It would be a travesty if he did. He is not the coach of the future for this team.

The one thing that probably hurts Pops' chances are continuity. He's had the same core for so long and playing so well that really his coaching job is a lot easier. Last year he got a lot of extra props because Ginobilli was out for half the season.

Some of you didn't get the point. I never said Dwane Casey deserves it. Smitch didn't deserve it either, but he did win it.

Smitch was underrated by a lot of fans. He had that roster playing hard for him and they won the division. It's not like that roster had any business finishing third in the east.

The situation is completely different from the Mitchell situation.
They went from lottery team to winning the Atlantic, leading the Raptors to their best franchise finish (tied but you get the point) with an entirely new roster (minus Calderon, Graham and Bosh)
And Casey's going from lottery team to barely squeaking into the playoffs..if we even make it there...with half of his roster from last season intact (Bargnani, Johnson, Derozan, Anderson, Gray, and Davis/Calderon for half the season)

He was the coach of the team when we went 4-19. You just can't ignore that. If he was a better coach, a COY worthy coach, that wouldn't have happened. If there was a MIC then maybe he would have a shot at that (not that he would deserve it, he's been crap all year). We're at best an 8th seed anyways, the COY doesn't coach an 8 seed.

Just because you keep saying that doesn't it make it a fact, it's just your opinion.

The sportwriters voting on the award clearly disagreed with you. I disagree with you too.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

How does one win COY with a losing record?

Picking 1st overall to winning your division is a lot more dramatic than being mid lottery and sneaking into the playoffs with a losing record.

The 4-19 would likely work against him as well. There was some positive press on the Raptors before the season, a lot of people expected us to be in the running for the 8th seed. The Gay acquisition has been the catalyst for this team so you can't really say Casey has gotten the most out of this team.

Homer Jay wrote:Mitchell should never have won it, he rode BC's roster makeover, coupled with not missing his two best players, (Bosh and Mo Pete) for a good chunk, to the improved record. We were annihilated in the playoffs by an inferior NJ team with a superior coach. They had three stars, but the rest of their roster was a joke. Mikki Moore as your starting C? Enough said.

I think Popovich will win if SA can hit the .800 level to end the season. Vinny Del Negro is in the running, and Spoelstra might get some love too. Mark Jackson could see some love for the improvement in GS's record and possible playoff appearance.

Pop should win it every year...seriously, SA is indescribable.
I don't need a watch, I'm on time when I get there.

Since the turn around would be credited to Gay's addition for the most part I imagine, I can see BC getting consideration for executive of the year if the Raptors get to .500 and make the playoffs before anyone recognizes Casey. I don't think BC has a shot against Morey though, but it would be a laugh if he receives votes. People here will lose it.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….
