Jeff Teague & Brandon Jennings
Both will be restricted free agents, but looking at the free agent class 2013 they are the best guards available for the Pistons. No chance to get Paul, the free agent options at SG and SF are not that good, at least for legitimate NBA starters.
Why not go after a proven starting PG to help build our young core? I like Knight but i have doubts he is a quality NBA starter, Calderon could be a decent player for the next 2,3 - this can be a decent combo at PG but with Teague and Jennings you got still young talent and they are already NBA proven.
I especially like Teague, he got better every year, (Jennings not so much, 40% FG% is just bad) ....sure they wont be cheap and Atlanta & Bucks can match, but i think its worth a try before you make a move and resign Calderon for example.

I still believe the best way to improve this roster and especially the backcourt should be the trade route, but why not go for these guys if you have a chance?

I pity the team that signs Jennings for whatever he ends up being worth.

I wouldnt mind having Teague, but I think Atlanta will match anything within reason and Id rather sign a vet short term and give BK a little more time to develop than overpay for Teague.

no and no, Knight has a higher ceiling than both. If we are going after a guard, it should be a SG and with size

Teague would be an upgrade, but Atl would match any realistic offer.

I would rather keep Knight...Lets get Knight a good SG and SF then lets judge his play...

I know you want to compare the Knight/Teague here but its different. Teague didn't play much. I think he played like 14 MPG. Knight has played nearly 32 his career. Knight got handed the keys to the car without a license. Teague had to earn his. Comparing the two is not right.

Jennings is the worst type of player to have on your team. Not because he is a chuck first PG, but his attitude is a cancer on any team he ends up on. But, he may curb his attitude on a contending team with vets who put him in his place.

Knight got handed what keys? More like he got his license and is only aloud to drive around the block.

Teague is at Knight's level imo, but more consistent. Knight has a higher ceiling though, Teague has kind of plateaued imo.

Re: Jeff Teague & Brandon Jennings
C'mon man, how is Teague at Knight's level?
Teague averaged 18.3 points and 9.3 assists on 49% shooting last month. Knight has 1 game in his career with 18+ points and 9+ assists.
Not suggesting it's the way forward, but if you are looking to build a playoff team then finding a way to sign Teague & Smith would be a decent start.

^Decent start to mediocrity, considering the max contract Smith would demand

Teague also plays with one of the most offensively gifted front courts in the league + a knockdown shooter in Korver.

Re: Jeff Teague & Brandon Jennings
so you guys wouldnt do a trade Knight for Teague? really? oO
the Pistons won't have capspace like this every year...imo Teague is the best player available at either Guard position in this offseason per free agency, if you can get him do it and worry about Calderon/Knight later.

Very true, let's not forgot Al Horford averages 17 a game...and Josh Smith is a terrific finisher. Anthony Morrow and John Jenkins are also two very good shooters.

So Teague is only putting up good stats b/c of the guys he plays with? That's the same weak argument that everybody had with Harden. I honestly haven't watched him enough this year to form a solid opinion.
Do you think Dumar's plan is to go into 13/14 with a Brandon Knight sized question mark at starting PG? In an ideal world it probably makes sense to give Knight another chance, but I'm not sure we have that luxury. I think that after spending big, there is going to be pressure to win and the switch to Calderon suggests Dumars is looking in a different direction.

Re: Jeff Teague & Brandon Jennings
I don't think Teague/Jennings are any more "true PGs" than Knight. If we are going to get another non-true PG, might as well just use Knight in that role.
After seeing him flourish at SG the last 2 games with a true PG next to him though, its looking like that could be the best formula for Knight to succeed.
He's got a tough test tonight in SA. Knight went off for 30 I think last game vs SA, so you know he will be a main focus of their defensive plan. I'm not going to hold it against him if he has a tough night tonight. But if he has another great game in spite of being SAs main focus, it could go a long way to solidifying him as a legit SG

I'm really warming up to the idea of throwing big money at Teague. He is 11th in NBA in assists/per game (which is slightly less than Calderon, but comparable). He's way younger than Calderon and way better at getting in the paint and creating his own offense. Teague is un-assisted on approx 70% of his field goals, which is top 15 in the league. Spending 10-11m/year on Teague could be way better business than 7-8m/year on Calderon.
I don't see anybody in this thread arguing he isn't worth a big contract:

Teague/Knight (while slightly undersized) could be a really good combo. They can both shoot, which means a player like Smith or Iguadala or even Aminu (for those that want to keep it young and cheap) could fit at SF.
Teague
Knight
Iggy or Smith or Aminu
Moose
Drummond

Screw all of them, try to trade for Rondo.
