We might possibly foist Josh Smith to the Spurs?
Spurs have some real assets, unlike the Nets. Would Stephen Jackson, Kawhi Leonard, and DeJuan Blair be enough for us to get it done?

Leonard, Splitter and a first round pick for me, with its pick select Jeff Withey.
Teague/Williams
???/Jenkins
Leonard/
Horford/Scott
Splitter/Withey
Sounds good to me.
Draft picks: Porter, Goodwin ,Burke, McDoo, whoever is available. Resign Korver, sign some FA, Mayo and Delembert.
Teague/Burke/Williams
Mayo/Korver/Jenkins/Williams
Leonard/Korver/Porter
Horford/Scott/Ivan Johnson
Splitter/Dalembert/Withey
Balanced team, scoring, rebounding, defense, size, I like it, could play for conference finals.

When I saw the headline I thought "For Splitter and Leonard I would say yes. If we can get Blair added in for, say, Petro I would officially be in love. I have liked Splitter for a while and Leonard gives us a legit 3. Korver/Harris can man the 2. But with Splitters occasional foul trouble I would love Blair off the bench ad well. I am pretty sure the Spurs are trying to give him away.

Won't happen.
At best we would get Tiago + Jax +1st for Smoothe + Tolliver and maybe a 2nd
Splitter- Zaza- Petro
Horford- Johnson- Scott
Korver- Jax- Stevenson
Harris- Jenkins- Morrow
Teague- Pargo- Harris

There wouldn't even be a discussion if that is the offer. You would basically be trading Josh Smith for their backup PF. There is no way they could hope to get Josh without Leonard being involved. And again, San Antonio has been looking to move Blair for over a season now.

Re: We might possibly foist Josh Smith to the Spurs?
I would be hesitant to trade Josh to San Antonio. At all.
1. There's a good chance he'd spend the next 5 years winning mulitiple championships making us all sick to our stomachs every June.
2. I have doubts that players like Kawhi and Tiago can have the same type of production away from Poppovich.

^ no surprise to me and alot of true Hawks fans about SAS, their is a reason why the best team in the NBA, and one of the greatest franchises of all time wants Smoove. Real Hawks fans can see that he is a 6'9 Jason Kidd, a game changing defensive player, elite and willing passer, and one of the highest basketball IQs in the NBA, but with a below average jump shot. Josh takes alot of blame even though he plays at a high and smart level every night, because the organization and Atlanta fans don't give him the support he needs.
Josh is a max player, especially if he is allowed by the organization and fans to grow and play his game, but alot of things are out of my control, I wouldn't accept any Spurs trade, but if a Kawhi and Smoove trade did happen, i wouldn't be upset either.
Kawhi is only averaging 10ppg right now, but i believe he could end up becoming a very good player, close to the same level Josh has played the last few years. and the thing that a Kawhi trade makes more palatable to me is that he is still on his rookie contract, and will still give Ferry the most cap in the NBA to play around with this summer and still have corner stones in Horford, Teague, and Kawhi to build around.

LOL at Josh being a 6'9 Jason Kidd, or having 'one of the highest basketball IQs in the NBA.' Because high basketball IQ = taking long 2pt jumpshots at a high frequency despite being horrid at them, right?
Leonard and Splitter probably WON'T be as good away from Pops as they would be with, but even then they've both proved they have the potential to stick around in the league for a long time as meaningful contributors.

Re: We might possibly foist Josh Smith to the Spurs?
Yeah, tcorbin. Josh has been in the league a while now and knows how to play like a vet, but I would still struggle say that he has a high basketball IQ. He has never been able to pass like Kidd and certainly doesn't have the handles. In fact, his handle is possibly worse than his outside shooting. Kidd can at least consistently his a 3. Josh has a tweener mentality, which makes his physical tweenerness that much more a problem. It would be great if he was a better shooter/handler of the ball, then he might truly be the ultimate tweener and worthy of a max deal.
If we made that deal with SAS, I would be ecstatic! I don't know that either player is truly in Josh's caliber, but we have desperately needed a SF and one can also use more bigs. Both would be solid contributors. I still think we need a star to truly change this team's prospects, but this could be a nice addition-by-subtraction deal.

I feel number 1 is legit. I don't think I would get sick to my stomach, but they would legit be monsters.
Also, say what you want about me, you have never seen me call Josh a 6'9" Jason Kidd.

The concern I have is that San Antonio regularly turns other teams' trash into gold. They've done it for years:
Last year Boris Diaw was out of shape and unmotivated. Charlotte let him go for nothing. They paid him to go away because he was a drain on their last place team. He goes to San Antonio and becomes an integral part of their team.
Stephen Jackson last year was causing trouble on a disapponting Bucks team, clashing with their coach and dealing with injuries. He gets traded back to SAS and is rejuvenated. He agrees to come off the bench, has some big plays during SA's 10 game postseason winning streak.
So Josh would probably do well record wise with San Antonio. But it would likely be less about talent than skillset fit. He'd take fewer shots, NOT bring the ball up, never question Poppovich publicly. Have Hall of Famers in Duncan and Parker to calm, counsel, direct him. he'd have to sacrifice no longer being a #1 option avg 17 ppg and settle for being a #4 option around 10-11 ppg. And he'd never get a MAX deal from San Antonio. Ginobili, Parker and Duncan have each taken smaller deals to stay with the Spurs and keep the team competitive.
Could Josh agree to all of these things...maybe. But he's proven over the past decade that he can't (won't) do those things here.
Tiago isn't much of an upgrade over Zaza.
Kawhi isn't a #1 option type of player. We trade for these guys, Teague and Harris have to carry the offense pretty much every single play for the rest of the season.

Re: We might possibly foist Josh Smith to the Spurs?
Uh, Tiago Splitter is much better than Zaza. And I say this as a huge Zaza homer.

Plus, if we're trading away Josh and getting a C back, we can move Al down to the 4, start Splitter, and still have Zaza coming off the bench.
Kawhi isn't a #1 option type player, but neither is Al, or even Josh for that matter. He's pretty much the SF version of Al, a really nice, dependable, skilled player who knows his own limitations. I can live with guys like that on my team.

I don't know what those numbers mean. I will take your word for it.
But at 28, I don't think he has much upside left. I'm about production. And this guy has never produced at a high level. (He once topped out at 14 ppg in Euroleague. He never avg more than 6 rpg.)
I think I'd rather let Josh's deal expire and just use that extra money on a B-Level Free agent or two.

I agree with everything except the 4th option part. I think Smith would be a much bigger part of their offense than we think. Popovich is a no nonsense guy. I think it will start slow but 5 games in I think Josh will be a HUGE part of their offense as well as defense.
They are NOT giving us Leonard. That's their Ginobili replacement and I think he hit a game winner a couple games ago.

We give up Smith and 2 draft picks to get Cousins? Ignoring the "how is Cousins a upgrade in attitude and meshing with the coach over Smith" question, you don't think that's alot to give when you are the one trading arguably the best player in the deal?
