The Cavs are waiting until after the trade deadline in the event an opportunity to utilize their cap space presents itself. Oden's in no rush, Cavs are in no rush. So both are doing what is best for the team.

Report came out today that he's gonna wait til the offseason, which unfortunately means he'll probably sign with the Heat

Honestly, as much as I like Oden this could be a blessing. If we grab Alex Len in this years draft we don't need Oden at all, Len's two-way potential is ridiculous and I could see him being what everyone wishes Brook Lopez was.

Re: WHEN WILL WE SIGN ODEN ????
Yes.
He has a 7'5" wingspan and he's not stuck to the ground like most 7'1", 7'2" post players. He moves well and is pretty athletic, his defensive potential is limitless. He's not gonna bea 4 bpg guy, but more like an Andrew Bogut who is just an overall great defender.
He's already very far along offensively and runs the floor well for his size and could be very good in our offense.

It looks like now that the trade deadline has passed, we'll be making him an offer.

Re: WHEN WILL WE SIGN ODEN ????
We're not even sure if Oden can play, or get through a summer camp without his knee exploding.
Scouts have said Len is like Big Z but more athletic.
And I'm not trying to belittle Oden it's just that I'm skeptical that he can be half the player he was supposed to be.

If anybody was sure, he'd wait until the off-season to sign and get a max deal.
Also I don't think signing Oden would stop us from drafting a C.

Re: WHEN WILL WE SIGN ODEN ????
We know his skillset, but we don't know if he still possesses it after all the surgeries.
I don't think I'm wrong to be skeptical, maybe I'm just blowing this out of proportion but I don't want us investing our future in something that isn't definite. This is a low-risk, high reward move and I'm not against it, I just don't want to sway from our original plans because we signed Oden.

Re: WHEN WILL WE SIGN ODEN ????
I share the skepticism that he can come back, I don't think he'll ever make it back to what he was. Just like Sabonis and Z didn't make it back to what they were. But they were able to make it back to be quality players. That said; it's a low risk proposition to bring him in for a year.
1) He's over 7' tall; even with his knees missing.
2) We have two centers under contract and the second, currently hurt one, will likely be dealt in the offseason or early in 2013/14 season.
3) No one is counting on him to be a difference maker. Even if the talent isn't there anymore; a Steven Hunter type backup still has value.
4) The Cavs need to spend a significant amount of money to reach the salary floor without hurting 2014 flexibility; ripe to roll the dice. Either they pay someone like Oden or they pay someone else.
5) If he gets hurt, so be it. If he doesn't, you've generated some good will towards re-signing him at a reasonable rate.
Lets see a 3 year $10 million dollar deal, with the first two guaranteed and the third (2014) a team option.

Re: WHEN WILL WE SIGN ODEN ????
Oden won't effect any plans we would have for 2014 because we'd have a team option for him that year.
Given how much cap space we have, I'm not sure he'd even hurt our ability to sign a max free agent this summer.

Otto Porter is a seamless fit who will add tremendous perimeter D. I could see him being Nicolas Batum without the ridiculous motor. Not saying Porter doesn't have a motor just that Batum is on speed.
