What about this plan?
Disclaimer - this is not my wish -- just spitballing a "what if" idea I had while watching the ATL game tonight.
Its no secret Dumars has wanted Josh Smith in the past. What if his plan is to sign Smith in the offseason and trade Monroe? Smith would be a better fit next to Drummond and Monroe would net us a pretty substantial sum from a team needing help at C.
If so, the perfect destination for Monroe = OKC. Would you trade Monroe there for Lamb, PJ3 and the Toronto pick? Is that too much/little for Monroe? OKC becomes:
Westbrook / Jackson / Fisher
Sefolosha / Martin (re-signed)
Durant / Liggins
Ibaka / Collison
Monroe / Perkins / Thabeet
...plus they'd have their own 1st rounder and whatever 2nd rounders they own still to add to that.
If we can get Josn Smith and pull off this trade with OKC - this is what we become:
Knight / Stuckey
Lamb / English / Stuckey
Singler / Middleton
Smith / PJ3 / Jerebko
Drummond / Kravtsov
....plus we'd have our own lottery pick and Toronto's (likely) lottery pick - with which we take best SF available first, and BPA with the 2nd.

Why not just sign Smith to a big time deal this summer, keep Monroe, and draft a SG with our pick who'll probably be better than Lamb?..I think one lotto pick in a weak draft is enough for our team, we currently have 5 rookies already...I'm also not really high of Mr. Jones the 3rd...

Well, was thinking that extra ammo to trade up for Porter or Shabazz wouldn't hurt -- otherwise we're just sitting and crossing our fingers that one falls to us. If they do fall, we take BPA with the 2nd lottery pick.
Knight
Lamb
Porter or Shabazz
Smith
Drummond
Bench: Stuckey, English, Middleton, Singler, PJ3, JJ, Kravtsov

No thanks from both sides. OKC is pretty much only getting Moose for a year. They can't afford to pay him. Moose for unknowns is also not bright. Let's see how Moose does with Drummond up front in 2013-2014.

Re: What about this plan?
whats the possibility of the pistons trading monroe and knight to the 76ers for holiday? if bynum walks out on them i think they would surely look at the trade and if it gets done we can sign josh smith to the 4 spot and we would have our new big 3. drummond smith and holiday
or
chris paul comes to the d and the rest is history because no matter what drummond & monroe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> blake & jordan

Re: What about this plan?
i do like the idea of selling high on moose. i'll admit i have my doubts about him at PF mostly do to his jump shot or lack there of. If we do trade moose, its going to hve to be for a sure star player that can carry our team. unfortunetly there aren't any available

Monroe for Lamb, PJ3 and the Toronto pick?
This is a huge risk, what if they turn out to be busts? We would be thrilled if any of these assets turn out to be as good as Greg. I just don't see how we can trade our best player for guys who haven't sniffed the floor yet.

I'd definitely do that. Josh Smith would be an upgrade over Monroe (sorry guys but it's true). We'd have two lotto picks this year. Lamb and Jones would be good bench pieces. We'd still need to find a way to add a good scoring SF though. I also think Monroe would sign cheaper to be with a young team like OKC. Amenisty CV and buy out Stuckey. We'd be good to go.
Pistons Line-up:
G Brandon Knight / Michael Carter Williams (Lotto Pick)
G Jeremy Lamb / Kim English
F Shabazz Mohammed (Lotto Pick) / Kyle Singler/ Khris Middelton
F Josh Smith / Jonas Jerebko / Perry Jones III
C Andre Drummond / Vychaslov Krastov
That might make me happy

Re: What about this plan?
Josh Smith is a classic underachiever, I would be very frustrated if the Pistons' front office decides to go after him. He is a quality player but I don't think he's worth more than $10M/yr and I expect him to get significantly more than that.
Josh Smith plays very good defense but offensively he has shown both an inability to shoot the three as well as (seemingly) an unwillingness to stop taking it. Besides his rookie year, the only season he shot less than one three per game was 09-10. Not coincidentally, it was also the only year he posted a FG% over 50...But then they fired Woody and he was back to his old ways. This year the problem is worse than ever, with Josh taking 2.5 per game despite shooting 33%. That percentage is his career-high, which is both pathetic and encouraging.
Whoever signs J-Smoove this summer will overpay for him. This is the main reason I would not want the Pistons to get him. Also, he's declined this year, and seems to be a low-IQ player. He relies on his elite athleticism and will be 28 years old next year. He will need to adjust his game to remain effective beyond the next couple years. I'd hate to have him on a big contract while he tries to figure out how to adjust.

I would pay Josh Smith up to $13-14 mil per year. He is more legit than any other free agent on the board and instantly makes this team a contender with the cast they have plus whomever they can sign with that $28 mil. Do it Joe, Just DoooooiiiiiIt!!!

This team is not going to contend next year. Josh Smith won't change that. Unless you're talking about contending for a playoff spot.
My only hope for the Pistons' off-season is that the front office doesn't take on any contracts that will mortgage our future going forward. I hope that they are looking to go all-in a few years from now.

I haven't seen anything from Lamb or PJ3 and I wouldn't do that deal. As others have mentioned, I don't think OKC has the flexibility to extend Monroe either. They would probably ask for Drummond instead.
I think more realistic destinations would be Boston, Houston and maybe Portland. Boston is playing well with Bradley at PG, so a Monroe for Rondo trade could be realistic.

Re: What about this plan?
Imagine if Monroe was making $15 million this year w/ the same production...
Now, would you consider that deal?
I rather roll the dice w/ the youngins than roll the dice of giving moose max dollars. If you have the money to sign some one, you will attract FA's. We can find comparable talent to Moose with 15 mill. He's not even a all-star.

Truth is, there's not much to be excited about with Dre injured.
