would that work? would the pistons need substantially more? is there bad 4M dollar per year contract we could eat for you as well?


Also, did ben gordon burn his bridges with you guys? if not, you could have gordon instead of humphries in a 3 team trade where the bobcats get hump in additon to the picks/euro from the nets
getting a third team to give us an expiring for hump seems like our only chance to get josh smith. and it looks like magette is one of few that might be attainable

I think the Pistons would want Marshon Brooks in the deal with a pick at minimum. I could see Detroit being a third team in a Josh Smith to New Jersey deal. I don't think offering picks that far down the road interests Detroit. Another key factor is that Detroit by dowing said deal goes over the luxuary which is another no go. If Detroit did something like this:

F Kris Humpries (DNP CV can be amnesitied to make it work at seasons end)
G MarShon Brooks
2013 First Round Pick
Rights to ilan karaman

Brooklyn Gets:
F Corey Maggette

Well it cost a lotto protected first to unload Ben Gordon. If they offereed Detroit Brooks, Humpries, Reggie Evans, Shenglia 3 mill cash, and multiple second rounders for Maggette, Middleton, and took DNP-CV's deal back. I think it might help Detroit out some.

Maggette's value to Detroit is to be able to be a significant player in free agency this summer. That means being able to make huge offers to OJ Mayo and/or Iggy. So why would Detroit rather have a player who wouldn't even start take away all the cap space? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

The only player on the Nets roster that might be useful would be Brooks, but there is no way to bridge the salary gap. This is DOA.

Instead of Magette, how about Max (expiring) and Stuckey (partial guarenteed) for Humphries + Brooks (or picks).

I doubt we will pay Stuckey 4M to clear space, so this wouldn't drastically change our ability to pursue free agents. Humphries contract looks bad know but we are going to need a big and it could be valuable next year, especially if he steps his game up.
