Buster Olney - Jays have 5th hardest schedule in AL

Post#1 » by premedfailure » Sat Feb 23, 2013 9:16 pm

5. Toronto Blue Jays
Games against teams with records .500 or better last season: 23 of their first 41.
Home/Road: 21 of their first 41 will be at home.
Schedule notes: Only three of their first 16 games are within the AL East, but from April 19 until May 26, they will face a parade of division rivals, including 10 games in that span against the Yankees and home-and-home series with the Orioles and the Rays.
The hurdle ahead: They didn't catch much of a break with their early interleague play -- in May, they'll have a two-game set against the Giants, then a four-game set against the Atlanta Braves.

Its going to important for us to get a good start since we rank much higher than the other AL east teams.

Isn't it like this every year? Since you know, we play in the AL East?

Yes. I'm surprised he hasn't ranked it higher than 5th. They'll be playing one of the toughest schedules in baseball as usual.

That's what I thought.

All Buster has proven is that we do indeed play in the AL East.

And are matched up with tougher teams from the NL in interleague play.

It is not so much that we have a difficult schedule of opponents, but rather that we are our opponent's difficult schedule.

Teams in AL west have Houston now. At least 2 teams from that Division are making the playoffs for sure. Need to have some kind of balanced schedule solution.

Yeah, it makes no sense to have a wildcard, let alone two wildcards, without a balanced schedule.

And with the Rays, Orioles and Jays all in the mix to win the division from year to year, why wouldn't MLB want to help the Yanks or Red Sox get a WC spot?

With 15 teams in each league now, interleague isn't going anywhere.

We definitely need a balanced schedule....its messed up that possibly 5 out of 5 teams in the division might end up fighting for a wildcard (hey, some people think the BoSox are flying under the radar) and that the 3rd team in the league might not get a spot while Detroit gets to spend its season beating up on a little league division where no division rival might have a winning record.

In comparison, last year the Jays had the 2nd hardest schedule in the league, with a SOS just .001 less than #1 (SEA)
