Josh Smith to the Celtics?

Post#1 » by RondoFantatic » Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:52 pm

Celtics would move Jeff Green and Brandon Bass to ATL for Smoove.

Would you Atlanta fans be fine with this move?

Yeah, if we own the Celtics draft picks for the next 5 years.

Awful trade for us, Bass has been awful this season and Green has been a role player

A trade that does absolutely nothing for Atlanta. There is no incentive for Atlanta to take on Green's contract and Bass doesn't give Atlanta the center they need.

What's with the recent development of fans coming here from other boards to offer terrible trades for Josh Smith? This is less than what was offered (and refused) in June, namely Bass,Green, Melo and a 1st.

Agreed its not the best trade. But, as fans of the Hawks, it would be interesting to know your predictions of what the Hawks do with Josh? We only know what we hear in the rumor world, but y'all are more closer to the situation ...

- Trade him for a lesser package and some picks
- Let him walk this summer
- Offer him a max, or close to max this summer
- End up getting quality players in return for him before the deadline

Depends on the picks.

Edug27 wrote:- Let him walk this summer

Possible. We'd have enough money for 2 max deals.

Edug27 wrote:- Offer him a max, or close to max this summer

Depends on who he can talk into joining him here.

Have you looked at the (long) list of teams interested in him?

The 2nd point is the one outsiders should consider when they're tempted to say, "Take this trash or lose him for nothing." Our choice may very well end up being taking your trash or signing a max FA. What would YOU do?

I don't see anything Boston could offer us that helps us. Everything just locks us into a lesser state than we are not but bad enough to get a really nice lottery pick. That's a lose-lose trade for us.

Well put. Ferry went through this in Cleveland .. although this time around to a lesser extent, so I assume he is prepared to handle this. At this point, Atlanta should be well aware whether they will give Josh top money this summer ... or let him go. If they choose to sign him, then I totally get playing this season out, and start the bidding wars in a couple months.

But if they don't have any intention in making Josh a wealthy man, I think it would be smart to at least get some picks out of it. You can move Josh for an expiring contract and get a draft pick ...

For example ...

Boston gets Josh
Hawks get expiring, Boston and Bucks pick
Bucks get Jeff Green, Fab Melo, fillers

Just an idea.

This deal sucks. That's all. Much rather capspace.

I don't think you saw the part where we got 2 firsts and EXPIRINGS.

I wouldn't mind seeing what a 3rd team would give us for whatever package Boston sends out.

A mid first and a late first isn't attractive at all. Those are role player slots. On top of that, the deal doesn't come close to passing trade machine financially.

This would only be a scenario if Atlanta does not want to offer Josh a contract this summer and can not get a comparable package for Josh in a trade ... So its ...

- take 2 mid round picks (Boston and Bucks both currently would be in the 15-17 draft slots) and head into the offseason with cap space ...

- or not make a move and head into the offseason with cap space

I was just saying if he is leaving, 2 firsts isn't bad to have in a deal.

Nothing from Boston is any good man. No.

Boston - cut
Houston - cut
Brooklyn - cut
Milwaukee - still in it
Phoenix - still in it
Charlotte - 2013 1st or cut.

we'll see

your also assuming that alot of those teams arent scared off by josh smith not willing to play in those places and resign, i doubt he would be a happy camper being traded to Charlotte and Milwaukee

The Boston Celtics are active on several trade fronts including talks with the Atlanta Hawks on Josh Smith.

The Hawks are very motivated sellers in regards to Smith, who is an unrestricted free agent. The Hawks are unlikely to re-sign Smith this offseason.

Marc Stein reports that the Celtics would almost certainly need to send Paul Pierce to the Hawks for Smith.

I'd be okay with renting Pierce for a while.

It seems like the best we're gonna get at this point. (We should have traded Josh last year.....)

+1000

in addition, GMs are starting to become more fiscally responsible, and i think Josh will find out this summer that he won't be able to get a max deal because most of the teams with cap space won't be interested in Josh, because he is not a good signing for a rebuilding team.

2013/14 Cap Space
1. Atlanta $41,516,200
2. Utah $34,303,191
3. LA Clippers $31,116,912
4. Cleveland $27,405,880
5. New Orleans $25,042,668
6. Detroit $24,827,280
7. Houston $20,260,527
8. Milwaukee $19,983,669
9. Charlotte $19,579,673
