I like the pick up of Plata. I based my criteria a lot on the speed of Findley and Plata. Lets just hope they can finish with the best of them.

I forgot about Moralas and his new injury, that could be a couple much needed wins for ReAL. But it will be fun to see how the new midfielders step up a la Velasquez. I got my eye on Alvarez. And I am wondering about their top draft pick two years ago in Martinez. I"d like to see some minutes for him to see how he does.

I think your right about the new ownership. Just from the highlights and clips I saw of his responses made me go hmmmm, is this guy ready for this ownership? I hope he has some good management below him. And I hope Checketts put in some good management processes to sustain their past success.
Go ReAL!

Hard to believe MLS is getting going again. The final was on Dec. 1. I can see why Donovan is heading for Cambodia. That's a long year and a very brief off season.

Union going to roar back this year with Casey and le toux.

I think TFC may have brought out their captain today.

What an unstable franchise...

Frings likely returning to Germany to coach.

Picked up tickets for the 3/23, 3/30 & 4/14 Dynamo home games.

Four tickets to each. Combined price less than 4 tickets to one Texans game this year!

The Cascadia Cup region sure is a hotbed for soccer. Should be some great battles between Vancouver/Seattle/Portland this season.

Frings Announces Retirement

Toronto FC Captain Torsten Frings announced Tuesday he is retiring after 18 seasons as a professional football player.

Frings, 36, signed with Toronto FC on June 29, 2011, and went on to make 46 appearances, scoring two goals and adding three assists in all competitions for the club. On August 2, 2011, he was named the fourth captain in club history.

“During preseason we discovered that my recovery would take longer than expected. I always want to do what’s best for the team and that is why I have decided to step away,” said Toronto FC Captain Torsten Frings. “I really enjoyed my time in Toronto and playing for Toronto FC. I wish the club all the best this season and hopefully they can continue to embrace the winning spirit that I brought to the team.”

Frings scored his first goal in Major League Soccer in a 3-0 victory over the Impact in Montreal on June 27, 2012. The veteran midfielder was hampered by injuries throughout the 2012 season and in September he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his hip, ending his season.

During his time with Toronto FC, Frings played a key role in the club’s run to the semi-finals of the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League and won the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship, which marked the fourth consecutive Canadian title for the club.

“Everyone is sorry that Torsten will be unable to lead our team this year but the injury he had often requires a lengthy period of rehab, and that is the case here,” said Toronto FC President and General Manager Kevin Payne. “We appreciate Torsten’s commitment to Toronto FC and are pleased he has agreed to work with us, particularly in Europe, on future projects. We part as the best of friends and wish him nothing but the best.”

The Würselen native, earned 79 caps for Germany in his career and played in two FIFA World Cups including Germany’s run to the 2002 Final. Frings was also part of Germany’s second place finish at UEFA Euro 2008.

Brian Ching has signed to play one final season with the Dynamo before retiring after the upcoming season. He will also serve as an assistant coach.

Ching is the franchise leader in goals (69) and is a six-time MLS All-Star.

Do you honestly think he has much left in him?

I have more hope for him as a coach, to be honest. I do think that he can be a pretty good veteran presence to have around the squad.

Huge Union fan and Le Toux supporter. Glad our club brought him back. What a fitting way to make his second Philadelphia debut punching in the first MLS goal of the season. C'mon the U!

Awesome to have you here UncleDrew.

Union are unfortunately falling behind at this point. How do you think the season will play out for them?

From the looks of it both Toronto and Vancouver will again struggle this season.

Too many unknowns for both teams right now.
