Would you trade Maggette for Turkoglu and Orlando's #1?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Mon Feb 11, 2013 11:31 pm

So Maggette is expiring, Turkoglu had $12mil due him next year. Is eating into our cap space by $12mil worth another #1 pick that should be very high? Who says no to this?

Unprotected, ala Cleveland and LAC a few year ago? Positively.

Light protection, like our pick that went to Charlotte? Probably. But I'm not high on the 2013 free agents.

However, Orlando wouldn't do either - they need their lottery picks more than they need to save money.

I guess I agree, but that implies that a top 3 pick in the draft is worth at least $12mil? Seems expensive.

It depends. I think you can justify it based on the chance of getting a Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Blake Griffin, James Harden, or Derrick Rose. A third of the top 3 picks in the last frive drafts are, or look to be, all stars or better.

It's not my money, so it's easy for me to say to take the gamble. Although others might prefer a good player at high cost (OJ Mayo, Josh Smith, etc.) instead of a mediocre one (Turkoglu) and the chance to gamble for a great one.

i would definitely do it. i've always been a fan of Turk and i think he'd instantly become our best SF and expiring. combine both our picks and we could make a trade for a key player or move up pretty high in the draft

Sure why not, but remember any pick from 1-60 could become a bust in NBA...

we would. they wont. they need their picks more than cap space. build the youth and then worry about signing mid tier players. thats what we needed to be doing but now we need to try and fill out our roster in FAcy or trades.

Being down in Orlando, they would never do this. Because, Hedo can be bought out this summer and only cost $6 mil against the cap next year.

Besides. Magic will have a TOP 5 draft pick next year. You must be joking!

I'd do it but that's only because Turk would serve a purpose and be serviceable at the 3. It's not like we;d have him long. We'd trade him for cap space in before the break 2014. Orlando says no tho!!!

Without a doubt, yes. Orlando wouldn't. Hedo has a bad contract but he isn't a bad person that you don't want around your young guys.

Sounds like Turkoglu is doing some PEDs. I didn't even think the NBA even tested, or at least not effectively.

Why are ppl saying we would obviously do this, when Dumars has said his primary objective is to keep as much cap flexibility open as possible for trades?

He just traded away our own 1st round pick for $12 mil in cap space, so why would he then trade that cap space back for ORLs 1st round pick?

Unless he totally regrets the BG trade, but all signs point to him still being ecstatic about getting that capspace, and the future trades he's going to be allowed to make now because of it.

In other words, for Joe: Capspace >>>> draft picks

So no, the Pistons would obviously not do this deal. Especially now that Hedo is now scheduled to appear on the next Oprah with Lance Armstrong

Because a top 2 pick > 12 mil in capspace? In fact only half of Hedu's last year is guaranteed. So we could essentially buy a top 2 pick for 6 million

Raps fan here following Calderon's progress in Detroit. When I saw Turk's name I just had to get my 2 cents in, as he was on our team and we signed him to that ridiculous contract.

I have to say getting Turk for a top 5 pick is NOT worth your time and effort especially in the 2013 Draft. Overall he was a huge negative influence in Toronto and had some major character issues. He was off with an 'injury' and spotted that night in a bar during one of our games (or right around that time).

Honestly Maggette is a far superior player and his expiring contract is worth much more to you guys than taking Turk on for a year longer. Turk's a system player at best and was highly overrated in his first tenure with Orlando

In closing, I'd like to leave this infamous Turk interview during our displeasure of having him on our team.
