Reggie Rose thinks the organization needs to help to get the Bulls a title....sounds like Jerry Krause's kind of guy!

Um, talk to them and recruit them like everyone else in the NBA does?
So now not only does Rose have to carry the entire team offensively on the court, he also has to actually build the team himself too. Is Rose on the phone with other GMs talking trades? Should he be?
What the hell is the FO getting paid for?
johnnyvann840 wrote:And the one thing I love about Kobe is he calls his teammates out right to their face and he does it himself.
This is hilarious. You ever hear about the time Kobe talked **** about Andrew Bynum to a fan and the fan recorded it and put it on the internet? Did you hear a few weeks ago when Kobe basically called Howard a sissy to the media for not playing with an injury? Did you see the video of Kobe trashing long ago teammates when he visited a college campus?
This Reggie article has made people completely irrational, and this statement by you is a great example.
coldfish wrote:Specifically with this thread, let's stay on point. Read Reggie's words. He is basically saying its not worth it for Rose to play when he isn't on a title contender and he obviously isn't very confident in Rose's knee OR Rose's ability.
Or you can read Reggie's words this way: my brother is working his ass off to get back on the court, and for the past 6 months, the Bulls have been in cost cutting mode, not build a champion mode.
coldfish wrote:- He should have been putting on public pressure this summer or before the trade deadline (you know, when the Bulls could have done something) and done so in a constructive fashion. His quotes sound less intelligent and informed than my 10 year old son.
There's a pretty damn good chance that Reggie and Co. have been privately putting pressure on the FO to make the team better. And after not only seeing the FO fail but basically hearing that the Bulls motivation in any rumored deal was to cut costs, Reggie got fed up and went public.
Mr Funk wrote:GetBuLLish wrote:Bulls FO need to have their feet held to the fire, or else we'll definitely get financially motivated moves forever.
Then show us how it's done, genius.
How about keeping Asik? Or Korver? Or trading for Ben Gordon and a 1st? Or trading for Reddick? Or how about not hard capping the team?
Or how about simply not conducting business in such a manner that virtually every NBA writer consistently states something like "The Bulls big goal is to cut costs" or "The Bulls are very wary about the luxury tax"?
Or how about saying to Rose, "Hey, you work your ass off to get back on the court. And while you do that, we're gonna make this team better for when you get back." And then going out and actually doing this.

Re: Reggie Rose rips Bulls' inactivity
I'll admit i've been both hot and very cold on the FO. I've think they've made some pretty good moves in the past, as well as a few horrible moves recently.
I can't really bash them though. I'm in the camp that doesn't believe a Jermaine O'Neil even helps us in the short term, let alone long term. I think the one guy the Bulls could have gotten that would put us on the level of the Heat is Redick. You gotta believe the Bulls had the assets to get him with the CHA pick... but i guess they value this more than a starting 2-guard as good as Redick. He is a FA, but still - the guy's playing some great bball this year.
I certainly don't blame Reggie Rose for his comments though. While the Bulls are playing amazing basketball this season without Rose, you've got to be a fool to think an Asik, Redick, or other incoming starting player via trade wouldn't put is in great position. To a certain extend he's dead-on right imo. I think Bulls are sometimes lost in translation. They decide to pay the luxury tax this year, yet couldn't match Asik's deal (really a value contract if you look at the value of 7-footers and what they get on the open market) or get a valuable 2-guard. Rip Hamilton is done. He's been done. I think our team is honestly better off playing Butler at the 2 than throw out old Rip and his rusty jumpshot.
Anyway - to get away from the past, I still think the Bulls have a chance to beat the Heat with a healthy Derrick Rose... but i don't believe they will. I really don't know what to think as a fan. It's almost like the FO is giving it a shot, but yet are still staying very very conservative. Ultimately, i guess they don't want to make a mistake where they pay a guy Boozer money and he starts to suck. Still, if you really want to win a championship in this league, you've got to take a chance.

Sheeeeatttttttttt. I just remembered that WWW is Thibbs' agent, and that it has been confirmed that Thibbs hasn't truly signed the contract yet.
End line is probably that Gar and Michael Reinsdorf bind and gag Jerry and Pax, spend all of JR's money on whoever WWW, Thibbs, Lebron, Rose, and Gar think they should, and Bulls win the next 10 titles.

