In case anyone wondered, neither JJ Redick or his people gave Milwaukee assurances he would re-sign this summer before the deal went down

Why would he ever give that kind of assurance to anyone? He needs to see what's out there, obviously.

Hammond didn't need any assurances. He knows he will outbid anyone that tries. Not to worry, Johnny Boy says.
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

Exactly..If he's a no brainer max guy it's one thing but why would you guarantee at less than max.

Having stepped back from this for a moment and calmed down -

Look, if this team was a piece away from become even a reasonable title contender, I'm 100% in favor of this move. But we're not. We're a solid step-and-a-half below the premier teams in the league. So, trading a young asset like Tobes for 30 games of JJ Redick just comes off as asinine for me.

Is it the worst trade of all time? No. We didn't lose any of the best assets on the roster. But Tobes was one of the few rookies I've seen who seemed to have polished offensive moves, particularly on the block. He was certainly a project, but FFS, he's 20 YEARS OLD. I would've liked to give him a chance to develop into a long term piece here rather than swap him for the chance to lose 4-2 in the first round.

4-2 against the Heat in the 1st round would be impressive

Well said. 100% agree. But we gotta lock up that 8th seed baby. :(

Yes, I do have an issue giving up Tobias Harris. I also have an issue giving up long-term assets to construct a team that is still first round fodder. I also have an issue doing said move to acquire a player that is playing behind the current team leader in minutes played, who also sucks and should have been traded.

I think of it this way. Of all the assets we had before 2:00 PM today, the only ones we used are Tobias Harris, who should have been kept unless part of a larger deal than this, and Beno Udrih. Dalembert, Dunleavy, Jennings, Ellis all lost all trade value after 2:00 today, to us. This is assuming Ellis opts out, which he will. Out of the supposed "Hammond has the most assets we've had in forever", we basically gave up the Harris asset and then swapped Redick/Udrih expirings. Great job, give that man another extension.

That's not good. Nearly every time the Bucks are the perceived "winners" in a trade it ends up being horribly horribly awful for them.

Yes because the Magic were the big losers in the Howard trade.
The 76ers won that one....oh wait, Bynum is still out right?
The Nuggets won it....Iggy is having a monster year, wait no, about average
The Lakers definately won it.....wait they are how much below .500? with added drama -1
The Magic lost it.....no they are having a poor year but yet have 3 promising players

Luke, I made this point earlier somewhere, look around the league. Redick is a better asset than any of our expirings and all he got was our **** package. Our "assets" really weren't.

I thought we were taking Faried for sure when we traded down in that draft and was shocked when we took Tobias. At least with the Magic he should get playing time to develop his game. We may as well trade our picks before the drafts if we are going to keep taking projects and then not give them the time to develop. Still excited about all the possibilities that we could do with the cap space that we'll have this summer, by scared at the endless possibilities for us to f'it up.

Also if we think this blah-blah coach can get us higher than the 8th seed

Good thing we're a long way away until we're a winning team.

I think this is an under-rated angle we haven't talked about in the excitement by many to have dumped Skiles last moth.

Boylan is a great guy personally, but we don't exactly have Jerry Sloan or Phil Jackson here. Nor do we have the prison warden to keep guys in line from that angle.

It is possible this collapse keeps continuing, Redick or no Redick and Boylan won't be talented enough to stop it.

Maynor was had for just a trade exception?

Damn. Wish we would've made that move. Not that stoked for Ish Smith.

We had a $2.5M trade exception from Jax which expired today and we did nothing with it.

I bet Hammond didn't even know.

DB, you can certainly question whether Ellis was an "asset" but I certainly think it's indubitable that both Dalembert and Dunleavy could have been moved if we were bent on selling.

Probably an accurate point.

We didn't have a roster spot for Maynor. We had to get Ish Smith here for the playoff run.

Can't wait for reddick to shoot career lows since that's what it seems every player does when we either trade for or sign as FA

Wonder how dunleavy and redick will work on the court together. They are literally the same player with the same exact game.

Pryzbilla needed that roster spot for sure, if there is anything we lack it's bigs.
