I blame this all on Ji...he started the lottery thread which ended up being the lucky charm for winning the John Wall lottery. It was jinxed from the beginning. Curse you Ji!

I hope Wall goes on a hot streak soon but for now I've gave up hope on him improving until this off season. Next year is a make or break year for Wall .We shouldn't offer him a max contract extension this summer and make him earn a new contract. The sad part is Wall will see that as a slap in the face and probably want to leave this franchise asap. EG should be fired for waiting two years to put a decent team around Wall and not bringing in guys to push Wall to greatness.

We all want Wall to succeed but it's on him to do it. He has to put in the work, he has to improve his floor game and jumper. Also he has to have a better attitude as a leader on this team. I think all the media criticism is breaking Wall, Ted and EG need to boast his confidence.

That's just every player's mentality. There's a lot of pride in this game, especially with the pressures of a point guard and a high-level point guard like John. Being young and having that pressure, it can get to you sometimes. Like I said, it's never going to be a perfect night. It's never going to be a perfect night. You're going to go through some bad stretches. It's how you manage those bad stretches and realizing that it's not about yourself, it's about the team, you can usually get over the hump. He's just got to keep chipping away. We all do. We're all victims of it. It happens."

I really hope he is willing to re-sign here at a price that works for the team/mgmt.

I'd have no problem firing his shooting coach, but this is 99.99% on Wall. A jumper is just about the easiest thing to fix. All it takes is time and repetition. Shoot the ball over and over and over again focusing on the right form and making the ball go in the basket. Get 100k makes in an offseason and the new form becomes a habit.

That's the key. Focusing on doing it exactly right over and over.
John may have put in the time and got positive reinforcement for
effort and dedication and still not helped himself (because he was still
doing it wrong and maybe no one had the heart or cajones to tell him).

I'll disagree a little with what you said earlier. Old habits, like broken jumpers,
can be REALLY hard to fix. It could take a whole lot of work and YEARS of time.

AFM wrote:Jesus, these highlights are depressing me. He looks NOTHING like that anymore. First, he looks a lot bigger, I think he's overweight.
He's also completely screwed up his jumper.

I remember the summer after his rookie season, he said that he wanted to change his shot from a set shot to a jump shot. Someone find the interview. He had been watching Derrick Rose's improved jumper and said he wanted to get elevation on his shot. Now he gets elevation, holds onto the ball way too long and shoots it flat. His old jumper (see above videos) wa sway smoother.
He needs to be told he doesn't need to jump high on his shots. Plenty of great shooters barely leave the ground. Look at Paul Pierce.

First word that came to mind was smoother. His entire game was smoother.

If they can't get him to understand what slow down means, maybe they could convince him to play "smoother" Maybe that idea resonates with him where slow down sounds like a bad thing to a quick person.

John plays like he is on cocaine and he needs to play like he just smoked a bowl or he has head phones on playing some smooth Jazz.

Don't have time for anything in depth, but Kidd's 3pt shooting went up significantly in his 2nd season -- .272 as a rookie to .336 in year 2. In his 3rd season -- .370. Those were the years of the shorter 3pt shot. His percentage dropped when they moved it back, then went right back up the following season. He had some fluctuations year-to-year, but he's been a prolific and competent 3pt shooter throughout his career (except for his rookie year).

I do agree that old habits can be hard to break. It can take a lot of work. Wall needs to do that work if he wants to be a good NBA player. Or, he's going to have to become such a student of the game that he can help his team win without a jumper. I do think that's possible, but -- like rebuilding his jumper -- it would take a lot of work.

No matter how I look at it, Wall needs to put in a bunch work on his game if he wants to be a good NBA player. He's not good enough as is.

From wire tap:

Wall Struggling Since All-Star Break
Feb 28, 2013 11:54 AM EST

John Wall has averaged 10.2 points on 29.6 percent shooting along with 4.6 turnovers over his last five games.

“He is going through a rough stretch,” Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. “Whether it’s a game, a stretch, two weeks, a week, 10 days, you’ve got to fight through it. You can’t succumb to it. You can’t feel sorry for yourself about it.”

Wall missed 6-of-9 shots and committed seven turnovers in the Wizards’ 96-95 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Wall sat out much of the fourth quarter and blamed his miscues on teammates being unable to catch his passes.

