He's 6'9 doing dunks he should be able to easily do. Nothing he did was difficult for someone for his size. He should have jump over yao ming or something something hard

James Whites misses were more impressive. The fact the guy came from the free throw line with two hands and that windmill from the freethrow line was amazing.

The Dunk Contest needs to be treated like the Olympics. Once every 3 or 4 years to keep it fresh and build anticipation.

The NBA would be wise to rotate a series of events in and out of All Star Weekend. And play defense in the Rookies v Sophomores game.

At this point, I'm not sure which is more yawn-inducing:

MLB All Star Weekend or NBA All Star Weekend.

Actually, the viewership for both All Star games has been decreasing for years:

MLB All Star Game actually set an all time low for viewers last year and still managed to garner 10 million viewers.

NBA All Star Game ratings have been so low that no Broadcast Network will even show the game anymore. Last year the NBA All Star Game actually lost in a head to head matchup with 'The Oscars'. They did still managed to garner around 7 million viewers which is pretty solid for cable.

The NBA adjusted their entire All Star schedule to avoid going head to head with the Oscars again.

If david stern devised a system that created stars and let them stay on their draft team i bet everyone would watch again like the early 2000s, you loved to watch basketball as a whole

Actually, I was just reiterating a refrain that's been debated for the last few years. The lack of star power in the Dunk Contest these days is...disheartening.

2006 -
Slam has become a sham
NBA should replace tired dunk contest with HORSE
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/mark_bechtel/02/01/scorecard.daily/index.html

2012 -
Should NBA Move Away From Slam Dunk Contest?

2012 -
Dunk Contest lacks stars and creativity
http://www.thevanguardonline.com/sports/736-dunk-contest-lacks-stars-and-creativity.html

2013 -
You've Already Seen Tonight's N.B.A. Dunk Contest, and It Sucked
http://www.esquire.com/blogs/culture/nba-slam-dunk-contest-rockism-15104543

The last two years have featured a ton of lower tier players most fans (and non-fans) have never heard of.

Pre record the Dunk Contest and Horse, make the Dunk contest longer and you have a winner. The reason the Dunk contest is losing its luster is that people see them missing...alot. But if you want really creative dunks some misses are going to be there.

It also is losing its luster because you have little knowns in it. Look at the following:
White: 6.7 mpg
Ross: 16.9 mpg
Green: 19.8 mpg
Evans: 5.4 mpg
Bledsoe: 21.8 mpg
Faried: 29.4 mpg

You don't have the stars that the past have had in it. They will show up to watch and "help" but they won't be in it.

For the homerun derby, you have big names in it. Fielder, Bautista, Cano, Kemp, Beltran, Cargo...all are names that are well known and are the top players for their respective teams (or near the top).

I like the format of of the MLB all-star game as well. I do like that you will have a player from every team on it. With the NBA, unless you are a huge fan of the NBA, what is the point to watch it? The MLB has tied home field advantage so it doesn't become a glorified slam dunk contest (281 points in the game? Seriously?). If you are a fan of the Royals you can watch the all-star game to see your guy play.

I'm also not a fan of the new team skills challenge. I like it in years past where you would have a wnba player, nba, and a legend of that team. This year you have Nique, Bosh, and some lady from the Chicago Sky.

My suggestions:

- Drop the team skills challenge, no one cares about that s***, including the players involved, except maybe the WNBA player
- For that matter, drop the PG Skills Challenge and the Three Point Shootout as well
- Dunk Contest determined by judges instead of fans
- Bring in a full day 1v1 tourney

Kenny Walker and Spud Webb weren't exactly lighting the world on fire either. A good dunk is a good dunk.

Oh lord there you go again Skip!!! Terrence Ross Deserved it!!!! In my opinion Evans shouldn't have even made it to the final round, its All props with him, but Ross was a Dunker, still DeRozan would have won easier if he was in it cuz he could do the vinsanity 360 windmill.
