go to Old School Muay Thai, and I heard Rory Mac and Schaub did some classes there,
so maybe they can give them some pub.
(Which I assume most gyms would want to get,
so being on the show would be great press.)
TorontoBJJ's striking classes were ridic unorganized and sparring was for keeps. But if you're already a pro, maybe that's fine. IDK about their BJJ except dudes were grody as ****. Ewwwwwwwwwwww.
OSMT, and all Siam #1-associated gyms, are excellent.
Yup.
Another of of my good buds is at the new Krudar location in the market, it looks awesome.
I don't know that much about BJJ gyms, but ringworm tales are some of the grossest tales in the world.
They should have gyms exclusive for clean people, like you have to be approved. lol

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Preventing crap like that is just a matter of common sense. Clean the mats after EVERY class, and not just once at the end of the night.
Problem solved.

What about Stinkys? I mean, those people that just naturally smell.
I had a buddy growing up who was a pretty succcesful Canadian university wrestler,
and he would complain about this from time to time.
He said smelly people actually have an advantage sometimes,
because their odour becomes distracting.
One day, I will start a clean gym, where we hose you down, and lime you up, before you can ever enter.

Yeah, that was Lindland's tactic... get all hot and sweaty and stinky. I've often wondered why more fighters don't do that... can you imagine finding yourself under a smelly Roy Nelson? Do you hip escape and risk being trapped under his crotch in the scramble? Do you hug and hope for a stand up? I don't think there's anything the commission can do about a fighter who refuses to bathe for a week before a fight.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Had a new guy at the gym recently. Bigger guy, tall, kind of overweight but mostly just a big framed dude.
Anyway, after class chatting it up while cleaning. Said I can't wait to shower because I was just drenched in sweat. He said something along the lines of "shower? the only thing I have energy for after training is to go home and straight to bed". The thought of someone under blankets sleeping with 2.5 hrs of dude sweat and germs all over their body makes me want to vomit, seriously they may as well be a petri dish. Luckily the dude only lasted a few weeks.

It was people's personal hygiene and grasp of sanitation at TorontoBJJ. You'd be grappling for like 45 mins, all over each other with their nasty feet and your hands on the mat, and then I'd watch them line-up at the bathroom sink to cup their unwashed hands for drinks of water. I was dry-wretching.
But I've also seen some gross things at Mecha (R.I.P.). They didn't have soap in their washroom for over a month at one point. No one pointed it out or seemed concerned (I just brought my own). One particular guy - old, smelly, east-euro - would come in before the evening practice every day and take a shameless dump, then hit the mats. He'd 'rinse' his hands, cos no soap, and then be out there grappling. Eww. Just imagining chokes and reverse triangles...
I didn't know Krudar had a new location. They certainly needed it. Fitness levels out of that gym are awesome.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I can remember Quinton fighting him ins ome obscure org and commenting in his ring itnerview afterwards it was like wrestling a big stinky skunk. He sort of chuckled at it, though.
I'm trying to think if I can recall some other anecdotes about dudes using that as a tactic...

Dana White just set up Nick the Tooth vs Bloodstainlane in some sort of fight next week. Didn't say the rules yet.
LMAO.
Its also hilarious that for the first time in forever this prompted me to visit bloodstain's twitter. He changed his name to "Reptilian Slayer". I wonder if he knows that he is calling himself reptilian there.

On it.
Rogan may be a rambling stoner, but he's loveable, Callen can be a serious douche. But he may do better with the itnerview, I don't know.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Well the Callen format is more like an interview, so if you like the stuff Ferriss writes about you will dig this. E.g., Callen asks him what he recommends people eat for breakfast and stuff. They also take about the weird learning methods that Ferriss apparently frequently employs. Rogan podcast as you know is more a free flowing conversation.
Callen seems brighter and less credulous than Rogan to me. I only listened to one other podcast of his though (Nate Marquardt interview), and don't listen to him on JRE anymore since they just talk about hunting now, so I didn't know he was douchey.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Slightly OT but also mma related: I guess they are going to cut wrestling from the olympics? I haven't read the entire article just the headline but from the facebook reactions it seems like a done deal.
After all the crappy sports I watched in the olympics last summer I am pretty shocked they chose wrestling to drop. It just has such tradition and has been around literally forever.
This is definitely going to have an effect on mma talent.

How so? Maybe dudes training MMA sooner? Most of the former Olympians describe the experience more of a "nice to have" versus something that helped immensely in their training and eventual career.
Also, Bellator/Eddie is heating up. Rebney refused to have a live debate with Alvarez, who claims there's no PPV planned anytime soon. If Bellator ends up winning the lawsuit, I see a freak "injury" in Eddie's case.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
I just see guys like Jenkins, Cormier, Lawal beginning to train mma / focus on mma at an earlier age and possibly develop their games even more. I mean timing is huge with the olympics obviously but these guys getting into mma earlier is definitely a possibility I'd imagine. Maybe there are less total guys who enter mma if they haven't focused on wrestling for so long after college, but the ones who do enter could see mma as the ultimate goal as opposed to the olympics.
I can't see there not being repurcussions of this, maybe I'm wrong.

MMAhour listen: Manuwa/Cub interviews were really boring, hopefully this picks up.
Ariel's mini-rant about the ufc's current way of handling title shots was a good one imo. I don't like it either, and its cool coming from Ariel because he's such a ufc schill that if it comes from him you know there has to be something to it.
Right now:
-Sonnen is coming off a loss and getting a title shot in a division he hasn't fought in in forever.
-Edgar was coming off of 2 losses and got a title shot in a division he never fought in.
-Pettis is getting a title shot in a division he never fought in, leaving guys like Lamas, KZ, Poirier/Cub winner wondering what's next. Hell there was a time when 145 sucked and this would have been welcome, but tbh there are contenders now.
-Diaz is getting a title shot off a loss, jumping imo one of the worthiest contenders in forever in Hendricks.
The gist of Ariel's rant was missing the days when fighters had to work their way up the ladder in the division that they wanted the fight in. I agree. Cub Swanson said if 155ers keep dropping to 145 he may go up to 155 lol. At least they made Florian beat a severely overrated Nunes.
