Should we keep O'Neal?

Post#1 » by Sunsaholic » Thu Feb 21, 2013 5:26 am

I think he has several years left of being a good center. He has shown that he can be very effective with the ball in the low post and can score when needed. If we plan on not tanking next year, I think he would be a great player to have whether Gortat is here or not.

If we plan on putting the best possible team on the floor next year, we could trade Gortat as well as other assets to build the team and I think Oneal would still be very good as the starting center.

Thoughts?

I'd love to have him next year with our young players, but seems highly unlikely. He's another Suns medical staff miracle. I doubt he would get the same numbers he's been getting lately on other team.

We should trade him only if a good deal comes along (either 1st rd pick or good young prospect/player) otherwise just keep him.

Suns need a backup anyway and he's likely to start playing like crap if he goes with different med staff anyway.

I agree with the medical staff thoughts, but keep in mind that when teams are trading for him they will not take that into consideration.

just please dont outright cut him I say:
"The Phoenix Suns need to create a roster space to absorb Marcus Morris, which could become Jermaine O'Neal.

The Suns have been trying to deal O'Neal, but a buyout is more likely.

The New York Knicks are believed to be interested in O'Neal."

buyout Telfair ?

We should trade him. And he wont be here next year, whether we trade him away or not. He only signed here because no one else would offer him a contract. He will sign somewhere else next season now that he has upped his market.

His value is booming. There is not a better time to trade him. Don't fall for a few good games Lance.

Trade him while his value is high. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to be on a bottom feeder team anyway.

He's vastly outplaying Gortat right now. 17 and 8 in 22 minutes today? Absolute keeper.

O'Neal is not a keeper because he wont resign here next year. Unless he falls apart in the 2nd half the guy has boosted his value a lot, and he has not hidden the fact that he'd like to be on a contender. He is in the twilight of his career, we surely wont offer him big money. The dude is going to go ring chasing somewhere.

He will NOT be a Sun next year regardless, so we might as well trade him while we can get something (anything) for him.

We should trade him now. He won't ever have a higher value than right now. At least get a second rounder.

John Gambadoro ‏@Gambo620
Suns will have to release someone to make room for Marcus Morris and it will not be Jermaine ONeal. ONeal wants to stay with Suns.

HOORAY
