Henny isn't even close to Pimp level yet. Actually, I am not impressed with any of his deals today. But, JJ was a mid round pick and Harris was 19th pick, so it was more of a lateral move.
Personally, I don't think the deal was worth JJ, but it could have been worse. I am not sold on Henny yet . . .
He hasn't traded your boy Big Baby yet, so that's gotta count for somethin in the Mofo household.

So do we just wait a few years for Harris to develop into Hark's backup? And for Lamb to become as good as Moore?

Why did we trade for Warrick? He couldn't even get minutes on the Bobcats!!
Dissapointed if we didn't get a second rounder.

I don't think you can base the value of the trade on where JJ was drafted compared to where Harris was drafted because JJ is expiring so teams are discounting JJ's value because he may not resign with them.

Eh, I guess I'll give Harris a chance before condemning him... Henny saw something in Nicholson and Vuc, so I have to trust he sees something in Harris.

thoughts?
I think it was about extending possible salary cap room till next year. Don't think Henny wanted room this year and this just gives us a player we can use next year that expires next year
interesting. thanks.

I'll admit I know almost nothing about Harris in the NBA (saw him play in college a little bit). But where does he fit into the team's plan? Are him and Harkless supposed to battle it out for the starting SF spot?

So for now....for next year we have:
Jameer/Moore
AA/Lamb
Harkless/Harris
BBD/Nicholson
Vuc/Oquinn
(assuming we buy Turk out or trade him in summer). Wouldn't be shocked at all to see BBD moved this summer as well. Prob keep Harrington for one more year and then cut him summer 2014. Seems like we are def def LOADING up on capspace summer 2014. I mean, more than likely we are going to have Afflalo and a bunch of guys on rookie deals. We might honestly have like $45-50 million in caproom that summer.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt.LI "Trade Deadline" Edit
Magic were simply not going to pay two shooting guards and no one wanted to pay a good first for Redick given how he could be just a rental.
Harris and Lamb are potential prospects and Beno can help out at the point for the rest of the year. He might try to get a buyout so he can go to a contender but we will see.

Let's face it...
If Tobias Harris doesn't pan out, we got absolutely hosed today.
Way to win over the faithful Hennigan...

srs question.... what are the Magic going to be able to REALISTICALLY accomplish with that all cap space? Yes they can pay people but honestly who do you think they can attract in free agency?

I loathed Tobias Harris and Doron Lamb when they were at Tennessee and Kentucky. They can play.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt.LI "Trade Deadline" Edit
TOBIAS HARRIS:
NBA Comparison: Kris Humphries/Glen Rice
Strengths: Tobias is a talented, combo forward with a skill-set suited for NBA play ... Has good versatility and a great feel for the game ... His ability to handle the ball makes him a tough match-up for opposing bigs, however he'll need to develop a consistent outside stroke to make him more of a threat off the dribble ... He uses a combination of strength and agility to either overpower or elude his defender ... He has broad shoulders solid upperbody with plenty of room to fill out ... Harris has the ability to put the ball on the floor, with a deceivingly quick first step that creates mismatch problems at the high post ... Shows timely slashing across the middle, where he can catch and score in the paint with either hand ... He has an excellent touch and feel around the basket, finding ways to convert on floaters and runners in the lane... Positions his body effectively for easy opportunities in the low post ... Solid leaper ... His long arms and upper-body strength should help him on the defensive side of the ball moving forward ... Has a lot of potential being one of the youngest players in the entire draft. Unlike many freshmen, he's an 18 year old ... A bright kid. A gymrat who works hard on his game and shows a mature "professional" mindset ...
Weaknesses: At 6'8, he's slightly undersized at the power forward position, and lacks the athleticism, explosiveness and foot speed to guard most NBA small forwards ... He also lacks a refined post game, missing a go-to back to the basket move - relies too much on his pure feel for the basket ... Inconsistent spot up shooter without threatening range. Shows good form but did not shoot with very good numbers ... Pull-up or step-back jumper not currently in his repertoire ... Lack of great footspeed inhibits his ability to attack the rim off the dribble despite having quality ball handling ability ... Body appears a little pudgy. He needs to shed the babyfat and tone his body some ...
Overall: Harris averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds in his freshman year on a disfunctional Tennessee team, proving to be one of the more versatile players in the country at just 18 years old ... His consistency and high basketball IQ at such a young age is an attractive quality to General Managers, and he managed to score in double figures in all but three games as a freshman ...

While that may be the motiviation, isn't there a minimum cap number we have to stay above?
