Michael Jordan fearing his GOAT status from Lebron

Post#1 » by krikor » Sat Feb 16, 2013 10:22 am

Anyone listen to what the clown bulls legend said? 5 is better then 1, and he would take kobe over lebron just based on that argument.
He scored an own goal in himself, per his argument both robert horry and bill russell are better then him since they have more rings.
He is starting to lose it with words, he is fearing his status.

Sad comment from MJ.

He should take up baseball.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

^^ Agreed. Can't wait for people to stop listening to MJ like his opinion means anything.

This is how I felt... if you're going to use the RING argument, uuhh... MJ, you don't have the most rings in the NBA LOL.

i love lbj's response, true student of the game... "at the end of the day, rings don't always define someone's career. If that's the case, then i'd sit up here and say i'd take [bill] russell over jordan. but i wouldn't take russell over jordan. russell has 11 rings. jordan has six. or i'd take robert horry over kobe. I wouldn't do that. but it's your own personal opinion. rings doesn't define someones career, like i said last night i look at a guy like jud buechler who has multiple rings, charles barkley doesn'thave one ring, he's not better then charles barkley. patrick ewing is one of the greatest of all time. reggie miller is one of the greatest of all time. you know sometimes it's just the situation that you're in, the team that your'e in and it's about timing as well. i don't don't play the game and try to define who i am over what guys say or how they feel about me. it doesn't matter to me. i go out and i play for my family, my teammates, um i play for the coaching staff and i play for the fans and that's it."

I still don't get that logic when Kobe wasn't even the best player on 4 of his five championships. Shaq for three of them and Gasol definitely deserved Finals MVP over Kobe.

That's like making an argument that Pippen is also better than Lebron.

Jordan always big ups Kobe because he knows LeBron can be better than him (MJ) and doesnt want to give him that credit. The same way Kobe was running around a couple of years ago saying Brandon Roy was his toughest opponent, meanwhile Wade was lighting his ass up.

^ Amen. Of course Jordan is going to pick Kobe because Jordan comes up favorably every time in that comparison. Other than outside shooting, Jordan is statistically better in every way and Kobe can always be written off as an ersatz Jordan.

LBJ is a different story because he brings a different dimension to the game that Jordan didn't which leaves a small window open for LBJ surpassing Jordan as an overall player (he'll and nobody else either will never surpass Jordan's legacy because of what Jordan meant to the growth of the game and his iconic marketing stature, etc.) and Jordan is worried about that. You'll see this very same reaction from UNC fans on their boards because they worry about LBJ getting into the conversation because LBJ is a threat. Kobe is not a threat at all.

One thing that doesn't get talked about enough is the fact that Jordan played in a time where there was no zone defense and for most of his career, he played in an up-tempo league with a very high overall FG%, a high number of possessions per game, ppg., etc. Jordan's FG% gradually decreased as more emphasis was placed on defense, physicality ?look at how much stronger most players are now compared to most twigs in the mid and late '80s. Jordan never had to deal with zones either. The nonsense you hear about "but hand-checking was allowed then" is pure noise because all that hand-checking didn't do ANYTHING to keep scoring or FG% down. For anyone who doubts this, check out basketball-reference.com's documentation of the NBA seasons. For example, in 87-88, every team but one scored 100 ppg., and the team that plays at the fastest pace today, Houston, would rank 14th in pace in 87-88.

I just want Lebron to keep getting better. Especially his jumper and post moves. If he does that then sky's the limit. MJ has way more to worried about if Lebron keeps figuring this thing out, Lebron is so much different than MJ was, that its scary.. Best believe MJ knows Kobe won't ever surpass him. Lebron has a great chance to but he Has to keep winning...and i hope Lebron knows that end of the day people will look at rings (though I dont agree with that)

MJ knows lebron has come closer than anyone in history who might challenge his status as GOAT.

Right now I would take Kobe's career over Lebron any day of the week. Of course that Lebron can (and I think that he will) surpass Kobe and maybe Jordan, but right now ? C'mon ... 1/3 in the finals vs 5/7 ??? 81 points in a game, etc, etc ...

81 points verses a defensively challenged Toronto team? Taking every single shot because his teammates impotency?

LBJ can do just about that if he took every shot, but he won't because I'm going to say this in a simple way.

Lebron is a COMPLETE player. Complete players do more than just score, but if required I'll bet he can score just as much.
Right now you take Kobe's career, instead I'll take Shaq's with Wade's, which equals to the same amount of rings.
I guess you'll have to take Kobes, but also include Shaq who was the main reason for Kobe's first 3 chips.

MJ sees LBJ approaching in the distance, and he being scared is correct lol.

Kobe has played 7 more years than LeBron. He should have a more decorated career right now. Especially when factoring in that he played with prime-Shaq, who was the Lakers best player and most dominant force in the league during their three-peat.

But leading their own teams...

Kobe is 2-1 in the Finals.
LeBron is 1-2 in the Finals.

Kobe's 3 Finals appearances, leading his own team, came at age 29, 30, and 31.

LeBron's 3 Finals appearances, leading his own team, came at age 22, 26, and 27

Kobe's 3 appearances all came after age 28 at the peak of his prime.

LeBron's 3 appearances all came by age 27, the last with him just entering his prime.

I'll take LeBron's trajectory in a heartbeat.

Kobe came in the league in 1996, had a prime Shaq and Phil Jackson as his coach, along with Pau Gasol who was top 3 center at the time. He always had better opportunities to win until 2010. He has a great opportunity to win now and can't put it together. Lebrons legacy is now starting championship wise
