Williams-Johnson-Bogans-Teletovic-Lopez Lineup"

156 points per 100 possesions. far and away(30+) our most potent lineup

but yeah, lets not play mirza. especially not with our starters.

Its all about the sample size...

Mriza has played over 20min twice, with the most minutes played in a single game this year being 21:44. He has played 14+min. 6 times and that is with me generously rounding up twice...

You can nick-pick at his game all day long, you can exploit his mistakes all you want (just like Blatche), but those oppose to seeing Mirza play 25+min are truly blind to how he can help us...taking into consideration how the rotations would need to play out so we can provide help both on the glass and defensively when he is in the game is an easy fix, though the way we are playing defense, it really does not matter...in theory, there are a couple of ways to go about it...

I hate redundancy in threads (and there has been a lot of it in threads lately) so I will let you do the reading in previous posts because the examples of lineups are there...

With that said, Mirza has never been given a true chance, at first I thought his game was over rated, but you have seen so many glimpses of what he is capable of on both sides of floor, this is a no brainer...to make things easier I would bench Hump and Marshon for one game and give the minutes to Mirza...and I'm not trying to take a shot at Marshon we'll leave that discussion to the relative thread...

This would put him around 25-30min with the Nets using a 9 man rotation...screw the match up, Mirza is capable of causing match up problems for the opposition...this gives the Nets some extra offense and helps spread floor even more when used w/ Brook...w/ a smaller lineup we should continue to spread the floor giving us the ability to drive the lane easier cause it won't be as clogged...

The talent is there, but we are talking about a NBA rookie who each game probably learns something or has at least one aspect of the NBA game reinforced...If we are not interested in developing new talent, young talent or mixing things up the likeliness of us not making the 2nd round becomes more possible...

I personally would love to see us play Mirza w/ Brook and have Blatche and Reggie come off the bench together as they were playing well together earlier in the season... though I feel we are being a little hard on PJ, his rotations are becoming Avery like and we are not stressing defense enough...but let me stay on topic here...

Mirza needs to be allowed to make mistakes so we can utilize him appropriately...his defense has been spotty, but when he has done an adequate job there has been no carry over, no reinforcement because he plays 2 min the next game...fact is, he has been unable to build on anything...I was personally hard on him in the beginning but you could see nerves and confidence was big part of that...

To me if the Nets are ever going to come full circle with Mirza they have to be willing to experiment with him in line ups where this team can take advantage of his strengths...if PJ and company continue to be reluctant to play him an avg of 20min a game as we've seen already, he has no chance of building on anything this year...

Funny thing is, our defense is so below average I cannot comprehend PJ's fear...that has been the most disappointing part of his interim coaching job as well as the most frustrating part of being a fan this year...

Try something new, mix or change things up enough to say well we at least try that before it is too late...

Is this shocking?

I wish I had a fast forward button for this season, because I know how this story ends.

It won't end well.

Why are we "giving" Mirza anything? He didnt earn playing time. That is under 2 different coaches. When the mandate comes down from management to play him, it splinters the locker room. Giving Mirza playing time has disturbed the team and cost us playoff seeding already.

I dont like Evans but he has earned his minutes through his play in practice and the game. You might not agree with what the team needs but the coaching staff obviously feels it's rebounding and energy. To have the ownership group meddle in player rotations completely undermines a lame duck coach.

People on here go out of their way to point out Evans offensive shortcomings. I dont argue with them because he is a complete liability offensively. But Mirza is just as much a liabilty defensively as Evans is offensively. I point that out because the casual fan can see offensive mistakes easier then defensive mistakes. Mirza does NOT have a high BBIQ. He is always out of position defensively. He seems more concerned with helping others defend then actually defending his guy. Once the ball is reversed, and he is caught cheating to the strongside of a play. the weakside player has an open look or a mismatch from a guard trying to cover for Mirza's mistakes. Greg Anthony has mentioned this about Mirza at least 3 times but no one cares because a 3 pointer is much more exciting then a defensive rotation.

Evans,on the other hand, maxes out his defensive ability. He lacks the athletic ability Mirza has but makes up for it by being in the right place at the right time. People will try to tell you he isnt much better then Mirza defensively but he has the highest defensive rating on the team. I understand the flaws in using advanced metrics, as Im sure will be brought up such as the Nets have the slowest pace in the NBA, but when comparing them to players on the same team they carry more weight because we are comparing apples to apples.

Evan's DRtg/DWS = 101/2.2
Mirza DRtg/DWS = 107/.3

For those who will nitpick I'll use 82games stats vs PFs since Ive seen people reference it as a counterpoint without giving Mirza's numbers to show context.

Evans defense vs PFs / Mirzas defense vs PFs
15.7 PER / 20.2 PER
47.9% eFG / 58.7% eFG
8.8 Reb allowed / 13.3 Reb allowed

When you look at advanced metrics, it's not even close when talking about who the better defender is.

As far as who should start, I say neither Evans or Teletovic. People take my disdain for Teletovic as an endorsement for Evans. It is not. I feel similarly about both. I agree that floor spacing is a problem with the starters but that's more of a SF problem then a PF problem. Most PFs in the NBA arent stretch 4s, they play in the post. Evans lack of offense isnt as big of a concern as Wallace's inability to contribute from the perimeter because Evans is still a threat to get offensive rebounds.

