The Mavs got Anthony Morrow and all they had to part with was Dahntay Jones. I like Redick but the asking price the Bucks paid which no other team in the league was willing to surrender was too steep in my opinion. The Morrow trade shows there were other options available that would have cost less and still put the short-term thinking Bucks in line to accomplish their primary goal for this season.
Yeah, even if they were just interested in eeking into the playoffs by acquiring a win now player of Redick's level, they didn't need to invest that much of the future to achieve it.
The theory that they had a deal on the table for Smith + Redick, the Hawks backed out last minute, and the Bucks panicked that they weren't going to fulfill any immediate needs, so they pulled the trigger on just about the same deal for just Redick anyways, makes plenty of sense. Rentals of Smith and Redick shouldn't have cost much more than that. And last season they panicked by taking Monta Ellis instead of Curry because Steph got injured.
This was the year I actually endorsed a win now for the team with how bad the draft was and the way Larry has been playing. But they should have gotten more influential win now players, for that package or less. I'd have maybe taken a chance that Gasol returns in time for the playoffs and given up Ellis and this year's 1st for him. Lamb + Udoh for Redick. And b.s. like that.
