Den reportedly rejected Roy + 1st for Mozgov. We are reportedly shopping Hendo for a 1st.

Suppose we could offer MIN Hendo + RWilliams for Roy + 1st?

Id do it if Roys contract isn't guaranteed for next season. Not sure if it is or isn't.

Non-guranteed. And that pick might be top 12?

Id do that deal in a heartbeat then.

regarding the henderson speculation... looking to trade hendo for a 1st round pick is the smart move. he will be a RFA this summer.

1) we lose him for nothing this summer because a team offers him a deal we are unwilling to match
2) we match a deal for him this summer
3) we sign him to his offer sheet and he plays the next year before becoming an unrestricted free agent where:
a) we lose him for nothing
b) we sign him to a long term deal

in all scenarios we either lose hendo for nothing or we have to eventually sign him to a long term deal. i think both of those scenarios are losing scenarios for the bobcats. of course we can wait and try to trade him next year at the deadline after we sign him to an offer sheet, but his value probably isnt going to go up in that scenario, especially if we draft mclemore or bazz and hendo is coming off the bench (also getting less minutes as small forward as MKG and taylor improve).

Terrance Jones. I think he could be good, but both of those picks are probably lottery picks. I feel like Charlotte could get someone like him that way.

I would like to see Charlotte trade Ben Gordon for anything reasonable, and get a 1st for Henderson. Even if it means we have to bring in a free agent to start at the 2 guard spot.

I would love terrance jones but no way a trade a first rounder for him. that kid has done nothing in this league outside of beast in the d league.

salaries of players comparable to hendo who are no longer on rookie deals

courtney lee 5.0-5.5mil per
travis outlaw 4.0 per
nick young 6.0 per
jason richardson 5.8-6.6 per
dorrell wright 4.0 per
landry fields 5.0-8.5 per
demarr derozan 9.5 per
richard hamilton 5.0 per
rodney stuckey 8.5per
gerald green 3.5 per
anthony morrow 4.0 per
kyle korver 5.0 per
mike miller 5.8-6.6 per
jj redick 6.0 per
arron afflalo 7.5 per
trevor ariza 7.2-7.7 per
danny green 3.5-4.0 per
wilson chandler 5.9-7.1 per
corey brewer 3.2 per
brandon roy 5.1-5.2 per
wesley matthews 6.5-7.2 per
kevin martin 12.0 per
thabo sefolosha 3.9 per
brandon rush 4.0 per
jamal crawford 5.0-5.6 per
jodie meeks 1.4-1.5 per
jared dudley 4.2 per
josh childress 6.5-7.3 per
shannon brown 3.5 per
marcus thornton 7.6-8.6

this illustrates just how many average shooting guards there are in the league. we could plug in just about anyone on this list for hendo and it probably wouldnt affect out net win/loss by more than a few games in either direction (with exceptions to roy and maybe childress on the bad side and derozan and crawford on the good side). there are 30 guys on this list and that doesnt even include the average shooting guards on rookie deals or guys like alan anderson who are playing for pennies comparatively.

why would you tie up 5, 6, maybe 7 million per season over 4 or 5 years for an average shooting guard who can easily be replaced any summer by 30+ guys, many of which can be signed for much less, drafted in the late 1st and 2nd round or plucked out of the d-league or europe.

hendo is a great guy, likeable, easy to root for, but he doesnt make a difference on this team most nights. if we can get a 1st round pick for him, do it. if we cant trade him this deadline, do not offer him more than 4 mil per season when he eventually becomes a free agent.

it also bothers me that hendo is so inconsistent and has a pattern of playing well when he goes up against elite teams like lakers and heat (or when his name is in trade talks), but then coasts or is invisible during many games against the non-glamour teams.

That.

Also it is worth to point out a value we would be getting back for Henderson is not just the first round pick but also cap space equal to difference between his new contract and rookie level contract, a valuable asset in environment where more and more teams will try to avoid repeating offender tax in upcoming years. The cap space is not a big deal next offseason (2014) but as Henderson is going to get multi-year deal (most probably, unlike Augustin) it may come handy in fuurther seasons (not that much because of FAs but as providing flexibility).

I wonder if Minnesota would do that for Mullens instead?

I think charlotte should watch the JJ Hickson situation.

I wouldn't trade Mullens to get Mosgov. Especially if I had to include a 1st. I don't get the facisnication with him. I see Scot Pollard 2.0.

Supposedly Boston is shopping Fab Melo for "backcourt depth". I would do that, but the only one that would make sense is Reggie Williams. I can't see Boston wanting to do that.

While I would welcome getting JJ Hickson here, I would not give up a 1st round pick to aquire him. Better to pursue him in the offseason.

On NBA.com, they are discussing a multitude of possible players that could be involved in deals http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/02/20/morning-shootaround-feb-20/#hornets. I found this interesting relative to Maresse Speights, a guy I think could really help our 5 spot:

Contract may put Cavs’ Speights back on block — Big man Mareese Speights was involved in the first trade of the 2012-13 season, going from Memphis to Cleveland as the Grizz cut salary for their future. After 10 games and scoring 130 points with the Cavs this season, Speights may be on the trading block again because of his contract. He has a player option on his contract for 2013-14 and the Cavs, like many teams around the league, are wary of their salary cap situation with the new luxury tax penalties looming. Although Cleveland is nowhere near the tax line for next season, getting Speights’ $4.5 million salary off the books might not hurt the long-term rebuild plan. The News-Herald’s Bob Finnan has more on Speights:

The 6-foot-10, 255-pound Speights came to the Cavs on Jan. 22 along with guards Wayne Ellington and Josh Selby and a first-round pick in exchange for forward Jon Leuer. Speights has fit in well with the Cavs (16-37) as their backup center. He has a player’s option on his 2013-14 contract and is expected to become a free agent. That’s why the Cavs might entertain thoughts of trading him. It’s similar to the Ramon Sessions situation last season. He had a player’s option on his deal and the Cavs traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers last February.

“It’s out of my control,” Speights said. “It’s up to the front office. Whatever they do on Thursday, we’ll see what happens.” Speights is earning $4.2 million this season. If he decides to stay with the Cavs, he’ll be owed $4.5 million next season. He might seek a multiyear deal.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine/?tradeId=a33u8raWith Portland's pick going to Houston.

No to JJ Hickson, let's get him in FA this summer.
No to Mozgov. That guy is a magnet to getting dunked on.

What a boring trade deadline thus far. I wish someone would just start throwing names around false or not.