Well money talks the most in that area, and so can Derrick Rose. Time to start recruiting.
Unfortunately many Bulls fans were rah rahing behind Rose's refusal to recruit in 2010, and saying how they couldn't stand to root for a LeBron James. Many also hated Kobe, and just about 80% of the league that is mentioned in trade talks are never good enough for Bulls fans.
We can either root for our team against all odds with declining try hards like Kirk, or start taking some chances on guys that might have less winning personalities and likability, but haven't actually murdered anyone, and may help us even out talent wise.

After reading some of the posts in this thread I kinda hope that's what it comes to.
I am having trouble believing it as well. After all the conversations here bout JR and his unwillingness to spend, and how that leaves us at an unnecessary disadvantage, people are actually upset Rose is taking a stand against that.

Is this team without Rose guaranteed to win any playoff series? I personally don't think so...Not at the 4th or 5th seed. Maybe if they sneak into the 3rd seed and face the Hawks at the 6, but I don't find it to be a good bet for them to beat Miami, New York, Brooklyn (best bet for a win though) or Indy if they don't get a 3 seed or higher.
That's the standard that is being set now? If you take the best player off any team in the league, are any of them guaranteed to win a playoff series? MAYBE Miami and that's if they get a Bucks-like opponent in the first round. Everybody else is 50-50 at best.
I wouldn't assume this group without Rose can't win a playoff series. They weren't expecting to be without Rose last year, and don't forget the Noah injury. Even without Rose, Noah and Deng SHOULD be healthier this year and Boozer is having a better year.

Yup. But why did it come down to this. The Bulls have never paid tax. Never. They avoid it like the plague. Now they have to pay this year only because they couldn't strike a decent deal to avoid it. And we pay in a season in which we have no chance to win. It looks less like a strong commitment to win, and more like something they are grudgingly accepting.

I just realized something while reading your response.
Derrick Rose does not have a seat at the table regarding making moves. And if he does have a seat, they obviously do not approve of the long term plan of the bulls, if the bulls even have a plan.
If the 2014 plan is real, and Derricks camp knows about it, why would they say this now?
I dont know if this was talked about, I havent read the whole thread.
Maybe the bulls had to tell Reggie that because they payed the tax this year they will have to delay their moves once again, to avoid the repeater tax.
They are probably mad that they just got strictly worse, and could not even avoid the tax, therefor they would of been better off keeping last years team together.

I hear you, but to be clear I asked a question in a way which was specific to not assume they wouldn't win a playoff series. I'd give them a chance against NYK, Indy and more than a chance against Brooklyn. But I do believe the point of Derrick's brother was that this team needs more. And without the talent to guarantee at least 1 playoff series win, I think it's fair to question the talent of his team.
And before coldfish comes in with another funny, no I don't agree with the way Reggie went about questioning it.

Not the assumption I am making at all. I'm believe in the team more than most. But the original poster used the word "guaranteed," which is a ridiculous threshold as others have pointed out.

That being said, why are so many people mad?? Most of us here have been saying this forever.
Two years ago, most of us were pissed they didnt trade Asik for Mayo when it couldve been done. I firmly believe that with Mayo, Bulls beat Heat 2 years ago. Fast forward 1 year and they let Asik walk for nothing anyway. Im not ripping them for not matching that absurd contract, but its a perfect example of Gar/Pax being their typical selves and not cashing in their chips when they still have value. That most definatly hurts this teams ability to get better
Pretty good points. I think one thing we can infer is that Rose wants more offensive help, rather than defensive role players.

No, if they found a good deal they possibly would have.
But unlike posters here, they would not have taken a Rip for nothing deal...They actually find value in him unlike a lot of people here.

End of the day it will come down to spending. When many people's dream guy, JJ Redick, even wants 10 million dollars, good luck building some frugal team with enough talent to compete with the big boys. There is essentially no hope for that unless you land about 4 or 5 new Asik and Gibson level players on rookie deals. To do that you need to trade established talent. We have to pick a lane.
