Shabazz is so skilled. He scores in many different ways. Might be one of the most skilled players in the country.

Re: NCAA Basketball Thread / 2013 Draft Targets
I'm starting to like a lot of players in this draft...I don't see much for superstar talent...but a lot of all-star type talent, which would be huge for us with Rubio/Love already on board.
McLemore, Oladipo, Marcus Smart, Noel, Shabazz, Otto Porter are guys I've had a chance to look into more and more and I think they could be very good NBA guys. Only one I wouldn't want with our team is Smart.

I'm actually starting to think I would like Smart here.

He's a point guard tho.

Re: NCAA Basketball Thread / 2013 Draft Targets
I'm thinking maybe it's possible to trade the draft pick (hoping it's high enough) with Utah for Gordon Hayward. He's not starting and maybe they have a need they can fill with a high pick.
Hayward can really ball and has a very low contract (2$ million). Resign Pekovic of course and it all depends on wether Kirilenko will continue or not.
P.S.: in my opinion the only SG I'd go for no matter what is McLemore (but he's gonna be top 2 pick for sure). Shabazz and Oladipo raise some questions, while Hayward is solid and a very good 3P shooter.

So sell a high draft pick for a guy that isn't starting? No thanks. Is Hayward that much different than Budinger? I'm not sure.

I think Utah is pretty high on Hayward, too. The Jazz are going to be very interesting to watch in the offseason they have, I think, nine players becoming free agents.

Re: NCAA Basketball Thread / 2013 Draft Targets
The thing is Hayward is 5th in PER among shooting guards playing 27 minutes per game (above O.J. Mayo for example). He's very young (22), has a really good contract (2$ million per year), excellent catch & shooter, excellent 3 point shooter (39.7%), free throw shooter (83.5%), and is averaging 14 ppg.
This team is not a lottery team if injuries don't happen. That's how odd this year situation is. This team, 100% healthy, is a play-off team no matter what (even if the coach is an amaeba).
Correcting the Roy mistake, and keeping with the good men in the roster, we have a starting five with Rubio - Hayward - Kirilenko - Love - Pekovic (and good rotation with Barea or Ridnour, Shved, Budinger, Cunningham). Doesn't look bad on paper.
I was hoping Utah bites if we have a high pick and there's some player in this draft they're eager to commit to, and as they're not starting Hayward... who knows? The thing is we need a starting SG. And if somebody picks McLemore before us I don't know why we shouldn't try to trade the pick for a SG (i'm not convinced on Oladipo and we don't need to gamble, 100% injury free this team is very good. And Hayward is solid).
P.S.: Budinger is a small forward, Hayward is a shooting guard.

Combo guard.
At first I was hesitant for the same reason, but after thinking about it, it would be a good pick to make, especially considering all the 2 PG lineups Rick likes to run. Smart could play either alongside Ricky or he could easily run the team on his own too.

Re: NCAA Basketball Thread / 2013 Draft Targets
is he really that attached to a 2 pg lineup though, or does he just go w/ it in absence of quality depth at sg?
I'm thinking a quality pair of starting and backup SGs would be the end of any dual pg lineups

Re: NCAA Basketball Thread / 2013 Draft Targets
I think Marcus Smart is somewhat of a combo guard. At the very least he is more suited to play SG than either Ridnour or Barea. I like him as a player but would rather pick McLemore or Oladipo if all three were available.

Rod Strickland and Terry Porter
Jason Williams and Tony Delk
Jason Williams and Bobby Jackson
Mike Bibby and Bobby Jackson
Steve Francis and Aaron Brooks
Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry
Ricky Rubio and Luke Ridnour
Ricky Rubio and JJ Barea
Sure, maybe it's because of a lack of depth, and these weren't all his primary lineups, but after a while you have to notice a tend with his teams.

What's up with Smart's shooting %''s?? I don't get how a guy with those #'s and position ?'s can be so highly regarded.

That's really the only question mark surrounding him.

i'm not exactly keen on guards who can't shoot. it doesn't help that the team hasn't shown a lot of consistency from the perimeter either.

Re: NCAA Basketball Thread / 2013 Draft Targets
I see a Rodney Stuckey with better potential mixed with a smaller/higher BBIQ Tyreke Evans. Not a bad talent but certainly not good enough for us.
We need a McLemore or Shabazz.

As a freshman Stuckey averaged over 24 points per game and shot: .490/.372/.760

Yeah but Stuckey played in a turd conference.
IIRC, Stuckey also had some leadership/intangible question marks, where Smart will be one of the better ones in the class for that.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