“I don’t know,” Wall said, when asked about the reason for his seven turnovers. “I think you’re seeing the same thing I’m seeing, so I can’t really call it.”

Nivek wrote:I disagree. The form looks the same, the results were the same. His jumper was broken as a rookie. It was broken last year. Whatever he's done to fix it hasn't worked. To be honest, I don't see enough changed to make me think he's put in serious work on fixing that jumper.

Out of every other post in this thread, this one speaks the truth most succinctly.

Wall has not changed. I agree with Nivek that the evidence that he has worked on his game is not there. I have been talking about the way Wall does not raise his game or compete for two years. The guy made 3 three point shots all season last year. If you look at all his numbers you might recognize one thing: All three seasons he's pretty much been the same.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... ljo01.html

Many have said the Wizards management need to put a team around Wall or this is someone other than Wall's fault. To that I say who put a team around Kyrie Irving or Jrue Holiday? Is Wall better than Ty Lawson? Lawson struggled with the Iguodala acquisition and the trading away of Afflalo. However, how are his numbers now?

John Wall is what he is. Fans are just now seeing it because their expectations are not what they once were. If you had scrutinized Wall's game the past two seasons you would not be surprised, disappointed, or shocked now.

What people need to do is not crucify Wall. The Wizards can still win games to the tune of a 45 or 50-win team with Wall playing as he does.

Wall seems unlikely to me to change unless his work habit changes. He might work hard but I don't see that he works smartly.

Honestly, I'm ready to let it all burn to the ground.

We're building on a foundation that's already crumbling at this point. Okafor, Nene and Ariza are responsible for the defensive shift, and two of them should be gone at the end of next season.

All our other picks other than Beal are trash. Keep Beal and move everyone else including Wall for picks.

Wall just isn't going to figure it out. That much is clear now.

If we could move everyone this summer we'd be in terrific shape in 2014 in terms of prospects.

Maybe we should bench wall let price start. I know its not a popular thing but it make wall more hungry and make him take the game seriously just for a few game he comes off the bench. Aj price has played better the walls last few games sometimes that's what a player needs to get back on track.

The Wizards are in a tough spot regarding Wall. If they trade him now they would surely get an avalanche of criticism for giving up on a young guy so soon. On the other hand if they sign him to an extension they would probably get a lot of flak as well.

Maybe things will be clearer next season.

come on

they should neither actively shop Wall nor bench him ie not start him

but they might listen more actively to offers for Wall
and they (Wittman) might put him on a shorter leash
should he continue to struggle.

I'm looking forward to the 76ers vs wizards game to see how Wall does against Jure holiday. Wall plays the game way to fast he needs to slow it down and make the simple passes don't have to be flashy every play you do. To be a good player its not the fancy plays you make its making the simple passes so teammates can handle it. Its controlling your speed in the game its, ok to be super fast at certain times but not the whole game. Wall needs to focus on making simple plays and not try to be so flashy.

Its easier to trade Wall with the type of talent thats going to be there next off-season.

Moving all of our major pieces is pretty much guaranteeing a better core as soon as a year and a half from now. We'd pretty much be guaranteeing ourselves Jabari or Wiggins due to how bad the team would be.

We're definitely not going to get a better chance than now. We can sell high on pretty much everyone on the team sans Wall. We're talking multiple picks/prospects.

For example: Move Okafor for Perkins + Lamb.

Ariza + Wall will get us a quality 1st this year or next without a doubt.

Trade Nene for picks on a mediocre lottery team and take back some short bad contracts + mid lotto pick.

Get late 1sts/Early 2nd for a combination of Singleton + Book + Vesely.

Suck ass next year, fire Ernie.

All it'd take is one year of tanking to completely change this franchises direction. You could build a new core in 1 offseason.

Good! I said before we should shop wall around to see what we could get and trade him to suns fpr two firsts.

Problem as DMV fans we always overate players. for example thia guy on ES( as you know skins official forum) and this guy names DC lol said Bowen was playing at a high level LOL.

Thats an example our problem is we get hyped up and never think realistic and back our players up way to much.

Since last year i felt Wall wasnt that good hes immature n lazy.
honestly should trade him but for now hes our best PG and we are gonna have to develop him.

But he wont make it he just doesnt have the mentality to reach his full potential.

But good news is beal stepping up and likely would end up our franchise player. Trade wall get a first if top 10 draft Smart and use the other pick on Noell-shabazz-Len- etc.
