Nobody wants to pay Routt. Lee brings special teams depth and he knows how to tackle, which is why Smith is gone. He had about five good quarters in Green Bay before they gave up on him.

Atlanta waived Ray Edwards, who people want to pay even less than they do Routt. He is strong evidence for the Lions letting both Avril and Hill go next spring, which they pretty much have to anyways because of some truly scary cap constraints. We could realistically be looking at 7 new defensive starters next year; the entire starting back seven (the ones who would start if healthy) all hits free agency and the Lions only have enough cap room to bring back maybe 3. Maybe. Going to be a very active and transient offseason.

Nope. He is garbage and a 3-4 backer anyways as I recall

Its going to interesting next season. Schwartz and mayhew both have their a* on the line and we're basically gettin a new Defensive unit. I wonder who's on the short list

Was reading a couple DFP articles and Its really disappointing to hear that stafford didn't do much of any work in the offseason. something i did not know, but now can see why he's struggled

Matheiu is entering the draft. Will he fall out of the first round considering his off the field issues, if he's there in the 2nd round do we take a shot?

He's nowhere near the first or the second round. He's maybe a third rounder, probably in the 4-5th round range. I'm willing to bet Ice backs me on that one.

He has a propensity for getting turnovers, no doubt, but his measurables aren't great, coverage was a bit shaky as I recall and the off-field issues are a major, major red flag. Character problem guys is something we probably don't need

Ray lewis is such a joke and so overly dramatic. one of the best LB'ers ever but also a sellout and part of a investigation in which all evidence points to his guilt. i'm sorry but i hate that he's succeeding

He will adapt to the NFL and make changes as needed. Gotta keep an open mind. He hired Pat Shurmur as his OC and Pat is as straight West Coast offense as it gets. They will have at least one new QB new year, probably two.

yeah, I guess you have to give them credit for having the kohonas to try it. im sure the first coach to call a forward pass play in the NFL probably got laughed at too.

Bradshaw just got dropped, think he might replace Best as our oft injured back on the roster?

I think Best needs to walk away with his head still intact.

Is Best still technically a Lion? We need to release him and make room for a rb that will actually help us on the field. I don't think we have the cap space to go after guys like Bush or Bradshaw. I expect us to take a speedster in one of the middle rounds of the draft -- like Barner (Oregon) or Gillespie (Florida).

A FA guy I like, who might be available for cheap, is Rashad Jennings.

Sidenote: I want to go after CB Sean Smith as well in free agency.

Dom restructured his deal -- so it looks like he'll be back for at least another season. Does this mean Backus is likely done here?

Does Dom restructuring his deal have a ripple down effect to where other player(s) are likely going to get cut?

Titus Young released by the Rams. Don't usually enjoy others misfortunes, but can't say I'm upset by this news

not arguing there. i love how they try to avoid saying what they really think about young .

Translated

We claimed Titus because we thought he could help this team move forward, after spending time with him, nearly 4 days, we realized, this n* crazy!

Rumors have it that Alex Smith will be heading to KC....eventually. Kind of bummed because I was hoping they'd fudge up their draft by taking a QB #1.

Yup, Smith going to KC. Andy Reid is too smart to take a QB this year that high, methinks he goes OT (Joeckel)
