Well I guess that's one way to keep the Yankees at bay.

Never the type to cheer about an injury, but it will certainly help us.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
#Yankees, if they choose, can find a better option toward end of camp. However, will be much more difficult for Granderson to learn LF now.

TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson suffered a fractured right forearm Sunday after being hit by a pitch in his first at-bat in a spring training game and will be out until at least the first week of May.

Granderson was hit by a 2-2 pitch from J.A. Happ and left the game in obvious pain. Originally, the injury was announced as a bruised forearm but he was taken to a local hospital for X-rays, which revealed the fracture.

Granderson was set to play his first game in left field as the Yankees experiment with moving Brett Gardner to center field, but he never got a chance after he was hurt in the top of the first inning.

Hitting with two runners on and two out in the first, Granderson took Happ's pitch off his right hand and was met at first base by manager Joe Girardi and a team trainer.

Granderson has been the Yankees' starting center fielder since he was acquired from the Detroit Tigers as part of a three-way trade. He has led the Yankees in home runs the last two seasons, but his defense has come under scrutiny.

With Gardner back after missing most of last season due to an elbow injury, Granderson was to be tried in left field for the first time since 2007, when he played two games there.

Granderson was replaced in left field by Ronnier Mustelier.

Who says Happ can't contribute to the big club as a member of the Buffalo Bisons... ;)

With Granderson out, does anyone even have a clue who'd replace him? Looking at the non-roster types, the most recognizable namers are Juan Rivera and Matt Diaz. That has to be a little scary for Yankees fans if they're looking at either of those two as the opening day leftfielder. It's crazy that Gardner's the young one, and he's 29. If they hadn't already had so many great years out of so many old fogeys the last couple years, I'd be so close to writing them off, but they always seem to get what they need. Still, Cano and CC are going to be under so much pressure with this year's edition of the Yankees. Guys who would in other years have been reclamation projects under no pressure, and hence more likely to succeed, are absolutely being counted on (I'm thinking of Youkilis and Hafner here). Please let this be the year they've stretched their luck just a bit too far.

The Jays better keep Bautista out of the remaining ST games against NYY.

And Reyes, and Encarnacion, and Melky, and Lawrie. F it, they should just keep the whole damn team out(except Lind).

I remember when Halladay hit Ortiz in his last start as a Jay in response to Lind getting hit the day before. Of course, that was back when people actually cared whether Lind got hit by pitches.

So you'd think they would be over it? Or because of the extent of the injury, they would do more? :dontknow:

Division rival. Meaningless exhibition game. 10 week injury. I think this one will run quite a bit deeper than most beanballs would.

Come on, the Yankees are not going to purposely injure Bautista or Reyes because of Happ accidentally hitting Granderson. These sorts of things happen in baseball. No one wants to see players get hurt, but it happens, and the risk is higher now in Spring Training as pitchers are no where near regular season form. I'd be more worried about Jays hitters facing A-ball and Double-A pitchers in Spring Training who have no command of their stuff yet.

A different situation was A-Rod in 2007 after he did that play at 3B. The Jays were waiting to bean him for that, multiple times. I don't think it will be the case here. At the end of the day, Lawrie was hit as payback, and Granderson will probably be back in May. It is a long season. I doubt this will carry over any further.

I don't feel bad for the Yanks. Sucks a player got hurt, you never want to see even your worse enemy get hurt. But maybe it's payback from A-Rod shouting "Ha!" to Johnny Mac years back.

Wouldn't be the first time the Yankees have started something in ST over a regular baseball play if they do: http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280312130
