For those who are not aware, we only receive that first rounder from the Sixers two years after the Sixers fulfill their obligations to send a first rounder to the Miami Heat (because of the league rule that you cannot trade your first rounder in consecutiv years). So for example, if the Heat were to obtain the Sixers pick this year, then we would at be able to receive the Sixers pick in 2015 (2 years after).

However, for the Heat to obtain the Sixers pick this year, the Sixers have to make the playoffs, and if they dont, it rolls on to next year, and then the year after that. This is a bit of a shame for us because as of right now, the Sixers are looking to miss the playoffs, meaning the earliest we can get that pick is now 2016. Would have been absolutely ideal for them to JUST make the playoffs this year, and then be a fringe playoff team for a few years so we get a solid pick. Worst case scenario is they do not make the playoffs for 3 or so years in which case we end up with two second rounders.

The same scenario goes for the Lakers 1st round pick we got in the deal.

With the way this scouting staff works, if they are all around in 2017 I would prefer the 2 second round picks instead.

I would like it but I doubt he does. I want to resign Beno Udrih first. He is a very solid PG for a bench role

You would prefer two second rounders to a first? Why?

There is a little more to that as I understand:

Orlando Magic: Receives Philadelphia’s 2015 first-round pick (top-14 protected in 2015-16, top-11 in 2017, top-8 in 2018, second round pick in 2018 and 2019 after) via Dwight Howard trade on 8/10/12. Conveyed two years after 76ers give HEAT first round pick in Arnett Moultrie trade.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/draft-pick-debt/

So we would need them to a playoff team by 2016, then be the 9th worst team in 2018. What I dont understand is how these picks end up turning into 2nd rounders if they aren’t conveyed. This is true of the Lakers pick also:

Orlando Magic: Receive the L.A. Lakers’ 2017 first-round pick (top-5 protected, afterwards 2017 and 2018 second-round picks) via Dwight Howard trade on 8/10/12.

The odds are in our favor on this one. But why not push it back a year if not conveyed? Why do we get punished if it isn’t conveyed? Seems strange.
The 2014 pick between the Nuggets and Knicks will be interesting. Nuggets get the Knicks pick, we get the worst of two. Assuming these teams repeat this year’s performance, that will be 25th pick in the 2014 draft.

So assume we know what is likely next year, our best case scenario is as follows:
2014 first round pick at #25.
2016 first round pick at #15, or 2017 at #12 or 2018 at #9.
2018 first round pick at #6

We could end up with a #6 and #9 in 2018. What prospects are coming out then?! Haha.

I'd like to sign Beno as well. He is a nice guy to have off the bench. What would his going rate be.. like 2 years 3 mill per?

Bmp...man your pessimistic about henny.

Shad & Glen...Thanx for the info. I admire henny for his craftiness and eye for unwanted talent. but those are
Some crazy protections.

The whole gm of the year thing was really overplayed. Might as well have a discussion on whether Vuc will be too rebounder of the year, and the consequences of that.

A question to you all. Who do you think makes the finals finals this year and why?

I propose San Antonio vs Miami.

I think the spurs' consistency and efficiency carries over to the playoffs this year. They have done a better job of resting players this year IMO.

Miami because I can't see anyone in the east bar the Knicks *maybe* best them in a series.

Why should LA get exec of the year? For assembling an underachieving team that might miss the playoffs? And BKN for trading for Joe Johnsons bad contract and a 1st for gerald wallace? Where has that gotten them?

If the Rockets can hang on and make the playoffs, I think Morey should win this year.

No one has said, but he will take his time i am sure.
Woj is the new Bucher. Shams is the new Woj. Espn is the new TMZ. The NBA is the new WWE.

I think you may have to increase it a bit to about 4mill per year. Only because he is coming off making 8mill a season I doubt he goes to 2 or 3 especially with his play quality.

For me and this is just my opinion now but should the draft that we get there 1st round pick not be a deep draft I would not want to be stuck with a Guaranteed contract (i.e. Daniel Orton)

At least with the 2 second round picks you can get a couple of guys and not sign them if you choose to do so.

Morey is a great GM. He rebuilt that squad without being allowed to tank and loaded that team with some good prospects/assets and then got his superstar when the time came. Morey also was one of the only people praising Hennigan and the Dwight trade.

I wonder how long Harris can keep up this level of play. Best player on our team the past 2/3 games.

Does anyone wanna join a 2K13 Online Association for the 360? We're about to start the second season and we need some more users on the West. The only four teams you can't pick are Houston (Taken), Memphis (Taken), Spurs (Has LBJ so we aren't letting anyone join due to his pending free agency), and the Clippers (Has Melo so the same thing as the Spurs).
Not changing this Sig until the Orlando Magic win a championship (Technically Started 1-30-08)

Return to Orlando Magic
