Cheers to a losing club!
Ok, so before you try to bash me because Im new to the forum, let me get some points out there.
The Toronto Raptors are a DISASTER. Only time can fix this team. Unfortunately for us, lots of time will be needed. I have officially stopped watching the raptors for the remainder of the season. If we make the playoffs or not is irrelevant.
The best thing that the raptors might end up doing this season is giving OKC a low first round pick...
This organization is a disaster. Every aspect of it is a disaster. Every single one of us knows it. Yet, we still follow hoping to be in the playoffs (without any hope of going on to the 2nd round). We are disappointed every year. We can't make the playoffs and we can't even tank properly.
POINT 1 - Bryan Colangelo
firebc.com fans, I salute you. This guy continually cripples the franchise. Terrible at hiring staff and handing out contracts. His large contracts automatically marginalize the franchise as we are playing in a cap-based league. Nothing special on the trade front. No long term vision. Drafting has been the best thing we have done in his era (DD, Ed Davis, T Ross all great draft choices)
As long as this guy is at the helm of this club, we aren't going anywhere, period. unfortunately, there is no guarantee he is gone at the end of the season.
POINT 2 - Dwane Casey (not coach casey)
He is not a coach. He has been in this league for over 15 years and he has never had a long term head coaching position. I FULLY understand why the timberwolves fired this man even though he had a 20-20 record with them. This is a man that plays Anderson over Ross and Bargnani over J Val. I could write another essay on him but the previous sentance proves my point.
Don't expect anything special until we have a new coach
POINT 3 - The Mistakes with Long Term Effects
Andrea Bargnani looks like a disaster right now. His trade value reflects this. There were jokes about trading him for a bag of chips. The problem is teams can buy chips for a couple bucks, they wouldn't give chips to take on his 11 million salary. Don't forget, last year before his injury, this man was statistically outperforming Dirk Nowitzki. Now I don't know what will happen with him. If we can trade him, it will be a bunch of scrubs. His value will increase if he is in the right situation and the raptors will be hurt.
Rudy Gay. He is not a max player. His salary is more silly than Landry Fields salary. In a cap-based league, this is a crippling move. He is an inefficient player. He can't score from 3, and can't score in a close-to-the-basket 2. He scores best from the worst place to score. He is a great player. Just not worth his salary by a long shot.
Landry Fields. If we utilize him like this, his salary is crippling.
Demar Derozan. Arguably crippling contract. But he might live up to it.
This team can make it to the first round of the playoffs next year, but thats it. We need every aspect redone. Raptors fans have to deal with this for a couple more years as only time can fix this. With a new (forward-thinking) GM and (actual) Coach, I believe 2015/2016 is the soonest we can start having a better squad. (that year, only demar, JV & T Ross are on contract as of right now)... there are many if's in that statement, so we will probably have to wait longer
THE POSITIVES. JV and Terrence Ross. Unfortunately, our coach would rather give AA and AB burn over them. SO hopefully they develop well on their own.
Im done.

Jonas is still the bright spot of this team--- it was clear before the Rudy Gay trade and even clearer after it.

Yep. Its obvious Colangelo needs to get fired. Worst GM in the game by far, majority of the fan base knows it as well.
Lets hope ownership comes through.

I agree with most of this but calling the Ross pick "great" could not be farther from the truth; it's shaping up as one of the worst gaffes in drafting history.

Even if its a losing club..a club only rivaled by the atrocity which is the bobcats in terms of managerial incompetence and misfortune befalling on a team, it's still my team since 1994, still my team now.
Next year, I'll still be a Raptors fan and hope they make the playoffs, there's new management, we pick up some nice piece or pieces and the coach figures it all out because that's what being a hardcore Raptors fan is all about.

Overexaggeration.
There's plenty of blunders that are worse than the Ross pick and I stand by the notion that Ross wiil be a solid player.
Not in reference to you two, but I wish posters were more consistent in their train of thought (ie. OMG ROSS IS BETTER THAN DEMAR SUPERSTAR!!!! to "ROSS IS HOT GARBAGE WHAT A WASTE OF A PICK") Over a span of a few days to few weeks. And also admit to their mistakes if they made an ill-advised comment which is proven to be false.

Re: Cheers to a losing club!
Ross is a terrific pick. The only player drafted after him that can go farther is Andre Drummond. Would have been a terrible idea drafting him though as we already had Ed Davis and JV at that time.
The problem isn't Ross. Actually, picking Ross has been one of the lone bright spots this season. 5 Years from now, there will be few if any players drafted after Ross that have a better season than him.
THE PROBLEM IS HAVING THE 8TH PICK LAST YEAR! WTF was Dwane Casey SMOKING!?!?!? Why not tank PROPERLY! If we tanked properly last season, we would of had a dion waiters (who scorched us last night), damien lillard, potentially anthony davis, harrison barnes, or any of the other players drafted before Ross. The fact that we were working hard to win games last year shows what type of an idiot he is

The future relies almost solely on this guy. Hopefully he rises to the challenge the way I think he will.

Now that's pretty harsh after half a season...
