Oh well. 6 quarters of the right approach.

9 assists and only 3 turnovers but all the sudden he decided to start shooting from outside. That was like 3 extra turnovers and over a short period of time. I think his ego kicked in watching Jose and Will Bynum scoring so much from outside.

Should have stuck to the other plan John. Drive more instead.

And what happen to Webster and Beal. This just disappeared. They wouldn't shoot.

Oh, and Randy is a fool so waiting so long to call a time out. He just don't get it. We all could see them playing 180% different on back to back to back to back possession.

Randys style is to play through it. Its a bad idea. Call the Fing TO. Specially in a tight game like that.

And where was Okafor. He was on fire. 25 minutes when you are 10-15 from the field and 9 rebounds :roll:

He was riding the pines most of the 4th. So stupid.

Gary Payton just said on NBAtv that John Wall reminds him of his self more than any NBA player. He will work with him this summer to help him improve his game. I hope he teaches Wall how to use his size in the post and how to talk trash and get into your opponents head.

One thing that Payton did so well was post up.

The downside of being as tall and long as Wall is that it's somewhat difficult for him to stay in front of these ultraquick little guys like Isiah Thomas. The counter is to post them up. What good is all that height if Wall doesn't use it to his advantage?

I'd like to see Wall develop a post up game. We could go "small" by putting in a stretch four at the PF and Nene at the C, and then run the offense through Wall in the post. It could definitely be useful down the stretch when we need a reliable offensive option in the half court. Beal will need to become a better ball handler though. Someone will need to initiate the offensive set while Wall establishes position.

A stretch 4 would be nice- but a high flyer/all star stud at the 4 would be something that the Wizards need desperately. I wonder how differently Gary Payton's career would be viewed if he never had a prime Shawn Kemp.

Nene is pretty good- but I wonder how long he can keep playing like this because the development of Wall is taking some time time.

Wall actually went to the post and backed down his defender a few times in the Detroit game. Nothing serious but I was pleasantly surprised.

Yeah people forget how efficient Payton was in the post.You're right, what's the point of being so tall if you don't use your size advantage.

Wall seems to have posted guys up a few times this year, moreso than previous years. I wish there were numbers on that.

Synergy has him with 2 post ups this season. Both plays resulted in missed shots with a foul.

Hopefully Gary works with him on his jumper too, not just post moves. Particularly his 3pt shot. Gary went from an average shooter to a great shooter over his first 3 years.

If there is one guy we would want Wall to learn from and try to model some of his game after, it is The Glove. Easily my fave PG of all time.

Probably never, and I'm the biggest Wall fan here. Gil had the best work ethic of any player in the NBA. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And yet Gil played terrible and lazy defense. He was a gym-rat, but I think "work ethic" must transcend "how much time you spend working" and also include things like the ability and desire to examine and correct one's weaknesses.

Well, after taking a lot of time off with the knee issue, Wall is now 21 games in and 14 as a stater.

I think the rotations are settled in and Wall should start to as well. He should be pretty much back in game shape by now.

In the last 5 games he has had 3 double double and missed a 4th by 1 assist

For Feb, he has missed 4 double double games by just 1 assist in each.

Thats just 1 assist in 4 games from having 7 out of 10 games being double doubles.
For Feb his is averaging 8.7 ast and 14.4 pts

Only two games left for Feb so he would need to crank up the assists in each to average 10 assists for the month.

I was hoping for many 10 assist games from him this year with the team having better outside shooters on it. Looks like he is starting to get it going.

I would have no problem at all if he starts to average 10-11 assists 12-14 pts on .430 shooting 4-5 FTA 2-3 TOs

In my book, that would be John becoming a star.

Funny thing is, remove that ass of a game against TOR 1-12 shooting 7 TOs 6 asts, and his Feb numbers would be almost spot on those target numbers.

I sure hope he is about to settle in and get focused on efficiently playing PG and cranking up the assists.

I prefer a team build with a true pass first PG. Been saying that since back in the Gil days.

I would rather have Wall/Beal then Gil/DS or Gil/Hughes

It was always going to be a challenge to build a good team around a max contract shoot first PG that didn't play D. Thats why I never believed those teams. Solid first round team would never really challenge in the second round.

I would rather have a player like Beal on the floor playing a larger scoring role with a passing PG that plays defense and enough shots left over for some post possessions from the PF and center who both also play defense.

One think about those Gil team, there was never really any shots left over for post play. Even when Haywood would get it going, they would always go away from him.

That wasn't Gil's fault. It was because those teams always had 2 other high volume scorers. Even when Haywood had it going, he was never a reliable scoring option. I'm surprised that people are even comparing Wall to Gil. Prime Gil, Beal, Ariza Nene Okafor would be a top 3 team in the east this year.

Yup. Indeed, this team is perfectly built for Gilbert Arenas. The defense is already in place. Arenas by himself makes them a competent offensive team. A top 5 defense and a number 15ish offense would indeed be a top 3 team in the East.

Well, that debate is all academic. It will never happen so we will never know. People have their views. Gil was fun for a few years but I will always believe that even with a healthy Gil, the way he played and who he was at what he cost, there would always be a limit to how far a team would go with him playing PG the way he did. Maybe if he would have grown and matured such that it wasn't all out him getting points where he passed more. And maybe played some D. Anyway. Again. It will never get tested nor will him playing for anyone so that story is over.

As for the Wizards, for a team that is still last on the year, they are 22nd for Feb and they seem to be climbing.

Should be interesting to see what the number look like at the end of the year for the healthy version of the team.
