So maybe he has sort of figured something out after all?

Lebron has shot 79.3 % from the free throw line since December 10, which is 37 games.

If you consider shooting percentages than yes this would probably be lebron's best month of his career. I know he's had some crazy months before with 30+ ppg and near tripple double averages but there's no way his scoring was anywhere near as efficient.

Man I remember when Jerry Stackhouse would have nights like Lebron just had, except against far superior defenses and with worse teammates, and no one would care. But Lebron gets multiple threads made with people literally orgasming. Makes you wonder how much of it is ESPN hype, how much of it is ignorance of history, or how much of it is people being desperate to prop Lebron up. I wonder what would happen just for a day if Alonzo Gee got the social media hype James gets, prbly would get GOAT peak discussion as well

Finishing with 40/8/16 despite not having his jumper going, and being lackadaisical for the first 4 quarters/OT, is just completely mind blowing.

Yup. Which is why this is gonna be one heck of a postseason.

Lebron is literally looking like the GOAT right now. If he keeps this up, it's clearly the GOAT single-season peak to me.

Just wait till next year. The second year after making a jump is always the better one, because they can settle into their new level of play and refine their game a little more (Lebron 2010 vs 2009, Jordan 92 vs 91, Shaq 01 vs 00, etc. etc.).

What makes you say Jordan in 92 was better than 91 and Shaq in 01 better than 00?

I didn't get to watch the game tonight, sadly, but his box looks totally bananas, even in 2 OT. What was the story with it even going that long against the dang Kings?

It's just a perspective thing. I'm certain most people prefer the prior seasons, and I'd very much agree that they were better seasons, but I believe that the in follow up years for all three of those guys, they were better players (if only slightly). I wouldn't really argue with someone if they preferred the others, because I suppose it's really opinion based, considering how close they are.

Kings were jacking up lots of contested threes that went in.

They totally slept on the kings for most the game. I guess they assumed with the kings road record they could coast. Lebron, wade and bosh all really tuned it on more so only in the OT periods.

Speaking as a Shaq fan, I'd take 2001 playoff Shaq over Shaq at any point in 2000. 2001 playoff Shaq was more patient offensively and a monster on defense.

LeBron seems like he has become more patient this season and is milking the newfound virtue to the fullest extent. So to me, this is his 2001 playoff Shaq moment — but for a full season (presumably).

Should be 31.87 on BBR, which is the one used for comparisons.

Aside from TS% just on raw shooting percentages in feb. Lebron put up a 64% fg, 43% 3p, 81% ft month. Insane. I was actually surprised he shot his ft's that well this month.

I was thinking on this yesterday, but how much of Lebron's improvement can we credit to Ray Allen? We hear about the two having shooting contests after practice, and it seems Lebron has become an elite shooter without really even being able to practice it in the offseason.

Also, Lebron is probably the best in the league right now at hitting open 3 point shooters. I mean, he looks like Nash the way he hits guys in the pocket with no defense around. It seems pretty obvious Ray had some input on where and how shooters like to catch the ball and L incorporated it.

Credit also the fact that he's such a deadly shooter, he opens up the floor for everyone else to do their thing. I know his play hasn't exactly been Impressive, but I really think he brings a lot to that team.

To be honest, now that I have this thought, I see Ray's fingerprints all over Lebron's game this year. Hopefully it will show up in his free throw percentage at some point.

Good post. Just like Lebron losing to Kobe in 1v1s during the Olympics improved his defense, getting detroyed dy Dirk in the mid post made him work on his post game, getting dunked on by Jordan Crawford made him afraid to compete against superior dunkers, and watching Wade carry the Heat during 2011 made him improve his drible drive game. We've watched many players and officials craft Lebron into the player he is today. Truly a feel good story.

He would certainly have to keep it up in the playoffs and finals as well for this to be the case. As the other guys who had the GOAT peaks had the GOAT peaks in each of the season, entire playoffs and of course finals. But the guy has been amazing and I didn't think he would get any better, but he has.

SideshowBob, what do you think the Heat's ORtg will be at season's end?
