SHOULD KOBE BE MVP IF LAKERS COMPLETE THEIR TURN AROUND?

Post#1 » by my2bits » Mon Feb 18, 2013 1:37 pm

Lebron's been great. So has Durant. CP3 too. So has Kobe. Of all the players in the mvp conversation no one has shouldered more adversity than the Mamba. The Heat, Thunder, Clips and Spurs (Parker) have been mostly injury free, have had continuity both on their rosters and on their coaching staff. At the ripe old age of 34 Bryant has been asked to do it all this year. From #1 option on offense to key defender on defense to emotional leader to #1 facilitator. The results have been mixed but he has played very well this year and never shied away from the challenge. If they make the playoffs, i, for one say that is a much more difficult and impressive achievement than leading a healthier, more stable and younger, more balanced team to 50 or 60 wins. What do you think?

on paper, the lakers should be a 60+ win team.

kobe would have worse stats, on an arguably better team...

unless the lakers go 29-0, there's no snowball's chance in hell he's winning MVP

LeBron's been too good for anybody else to win MVP this year regardless of what Kobe does the rest of the way.

Besides the key to us making the playoffs isn't Kobe it's Dwight. The guy just hasn't been able to play good enough for us to win at the rate we need to win the rest of the way. I don't blame him for that as I feel he wants nothing more than to pick the team up, put it on his back, and carry it to a championship but right now he just isn't physically capable of doing more than he's doing. (Some will disagree with me on that point and that's fine but it makes no sense for him to be out there no giving his best) Ya he's still goofy but I don' begrudge him for that.

Also, even if we miraculously make the playoffs we'll never go anywhere unless we get back a fully capable Pau Gasol!

Just wy too many stinking injuries this year for us to get any sort of rhythm or continuity.
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!! :D

I agree that Kobe doesn't have a chance of winning the MVP but saying he is on a better team? No. Let's see -- Dwight who's not 100% and missed a couple of games. Nash missed a couple of games. Pau being out until April. Jordan Hill. Steve Blake. This team will be the worst team in the league if you take Kobe out.

Kobe did not win the MVP on his statistically best season in 2005-06 when he carried a bag of horrible players to within sight of 50 wins. I highly doubt he will have a chance anymore. He was robbed off some in his absolute prime.

Yeah, if we go undefeated rest of the way and Kobe puts up something like 27, 9 and 7 on 50% FG. So it's pretty much as likely as camel going through the eye of a needle.

I'd rather have Kobe be Finals MVP.

Isnt this about the 100th thread about this topic? If you havent figured it out by now its no other sacrificing Kobe, Gasol or even Nash can do anymore for this team to turn it around. It all rides on Dwight Howard defense and rebounding. Simple as that

I think I saw on TV this one time that Lebron is having a decent season.

doubt it, unless the Lakers end up with one of the top two records in the league.

You're not going to get a lot of sympathy from people for a team that acquired one of the greatest point guards ever (Nash) and the best current center (Howard) during the off season. Fans of the team might feel bad for Bryant, but you have to be able to step outside of those shoes to see how everyone else feels.

I don't see Kobe winning MVP unless we go on a serious run and he puts up insane numbers like he did in 2006.

With all due respect to your title, in order to "complete their turnaround", they have to START a turnaround.
Although they seem to be playing better and winning a little more, this team completely lacks an identity on offense and defense.
I just have not seen the type of turnaround it takes to be a serious playoff contender

If he plays out of his mind and they go on a 20 game win streak....
