Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose released the following statement earlier this evening:

“I have always felt that the Bulls organization’s goals have been the same as mine and that is to bring another championship to this city.”

Let's be clear here, what has been said are mere words at this point. Which will dissolve into so much hot air once Rose is back on the floor this year.

I have always thought Rose's better nature would win out over this behind the scenes push (that many didn't even believe existed) to get him to sit.

We shouldn't be indicting Rose for something he has not done yet.

I think in the end this ends up being kind of just a loud protest vote by the Rose camp.

Is this team without Rose guaranteed to win any playoff series? I personally don't think so...Not at the 4th or 5th seed. Maybe if they sneak into the 3rd seed and face the Hawks at the 6, but I don't find it to be a good bet for them to beat Miami, New York, Brooklyn (best bet for a win though) or Indy if they don't get a 3 seed or higher.

That's the standard that is being set now? If you take the best player off any team in the league, are any of them guaranteed to win a playoff series? MAYBE Miami and that's if they get a Bucks-like opponent in the first round. Everybody else is 50-50 at best.

Perfect comment by Rose.

There is some serious fighting going on behind the scenes, though.

This is exactly what it is. I'm not going to get into any details, but believe me when I tell you this.

Reggie is Derrick's de facto father & Derrick listens to him 100%. That being said, Reggie is not out for riches & fame. The family is already set for life. Reggie is the reason gangbangers in Englewood stayed away from Rose as a child. When Rose became older & displayed his God-given gift as a basketball player, the hood shielded him from the typical BS (drug dealing, fast women trying to get pregnant by him, etc...). Everyone knew that Reggie was willing to literally give his life, in order for his little brother to make it out of the hood. He pushed him to perfect his game & he pushed him to become MVP. I know it sounds like a sappy movie, but it's the truth.

I'm only saying all of this because some of the descriptions of the man are way off base.

None of that makes this situation any different.

He screwed up and went to far, he threw the team under the buss, and is hurting his brothers reputation with his teammates and his fans.

I personally agree with everything he said, but it should of never been said publicly, in the final stretch of the season, with the team in playoff contention and playing well. Especially since the whole team has been using the return as a rallying cry the entire season.

I fully agree that Rose should come back REGARDLESS of who his teammates are and what their level of skill in basketball may actually be.

But the idea that this team being at a .585 winning percentage is a honest look at how good the team actually is is a bit off to me. Which is why I asked the question I did.

Also, the idea that a team without it's best player would suck hard is wrong. It was wrong when we said it about Derrick...And it's wrong when it's being portrayed about other teams. The only teams that would suck hard without it's best players are .500 teams or teams that weren't very good to begin with.

My stream feed of tonight's game just showed LeBron and Reggie Rose talking with their mouth's covered for a minute in the background and then gave a close up of them talking. LeBron was animated and nodding a lot.

I do not like this.

Another thing this has done, even if Rose comes back, is damp down expectations.

If Reggie is so worried about Rose being seen to fail to live up to expectations, and not to be blamed when the Bulls finally get eliminated *with* Rose in this year's playoffs if that happens (as he was certainly blamed to a degree in 2011), then he has helped set it up so that those kind of reactions are much less.

There are more angles than just the obvious one here, of him not coming back.

Well . . . the dynasty Bulls (the greatest NBA team of all time) lost in the second round without MJ. I think its fair that Rose demands that a dynasty level all time great team be created for him before he returns. Anything else is a complete failure by the FO.

I understand the frustration that some of you feel regarding the "public" part, but I'm starting to believe that his "private" words have been falling on deaf ears. He would not have come out publicly if that wasn't the case, IMHO.

How does this statement get through to the media? Does he just relay it through a PR person who then gives the information to the media or what?

HA, you think!?

I think it's easier to list all-star starters who haven't moved in the past few years

The fact that Chicago wasn't a realist destination for any of them, for one reason or another, speaks volume for managements priorities. We compromise with no one!

I don't see why people can't take both Roses' comments at face value and still allow for a rift to be non-existent.

All Reggie said was "what have they done to get better?" "it's frustrating to see him try so hard and they don't put anything around him" etc, etc. Reggie can be frustrated, and note that they haven't upgraded the roster, and still not be upset with them - angry at Gar and Pax, if/because he realizes they haven't had the opportunity to. They haven't added to the roster, and that is frustrating, to all of us, because like the Roses, we all want to win. That doesn't mean they aren't trying and aren't doing their job.

It's worth reminding everyone that Reggie clarified that Rose will likely be back, that he's looking out for Derrick, and that there is no rift.

Oh yeah, to add, it completely reinforced the perception that Chicago is not a preferred destination making it much harder to recruit a second star. I'm sure glad Reggie got his feelings off his chest though.

Return to Chicago Bulls
