Kevin Johnson to announce ownership group today

Post#1 » by blind prophet » Thu Feb 28, 2013 8:35 pm

Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson is determined to keep the Sacramento Kings in California and is prepared to announce who his investors are that could make that happen Thursday night at the State of the City address.

Hopefully we have some great news tonight. I wish I can see it live, but I won't be able to. I probably won't known what happened until around 8 o'clock :(

NBA.com has a link saying the conference is coming up. They didn't give a specific time though.

Should be getting to the Kings portion of the speech shortly. First 30 minutes were about an award, food, art,and education....important only if you're a tax payer in Sacramento.

I'm surprised Chris Webber didn't jump on this opportunity, he was outspoken on this subject. Glad to hear The Rock is coming back to the Sacramento Kings!

So in review..

-20 local group investing a million each, including Mitch Richmond, and will try to buy the 7% from the Kings
-Mark Mastrov will put an offer in for the team
-Ron Burkle will team up with the Downtown Plaza group to build an arena there
-Trying to bring Monarchs back

I'm wondering if the twenty local investors can purchase the 7-percent directly through Cook, or if they must enter a bid via the bankruptcy auction? Can Cook pull out of the auction and sell his shares to who ever he wishes??

With the number one pick in the 2013 WNBA draft, the Sacramento Monarchs Select Brittney Griner from Baylor University. Go Monarchs!

Plus, I don't think the Monarch's would be back until a new arena was built.

I love me some Brittney Griner. I would marry her if she didn't look like such a man.

Edit: To put it simply, she's the Wilt Chamberlain of woman's basketball. Fun to watch her dominate.

Wow KJ really came through! Much of this was expected, but hearing that they want to revive the Monarchs and having MITCH RICHMOND involved are two very interesting twists. The Rock was my first basketball hero and I'm beyond happy to hear that he cares. We always knew that the guys from the Webber era cared, but we rarely heard much from Mitch. It seemed like he was more attached to the Warriors, but I guess this puts that to rest. I'll be wearing my No. 2 Richmond jersey with a renewed sense of pride.

If you're looking for something a little more feminine looking but in that same mold, I hear Josh Boone is available.

Return to Sacramento Kings
