Hickson, who was claimed off waivers by the Blazers after the Sacramento Kings were unable to move him at last year's deadline. Hickson was a strong candidate to bounce back, and he's actually played the best basketball of his career in Portland. Now Hickson might be due to go the opposite direction, especially on the glass. He's pulling down 20.7 percent of all available rebounds this season, far surpassing his previous career high (17.7 percent). The real problem is that Hickson's double-double averages (12.9 PPG, 10.6 RPG) overstate his value because he's such a poor defender. Hickson is a strong candidate to be overpaid as an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Blazers would be wise to get value for him now.

I believe Hickson loses his Bird Rights if he is traded anywhere (unless I'm thinking of someone else).

I'm not saying Player B is a better player, but for our small market team and where we are in rebuilding, I would rather sign Player B for $5 mln this summer than Player A for 15 mln.
(Player A is Al Jefferson; Player B is Robin Lopez)
Great point and Robin Lopez would be good for us but as fats stated he is most likely staying in NO for I'd say 8-9m per, no way he gets 5m when guys like Hump get 12m.
I'd also like to state that Al Jefferson plays for a team that has arguably the most stacked front court in the league and sharing the paint with quality hinders statistical output.
Jefferson on a team as bad as ours with no front court help is a 23/11, 36 minute per game player.
Would you prefer Jefferson for 12-13 million or Lopez for 8-9 million?
I honestly think signing breakout players for big to decent money is taking a Tyrus type flyer, why do so when we need quality?

BrotherDave wrote:Via Hoopsworld: http://www.hoopsworld.com/new-pekovic-deal-could-put-wolves-into-tax/As for Nikola Pekovic it’s a little more complicated. Minnesota loves Pekovic and really doesn’t want to trade him; however, it is becoming increasingly clear that Pekovic is going to draw a major multi-year offer as a restricted free agent. Assuming Andrei Kirilenko picks up his $10.21 million player option as he has said he’ll do; the Wolves could find themselves looking at the luxury tax line if someone offers Pekovic $10 million or more per season in free agency.
Wolves source say that future luxury tax really is not factoring into their process, but for Minnesota luxury tax is a scary concept considering where they project in the West.

Screw Hump, let's go after Non.
I agree with this despite my sentiment about breakout players and overpaying but Pek is most definitely worth the gamble and we do have some pieces to trade for him.

Pek would be a good pickup...dude is one of the strongest players in the league in the paint.. and has offense too. I think there will be about 5 teams that will try and give him at least 10m per yer

We should sign Carl Landry this offseason. He's one of the best values in the league at 4mln this year and could be a valuable veteran presence for our youngsters.

The only FA that interests me is Hickson. I am now pro-tank for 2013-2014 and I want Andrew Wiggins.

I think we will be a pretty decent team next year and out of the Wiggins sweepstakes barring insane injuries.

I'm with Liver on this one, I think we may be pretty decent next season and we probably won't be in the top two picks unless we have some luck (unlikely).
The reason for this is that Kemba will obviously improve, Biz will obviously have improved, MKG will definitely improve, Sessions is in a contract year and Gordon and Tyrus will most likely be gone.
Henderson will still be here imo but we will probably still draft a SG.
We will probably get 32 wins next year, call me delusional all you want.
We should capitalise on this and go for Al, Millsap or Pekovic.
(and trade for Derrick Williams)

I used to think that we'd be too good to tank successfully for Wiggins but then I remembered that we have the ol' tankmaster at the helm.

Lol might sound pathetic but Im going to be more stoked about next season than I was the year after we made the playoffs, mainly because we all knew we had hit our peak.
Well that and we traded Chandler for some frozen yogurt.

Him and if we still have Ben Gordon, he's a terrific tankmaster as well.

I think there is one thing that you guys are overlooking. Yes, we will improve this summer, but other teams will as well. Washington will be adding another top five pick to a team that was without John Wall all season. Kyrie is exploding for Cleveland. Hotlanta has capspace for days, so they will likely get a couple nice freeagents. Detroit should see improvement from their three young stars just like we should. While I am sure that we will pick up a few more wins with another summer of youth development I do not see us leapfrogging many teams without a major talent influx. If we drafted the next rookie of the year, and signed two bigs who can play then maybe we would fall out of contention. I don't see both of those happening. So next year we will still likely have one of the worst front courts in the league, and or no real go to scorer. The Wiggins incursion is still a very real possibility fellas.

agreed. there arent many scenarios that can happen between now and next year that pulls us out of the bottom 5 teams in the league. orlando will be terrible next year. the kings will probably be terrible next year. and maybe the suns, although they seem intent on getting back on the treadmill ASAP. however, if josh smith leaves, atlanta might have a hard time luring any good free agents with their money. like charlote, they are hardly a premier destination. it wouldnt surprise me to see them crash. im not sold on anything the wiz are doing. i see them in the bottom 5 again.
my best guess at bottom 5 next season
30. orlando
29. kings
28. charlotte
27. washington
26. phoenix

One think people forget is there will be at least half a dozen teams tanking next year for Wiggins.
Orlando
Seattle
Toronto
Phoenix
Washington
Charlotte
Portland
Atlanta

I am in agreement that we should stop talking about Wiggins. There is a very low chance he will become a bobcat. But...
Orlando- Sure
Seattle- Sure
Phoenix- Yep
Washington- Maybe
Charlotte- Yep
Toronto- There competing for a playoff spot
Portland- Lillard/Batum/LMA? No way they are tanking
Atlanta- Al Horford and ton of cap space
So really 5 teams that could be the worst in the league.
