The Way Forward for our Kings

Post#1 » by perezident » Sun Mar 3, 2013 3:32 pm

Hey guys, haven't been posting at all like that and this new development about our kings with the pending sale negotiations etc, just made me even more wary to post. However, I was thinking once things settle and in our favor (hopefully) what is the way forward?

Who would you want to be team general manager assistant general manager for the team? Would you want Geoff Petrie back? Would you support a coaching staff change? Who would you want to be the new head coach?

For me, Id want Kevin Pritchard as General Manager and Kenny Smith/Rich Cho as the assistant. Coach, I want Mike Dunleavy/Jeff Van Gundy. With a staff of:
Terry Porter (Lead Assistant)
Paul Silas
Valde Divacs (Big Man Coach)
Bobby Jackson

Would Petrie be a different, more productive GM with out the Maloofs forcing him to make awful deals?

I feel like he'd be a better GM without the Maloofs, obviously; but I want no part of him. This team has had no direction for years, and I'm not sure how much we can blame the Maloofs for these terrible trades and signings. He has still proven he has an eye for talent via the draft. I feel we need a fresh start.

Head coaches I'd be interested in would be the Van Gundy brothers, but I doubt they would be interested in us. SVG already shunned us once, and for good reason.

I want no part of Mike Dunleavy.

Why not? Mike is a stellar coach imo. What's the issue with him?

He's had well-documented issues with underachieving teams (Blazers). He's had issues managing star players and their turbulent personalities, which is the main reason he got fired by the Blazers two years after winning COY award.

I think Petrie is done. If he isn't let go, then he would probably retire on his own.

Aside from from the roster, I think Matrov wants to cleanse the entire franchise of anything and everything Maloof. Not only will this allow him to start fresh and do things his way, but it will be a clear statement to Kings fans that the Maloof era is OVER.

Who he hires I have no idea. I think he'll embrace the league-wide trend towards analytics more than Petrie. I also have a weird crazy feeling that Magic Johnson might become part of the organization. He's close to Matrov and has recently been vocal on twitter hoping that the Kings stay.

One thing for sure is that both Matrov and Burkle are VERY well-connected and shouldn't have trouble getting the kinds of people they want working for them. It's one thing that I think gives us a significant advantage over the Seattle group.

I think that, while the Maloofs garner a lot of blame rightfully so, they are often blamed too much for the current state of the roster. We don't know how much of this is their doing and how much of it is, Petrie's, but I have to think a decent chunk of it is on Petrie.
