New jumbotron? I'd rather they invest in cameras

Will the Jazz join the majority of the NBA and put SportVU cameras in their arena? Will they attend the Sloan Sports Analytics conference like basically every other team in the NBA? Will Randy Rigby talk about how those are exciting possibilities we could look at in the future?

I'd rather see a new jumbotron. Ours is really embarrassing.

We're fixin to be one of the least sophisticated teams from a quantitative analytics perspective. Can't say I would really expect otherwise, we just love tradition and everything old school.

How is a jumbotron embarrassing? It's not like you see it on TV.

Ridiculous statement on both accounts. If they were really that cheap they wouldn't be doing all the upgrades that they have. They would whine, cry, and threat the government to build them a new stadium or they will sell and move the team.

I'm not a huge Greg Miller fan, but if you don't respect what Larry and Gail sacrificed to bring a pro sports franchise to Utah when all the odds were against them then you simply need a history lesson. There's nothing cheap about risking your entire livelihood for an experiment everyone is telling you will fail.

Which upgrades, exactly? I hear Rigby spout off on exciting upgrades but I haven't really noticed anything extraordinarily different from the games I've been to over the past five years (this is an honest question).
But yes, I think you can make a strong argument that their frugality is what has kept them from needing to whine and cry for public arena funding.

Not an upgrade but building the arena on their own and assuming well over the lion's share of the risk. It has been a couple years but the screens/panels that circle around the arena, which cost several million. They have been focusing a lot on upgrading the suite level, expanding the suites and opening them up for more club level style sitting areas. They don't have the same amount of wealth and sponsorship dollars as other teams. They aren't able to throw as much cash around.
Like Neon stated, they risked everything that they had. If they were really cheap and money grubbers they would've sold or moved the team along time ago. They tried going over the luxury cap to keep the team together and keep Deron happy, which turned out to be crap. They aren't likely going to be doing that every again.
Calling the Miller's cheap and also trying to be funny throwing it out there that it has something to do with Mormons or that they are Mormons are cheap is ridiculous, upsetting, and ignorant. If that was said about another religion or ethnicity, it would've been edited already.

Unfortunately the Miller's don't realize that you have to spend money to make money. If you don't spend on marquis players than less fan's come to games and you also sell less jersey's. If you don't target the right age group than you won't attract that group. The Miller's seem convinced that the 45-65 group will pay the bills and they are alienating the most important age group 25-45. The music the Jazz dancers dance to is horrible, like really you can't do any hip hop, Warrant, Def Leppard, etc? The drill team at my old high school dances more provocative than the Jazz dancers. The overall arena music is horrible, seriously playing soft music from the 70's? When you lay down a couple hundred bucks for tickets you want an overall experience and unfortunately the Jazz are just too cheap to deliver. Greg Miller, the pompous pr**k, said all he cared about was making a profit and not spending much money. I wish there was a group of wealthy investors in Utah that would take the Jazz over and make games worth going to. I would rather fork out 50 bucks for a USU game even if they suck than going to a Jazz game, and that is because a game at the Spectrum is an experience. They play fun music, they get the fans involved, etc.
Ingles is cooked.

That was by far the most pointless, clueless rant I have ever seen in these forums. Thank you for the entertainment.

I think you and I are expecting different things from the ownership group.
I'd like them to invest in things that help produce a better basketball team. You seem to want investment in things to help you produce a better boner.

Underkanter, I think its clear you just have an axe to grind against Mormons. Calling our the Millers' business sense? Really? Also, are the Jazz having a particularly difficult time selling out games? I think ppl definetely want the best experience possible, but I think Jazz games are still the best show in town, and it doesn't make good business sense to go above and beyond if you're still able to fill ur arena, and have good energy there.

Warrant and Def Leppard songs are one of your biggest complaints... oh that is rich. That music is up my alley as well but get real.

Miller's aren't rich enough to piss away money like Paul Allen or the Dolan's in New York or Mr Russia & Jay-Z in Brooklyn. That will never happen. They have to make a profit, if they don't... they don't exist anymore and are gone. It is easy to say, " I am sure a Utah based investment group with deep pockets will buy them." That is what the Sonics thought that they were getting and look how that turned out.
Miller's know you have to spend to make but they also know you don't throw it down the drain for kicks and giggles. They tried spending money remember? How were they repaid? The got bounced in the second round vs the Lakers and their star player only wanted a short contract so he could stick around long enough to piss off the hall of fame coach and then bolt.
What star player did you want them to sign last season? Who is this marquis player that they had a chance to sign and decided against it because they didn't want to spend a penny? I am sure that they would be more than willing to pay out big bucks to any of the top 10 players but you have to realistic man.
If you think that jersey sells are really that important, you are hugely mistaken. The real money is in corporate sponsorship.
