I believe CV will be amnestied almost without a doubt.
And, for someones idea that some other team would sign CV for $3mil and reduce the Pistons cap number is laughable. CV will get a minimum contract.

Then why amnesty him? The team already has enough money to spend in the Summer. That makes zero sense.

"You can never be too rich or too thin" I think the saying goes. Would you rather have
A) $24 mil in cap space with CV on your roster
B) $32 mil in cap space with CV gone
Those numbers may need to be tweeked, but the $8mil difference is correct. And I'm always going to choose B!

Cut one backup, gain two starters with $32 million to spend!!!

Re: Will we amnesty CV?
CV is having a very good season. He has a PER of 16.55 which ranks #23 among PFs (a very crowded position right now).
His rebounding has been average. He is putting up excellent defensive rebounding numbers, 19,9. That's better than Paul Millwap, David West and Serge Ibaka for example.
His TOs are pretty low the only thing he needs to improve is his TS, it's ~52% and should be better, Ryan Anderson (another stretch 4) has a TS% of 57,5.
His offensive rebound will never be good since he camp outside to hit those 3's, consequently his total rebound will be subpar as well.
I think CV and Will Bynum are putting up excellent numbers and they are impacting the game off the bench for us, I'd like to have them both back in our bench next season if possible.
If CV continues to put up this numbers, he should be extremely valuable at next season's deadline as a productive expiring who provides things every team need. 3 point shoot and defensive rebound.
So unless we have a very solid plan and we can get a better player than CV using his money, we should bring him back imo.

Re: Will we amnesty CV?
I really don't think any team out there no matter how desperate are willing to pay $8 mil for CV this or next year even at any trade deadline.
If that was the case, then Maxiel would be gone by now. Because, Max >>> CV while Max makes much less!!!
People are overrating CV. Sure, he looks good for a few minutes, but he is horrible most of the time and playing on a losing team.
Pistons would have to pay for someone to take them off their hands even right before next seasons trade deadline.

This. If we need to cap space we'll amnesty him. Otherwise, there's no reason to. I'm pretty sure that the strict cap minimum comes into play next year.

Re: Will we amnesty CV?
Would I like to amnesty CV? Of course! Having an additional $8 mil to spend is awesome... in theory. You can see that on here with all the off-season "plans"... the more money we have to spend the better the free agent we'll sign/acquire via trade
But in the real world things work a little differently. Having more cap space doesn't guarantee that we sign better free agents. We could arrive to the free agent party desperate and dateless and leave the same way!
There is also a minimum team salary that we have to meet... and you don't want to put the cart before the horse.
We'll draft whomever we draft (prefer an athletic wing)...then we'll see what we'll see in free agency. We have plenty of money to spend without using the amnesty on CV...
But the option is always there IF we need an additional $8 mil in cap room for a trade or a free agent.
IF we don't have to dump him we won't IMO... paying anyone $8 mil to GTFO is foolish, especially when they are going to expire soon enough.
So tl;dr = yes I'd prefer it... but we don't HAVE to... I'm hopeful though

Re: Will we amnesty CV?
I just don't see it. Despite the 8 million figure, I think he will be here next season. If we had to resign Monroe this offseason, I'd bet my house he was amnesitied. I just don't see it. I think the fact that DNP-CV plays so well next to Drummond helps his cause. Regards he will get at least 7 mill from us, I'd rather use it for one year of him than a second max player who isn't worth it.

I like how you think, but I'm not sure Gores is willing to swallow 8mill for capspace at this point. Maybe if we need it to get something done in the offseason. But I don't think he does it to get rid of CV.

Pistons could have enough money to sign Josh Smith and Chris Paul outright. Most likely, it would be other players. Not saying it would happen, but they could have enough money to sign both.
Imagine
CP
Knight/Stuck
Josh Smith
Monroe
Drummond