I would like to see Blatche and Bogans as the starting fowards. Andray Blatche is one of the top 4 players on the team and should be getting 30+ minutes a night. This is the biggest mistake the Nets have made all season. Also Bogans has been the most consistent shooter outside of JJ and his defense has been just as good as Wallace's. Unlike Mirza, Bogans has earn his playing time and should be given the first crack at being the floor spacer with the starting unit.

every question PJ fields the rest of the season from reporters should be either:

why does evans still starting?

or

why isnt teletovic starting?

they should just keeping asking that and only that until pj walks out. there is not acceptable awnser. what other team starts a guy making the vets minimum over a guy making 12M and a guy you gave the MLE to?

Outside Bondy none of them have the balls to do this and Bondy enjoys trolling the fan base too much to constantly do this, although I was told he somewhat put the screws to PJ after the game last night, but I didn't watch the post game so I can't officially comment on it.

And even Bondy believes PJ has done a great job and has crossed the line from reporting and investigating to giving his opinion and campaigning. Whatever, he's a local beat and he's on Twitter, that's fine. I prefer that to a fluff piece robot, but then expect to be attacked from all angles from people who's opinion clashes with yours and stop using the "Well PJ and the staff are the professionals so they know more then you, herp derp dippity doo!" routine as your validation, as if professional sports at the highest level aren't continually rife with bad coaches and front office execs who ruin seasons and even franchises as a whole.

Al is the one who would have been all over this, maybe Kerber as well. Even Beck for the most part, although because of his association with the Association, he may have backed off a little.

But Bontemps? Boone? Mazzeo? No way.

Guys like Devin would probably do it if given the chance, but IDK.

Greg Hrinya would, but he's literally too small time to if he even has media credentials because they'd probably have him banned from post games or just ignore his questions all together.

its pretty infuriating... the worst part is, mirza isnt given minutes early enough in close games to even force PJ's hand to leave him in, or take him out while being hot early leading to legit questions on why he was removed.

i may have to spend whatever it takes to get a seat behind the nets bench next home game and grill him myself until i get ejected from the arena.

Man I remember a game way back, the last year VC was here. It was against Portland and I got some pretty good lower level seats cheap off Stub Hub. My friend and me went to the game and Portland started mounting that furious comeback in the 4th, Jarydd Bayless was just going off and every time it got quiet or there was a timeout I would yell at the top of my lungs "Fire Frank dot com! We want Opie gone!" and stuff similar to that. I was behind the away team's bench though and they were getting a good chuckle out of it as was most of the section I was in. Towards the end of the 4th when the collapse was basically complete Opie called a timeout and it was dead **** ing silent in the Arena, you could hear a pin drop. And I yelled out "Fire Frank dot com! Fire Opie! Opie you're awful!" I'm like 5 rows up from the court but pretty far from the Nets bench and Frank just snaps his neck around and shoots me lazers from like 100 feet away and a couple of the players in the Nets huddle were snickering and ****, looked like they were trying to hold in their laughter and simultaneously had a look of "Welp.." The red coat valets were **** ing dying in my section, I swear one gave me a discreet high five, everyone around me is dying. It was great.

Edit: Just went back and found the game thread lulz. I remembered Opie shooting me rocks, but it seems Nate McMillan was the one dying with me lol.

Opie definitely gave me the death stare from across the court though, I was pretty tuned up at the game IIRC, somehow didn't mention that in the thread haha.

well done.

im not sure it would work on PJ, he probably wouldnt even know it was directed at him he is so fcking clueless...

which still, i cant grasp. the guy has coached forever. in college, pros, the dream team. he has been around great executives, great coaches, great players for like 40 years. yet he cant recognize that reggie evans shouldnt be starting?

id love to believe the conspiracy "he is sabotaging us" thing... but i dont buy that, its so easy to do it as a coach he could do it much worse while still keeping his job.

Kurt Rambis agrees:

Kurt Rambis, the former Timberwolves coach --and an acolyte of Phil Jackson-- went on ESPN Thursday morning and talked about what he thinks the Nets should do to help them turn things around.

He sounded like a NetsDaily poster.

Rambis said that P.J. Carlesimo had already done one thing he thought was necessary, remove Kris Humphries from the rotation. He also said that Carlesimo should play Mirza Teletovic (whose name he badly mangled) to "stretch the floor" and take Reggie Evans out of the starting line-up because he is such an offensive liability.

So, that is now another former coach that thinks Mirza should be used.

Oh Kurt "I sucked as a coach" Rambis spoke. He must be preaching gospel. Funny how I didnt see his name mentioned once as Avery's replacement by any Nets fans. There is a reason he hasnt coached in the NBA in a while.

No doubt DWILLoftheGODZ made a post for the ages which in some form took away from another person's perspective due to him having a different opinion of his.

Anyway it's good that people who are involved or have been professionally in basketball starting to see what most of us have been saying.

Hey Mr Excuses

Mirza shoots 1 of 5 vs the worse team in the NBA playing with the starters the majority of the minutes. How do you explain that?

I thought he would score 50 and prove me wrong. Im still waiting.

Too bad this isnt soccer, then maybe you would have a clue. Kurt Rambis is 56-145 as a head coach. I wouldnt take his advice if he paid me.

If you want to take stats and skew them, Evans is shooting 30% over the last 30 days with all, but two shots outside the paint. Mirza on inconsistent minutes is 35% with shots taken all over the floor.

Weird stats aside, I still don't see how you could continue to bash Mirza while clearly overlooking Evans's horrible play.

mirza shot 1-5 of, shot poorly and was STILL the SAME +7 that reggie evans was.

mirza doesnt need to be red hot to benefit the offense. he ALWAYS makes the correct and extra pass. several times he passed an open wing 3 to get the guy in the corner an even better look. he spaces the floor. he pentrates and kicks. just being on the floor, we are much better
