Clutch shot, but yeah, I would definitely agree this was an aberration. Even with that same shot selection, on a normal night he probably finishes with like 26 points.

I love the point padding by Lebron at the end here, it's a Kobe special. It's too bad that he doesn't ever do this during his big scoring nights.

This and the Portland game were clearly Lebron's two worst games of the season, but he still finished with 18/8/10/2/1 with just 1 TO and 47 TS%.

Will probably kill his PER, I'm guessing it will dip down to about 31.6?

Miami managed a 113.6 ORTG (about 112 without the 4 FTs at the end) against a 99.8 Memphis defense. That's +13.8, which is BETTER than what we've seen out of them over the last 21 games, and still, you know they played a down game.

Lebron was just missing shots that he typically makes tonight, he missed several buckets right at the basket, didn't make a single shot from mid-range and even airballed a wide-open three. Memphis's defense was great, but this was more an off night for James than anything else.

It's almost like the basketball Gods were like, "That's enough domination, LeBron" and put a lid over the basket . There were a couple of jumpers that just spun in and out

Quick calculation tells me 31.72, I'd put money on it jumping over 32 after Sunday's game. But this is exactly the issue with PER, his defense was still excellent today (as it's been all season long) and his creation was just as good as it usually is. Miami still put up a very strong offensive showing against a -6 defense, and despite his struggles from the field, he was a large part of why they were able to do so.

PER's fun to track, but I don't think its ever been a point in my mind for or against any player.

I am expecting him going berserk in the MSG. He is not going to have 2 bad games on the national TV and MSG has not seen a 50 for almost a week. PER needs to rise back where it have been.

Oh definitely, the attention he drew still helped his team enormously. And yeah, PER has its flaws, I don't put too much stock into it - it'd just be cool to see the record broken.

I'd also bet on him having a good game Sunday, he has plenty of motivating factors - he'll want to make up for his poor game tonight, want to beat the Knicks after losing to them twice by double digits, and of course, his usual MSG swag.

The funny thing is, I bet a few months from now, if you asked LeBron what his favorite game was this season, it'd probably be this. He had a similar game against Orlando last year and in a Sports Illustrated column he said that was his best game that season.

Struggling to finish shots again (from everywhere, not just at the rim), but his off-ball activity has been fantastic today. I expect him to come out and have a strong second half, outside of the 2nd OT against Sacramento, he's been pretty mediocre in the last 5 games, he needs to bounce back at some point.

My life flashed before my eyes on that JR Smith lob play. That's exactly the way plenty of players wreck their knees, the replay looked bad, but Lebron just isn't human.

Lebron starting to get it going a little in the 2nd half, but he's been off since the allstar break. I'm confident he'll get back to form though.

Uh oh, seems like FT shooting is an issue for Lebron right now. He's changed up his routine and has shot poorly the last couple games, always a sign that he's about to go through a slump.

I'm so impressed by Lebron's jumper this season. Even on nights where he's off with his shot, he manages to knock down at least a few before the game's over. He just never has those 0-for games on jumpers anymore.

Wade has done too much ball handling down the stretch in recent games, seems like he's had it in his hands more than Lebron. Doesn't really make sense to me, he's just flat out not as good as Lebron handling and creating.

the most amazing thing about LeBron to me is that he can visibly be having a mediocre game, missing shots he normally makes, shots rattling out, bricking a lot of jumpers, missing FT's... and he STILL finishes the game having an overall incredibly effective game.

His defense has been phenomenal as of late, as well.

He realized that the jumper was the KEY to beating the defense, and once he figured that out, he dominated the rest of the game with some incredibly sound basketball. My only criticism would be his occasional passiveness. Would've liked to see him control the offense a bit more. His teammates really sucked today outside of Battier.

Wade finished with 20/8/8 on 50% shooting, it wasn't just Battier.

As for LeBron, he's looked too passive to me lately, sometimes he gets in that mode where he wants to be the chessmaster and sit and pick apart the defense, he's holding the ball for too long, needs to react quicker instead of giving the defense time to set up. It doesn't matter if you have a mismatch if there's only 10 seconds left on the shot clock and their whole defense is in position waiting for you.

I actually thought he had a great game even by his standards. The Knicks were 2-0 against them and love to play hard against the Heat (but who doesn't, really?), and he showed up big time in the fourth after coming back from almost being blown out. Melo was a non factor in the last 5 minutes and lebron ended the game with an exclamation mark. In the Garden, this is what you wanna see.
