Harris and Harkless are more different from each other than Afflalo and Redick. Harris is more of a combo 3/4, but Harkless is only a 3. Harris has some more offensive skill than Harkless, but isn't as good a defender. All that to say, Harris and Harkless can potentially compliment each other.
However, you want to sell high, so if its best for the team to trade a redundant player for a player who fills a need, then that's what you should do. The NBA's CBA just isn't set up for keeping your whole team for a long period of time.
I think trading JJ was the right thing to do because the Magic were going to lose value by not trading him and by not signing him. We'll have to wait, like we have to do with all trades, to see if Rob picked the right players to get in return.
