Nick Barnett?

Post#1 » by Icness » Mon Feb 11, 2013 10:17 pm

He got cut by the Bills today in a salary cap/youth movement. I suggested on Twitter that the Packers should have interest and I'm getting flamed all over the place from Packers fans. Help me out here, why does seemingly every Packers fan hate him so much? He was the 7th rated ILB last season according to PFF and is better in coverage than anyone currently on the roster, plus he knows the system and many of the players. I get that he's kinda soft, but what else am I missing? Honest question.

Was a drama queen.

Made his dispute with the team about the team superbowl and the IR'ed players public. Had a few small issues like this over the years if I remember.

Had a distressing habit of celebrating a tackle that took place past the first down marker.

I also seem to remember him making some comments about how he didn't like GB on his way out.

Best I got

He turns 32, burned some bridges on his way out. I always liked the guy but we can do better.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

He also was arrested for battery, and ran a night club that citizens of GB learned to dispise thanks to constant noise and fights outside of it.

I would love an upgrade at MLB, but if I have to see his samarui dance after another 7 yard gain I might lose my $hit.

He was the only LB I ever hated more than Hawk. Just like Hawk he would let the RB pick up 7 or 8 yards before trying to tackle him, but unlike Hawk he'd then celebrate like he just got the game winning sack. Essentially AJ Hawk ability mixed with Jermichael Finley antics. Not interested.

Would rather cut Hawk and take Minter provided he lasts to #26.

Never understood the hate. Good player. Better than Hawk at least. People got buttsore over Team photo-gate before the Super Bowl, but Barnett was right on that issue anyways. I would take him back and fill other needs with premium picks. I also would love to get the other guy Buffalo cut, George Wilson.

Barnett (and Finley) were definitely right about the team photograph issue. Don't think they should have publicly aired out their concerns, but if that was the only thing that got the team to listen, I don't blame them. It was just a sloppy job of team management by MM.

But that's old news anyway. I'd be fine if they brought back Barnett on a reasonable deal. He's a solid MLB and would be superior to Hawk. If he's still got something left in the tank, I think they should take a look at him.

Its because hes a Douche off the field and on the field. He got in alot of trouble in bars/clubs here and thats very hard to do. Hes in the decline of his career and its best to stay away from players like this especially if they cant offer you much on the field. Something like this might be ok for the Cowboys but not for the Packers.

Just like a crazy/hot scale that women have to pass. The crazyier the girl the hotter she has to be or its not worth it. Same with players. The more trouble they get in off the field the better they need to perform on the field.

Were having the same issue with Finley now. Hes on the border. he for sure was gettin gcut and than cleaned it up alittle and now it seems like its 50/50 if he stays.

I'd be fine with cutting Hawk and bringing Barnett in to just compete for a job, but only on a one year contract or two year deal where he could be cut after the first year without any sort of noticeable cap hit.

Barnett's samarai thing after a play was equivalent to if Finley drops a pass and goes crazy. It was just bad, and what really pissed a lot of people off.

Yeah I remember one play during his last year here (against the Bills maybe, second game of the season?) where the Packers gave up like an 8 yard run or something, Barnett made the tackle and did his samurai thing and the crowd just booed him for about 10 seconds.

Over-the-hill headcase. Always had a good amount of talent, but he's not Packer people.

But i'm more ready to cut ties with Hawk than you are. So if Barnett earned the starting job, that would be a a good thing in my eyes, irregardless of saving much money or not.

Always liked him. I never care about celebrations.
