Any interest?

What the Mavericks do with Dirk will be interesting. If they fail to get Howard, it may be something to watch.

I wonder if LMA is in the same boat. Would prefer him over Love for this team.

I wonder if the hawks would've taken whoever we wouldve drafted at #6 for smith

It's ok, Gerald Wallace will make his next layup, swearsies

That's actually what Vince said in one of his rants immediately following learning about the trade.

Top tier: Love, Aldridge, Horford

2nd Tier: Anderson, Nene, IIyasova.

Obviously top tier players are the one's we'd target. If Smith walks in free agency Horford isn't going to be a happy man sticking around in ATL on a complete rebuild. Those are just off the top of my head though.

Another note, if Jermaine O'Neil gets cut like rumors suggest, he'd be a great pickup to play backup center for us and move Blatche to start as PF for the rest of the season.

Uh... no.

The Knicks got a bargain on Carmelo because they had all the leverage. Carmelo was becoming a free agent. He indicated he wanted to go to NYC. The Knicks had the cap room to sign him. That resulted in the Nuggets being forced to deal him rather than lose him to NYK for nothing.

The Nets have no cap room in the foreseeable future. They have absolutely no leverage whatsoever. They will not get a star player for scraps if they have no leverage. The best they can get for Hump's expiring contract will be an overpaid veteran who has zero trade value. (i.e. if that veteran had positive trade value, then his team would've been able to trade him for more than just an expiring).

Look around the NBA. See how many overpaid players have long term contracts at $12 million salaries. The ones who are considered amnesty candidates. Those are precisely the kind of players the Nets can expect to receive in exchange for Humph next season. They're certainly not going to get a Carmelo out of Humph.

The only way the Nets can get a "star" player is if one of their young prospects develops into a legitimate asset. But then again... if MarShon or Teletovic become stars, why would the Nets even trade them away at all?

I thought about that .

Problem is they needed Wallace to give dwill some good gives on the çourt before the summer. And the thunder weren't going to make a move until after the finals.

I think like morrow, #6(or higher, didn't wallace help us jump up a little?) is better than Martin, lamb, and a future pick in the teens.

So we invested a #3 pick(favors)a #3 pick (kanter), the warriors pick, the blazers pick(lillard(ROY)), $40M of gerald Wallace and $100M into deron Williams

**** what'd the clippers give up for cp3? Gordon, aminu, and the Austin rivers pick?

So pissed we didnt make a trade, even a minor one. there are so many minor trades that could have helped us short term in a big way. i mean:

- We STILL have no backup SG
- We STILL have a logjam at PF
- We STILL have the worst defense of any playoff team
- We STILL dont have a 3 point specialist
- We STILL dont have any second round picks movign forward
- We STILL have little at backup wing, and an injury to wallace would leave us very bare

The Ben Gordon trade would have cured 2-3 of those issues, wouldnt require an asset, and we retain a large expiring. how do you not do that?

Crawford was had for a second rounder, we could have given them brooks and probably gotten 2 second rounders or maybe a second and a reserve SG/Wing.

I'm fine we didint get smith, we simply didnt have the assets. but nto filling any of our MAJOR areas of need, even with a minor deal is just a poor job. We are not getting out of the first round with this team.

Problem is that there won't be a Josh Smith or Paul Millsap next year.

The KG+Pierce trade that was thrown around here seems a lot more possible next year, with Humphries being a true expiring, and then a bunch of young mid-level assets. Look at Boston this year, and then imagine them a year older, with a Rondo recovering from ACL surgery. I definitely think they try to move both of them next deadline. They quite possibly can't with KG, because of the no-trade clause, but I think it's pretty much a lock that unless Pierce retires, or gets bought out, he's being traded next year.

celtics wont trade pierce to us next year for brooks+pick because pierce as a 15M expiring is very valuable and would get them alot more from smoeone else.

with 2+ years on those guys deals, and them being all-stars and young, teams woudl give them legit talent back. Also, the hawks dont need cap room now that smith is expiring. they need talent. wolves dont need more picks either, they need vets.

N Ireland Nets wrote:Not to mention we now will make a 1st round selection who could be a good asset moving forward. Shengelia might turn into a good player next season, Taylor as well. A lot of things can happen now but we're going to have more assets next season than we had this season.

great, we get to make a late selection in one of the weakest drafts in the past 15 years. Taylor and Shengelia arent going to get any playing time. even if they have what it takes to get better ti wont happen here or get showcased here. That first round pick is pretty worthless, we would be wise to trade it for a future protected first rounder and a future second rounder if we can.
Also don't dismiss how valuable Hump now is to teams with the new lux tax kicking in. 1st round picks due to being on cheap contracts have real value and with us being willing to take on bad contracts to get the right player, we're one of the only teams not making cuts due to the tax.

We're in a very good position going forward.

Humps contract will be more valuable. the issue is next year their arent any good expiring bigs like smith/milsap to use his value on.

At next years deadline Love would be in exactly the same position as Utah were with Williams when they traded him. Love would have 1 & a bit years left on his deal and nobody is giving up loads of top assets for a season and a bit rental, its too risky.

So it would need to be a team he would re-sign with and I'm not saying we'd get him at all but we'd have a chance at least. Love has a player option in his final year which he isn't taking, he's gone the year before that. It's not as outlandish as many people believe for Love to end up with us even though it would take quite a few things to go in our favor.
