What for? so he can go off and make more money? If he can find a team that wants him he'll have to agree to a buy out.

I think the Jazz will want the roster spot.

I think the Jazz were wise in keeping his contract to use it in a trade, and I really believe that had Gasol stayed healthy that we would have used Raja Bell in that deal. That being said if LA is the team that has interest in him, my thought is that the Jazz only waive/buy him out if he forgoes some salary and saves the Jazz some money because why would you help the Lakers try to catch you in the playoff race. (Not that Raja helps them a ton, but perhaps D'Antoni can utilize his 3 pt shooting and attitude and toughness).

If Bell won't agree to a reduced buyout, hold him until Mar 1 so he can't be on a playoff roster. Since his main suitor is the Lakers I wouldn't want to help them even a little bit.

But then whomever the Jazz might want to sign can't be on their playoff roster either.

We need to weigh the benefit of a signing. I think we have the players that the coach will play right now, so we can move to our first round sweep (by whomever).

Let Bell walk now. Hes a terrible player and if the Lakers or someone else wants him he simply makes that team worse bc he completely sucks.
Play with the Pass, Play with a Purpose, and Play with Pace along with Obvious Unselfishness....Coach Snyder says the sky is purple than Jazz players say nice purple sky! LONG LIVE THE MAD SCIENTIST!!!!

Oddly, the Magic traded Josh McRoberts (expiring $3.1M) for Charlotte's Hakim Warrick ($4M, NG next year), and have indicated that they will buy him out. Could have been Raja instead??

How bad was his defense in 2011-2012? Is he still at least decent in that category or is he a liability against most SG/SFs?

L.A. is looking for nothing more than someone that can play average to above average defense and hit some 3s when Metta World Peace decides he's Metta World James.

The latest off of twitter:
Shams Charania: Raja Bell and Jazz have a buyout settlement in place, but it rests on Bell's ability to find a contract elsewhere. So far, still no takers. Twitter @ShamsCharania

Shams Charania: Bell's agent, Herb Rudoy, continues to talk to several teams. Bottom line, as it's been for months, is no team has stepped up to commit yet. Twitter @ShamsCharania

Raja will not give up any money through the buyout process unless he makes it up in his next contract. Unless the Jazz have a difference maker available who they want at the last minute, I bet they ride this out rather than waiving Bell and paying full price. No sense in making him available to your competition to play against you.

Have we all forgotten how Raja played for the Jazz? He's the perfect guy to make available to our competition.

He's like a trojan horse. Few coaches can resist his veteran savvy, his toughness and his occasional three-point make even as he's sabotaging their team.

his last year was not so bad, plus i don know what people were thinking when we sign him, that he will be total replacement for Wes and KK??? i dont think that any one was so dumb(except oconnor :) ) to believe in that, specially after all those injures he got in past. Still im saying leave Raja fire Corbin :P

just something i found:

For what it's worth, Raja Bell has been telling players and friends around the league that he'll join the Lakers. We'll see if it happens.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

pfff, get rid of bell, not for the roster spot (not needed) but to save some money. If Bell doesn't want to renounce to something, he'll skip tha last chance to play in the nba (and maybe overseas)

We can assume the Jazz have already paid him the majority of the $3.48M he's owed this year; depending on his pay schedule he may have already been paid 2/3 of that amount, meaning he's still owed $1.16M.

If he finds a team that wants him they'll likely sign him to a veteran's minimum deal. The minimum salary for a player with 10+ years experience is $1.35M this year. 1/3 of that (for the remaining games/months left) is $0.45M ($450k).

Assuming Raja doesn't want to leave any money on the table, he would only agree to a buyout that paid him $1.16M - $0.45M = $0.71M ($710k).

With all of these assumptions it seems like the most the Jazz could save by agreeing to a buyout with Raja is $450k, but they have no way of forcing him to accept that. The ball is in his court, so to speak.

I hope we keep him, if only to ruin the end of his career.

His salary is guaranteed so if you cut him you still pay full price. The only way they don't is if Raja agrees to a buyout--which he will only do if another team is willing to sign him to make up the difference. After March 1 Raja is not eligible to play in the playoffs if he is released and then signed by another team.

Simple, if he doesn't agree to a buyout then he can't sign with another team.
