Tim Ohlbrecht signed for remainder of season

Post#1 » by call.me.dude » Sat Feb 23, 2013 2:55 am

Is it true? A lot of german twitter people who usually know their stuff are saying he was offered a 10 day contract by the Celtics but rejected it because he has an offer from the Rockets for the remainder of the season.

For those of you who don't know this, he plays for your D-League team. 6-11 athletic guy from Germany who used to be finesse (stretch 4) but now seems to play aggressive and switched to the C position. Averages around 14/7 iirc.

I haven't heard anything, but he's been putting in some serious work with the Vipers this season. Wouldn't surprise me.

I could see it... he has been good for RGV, and was an All Star, a lot of good players on that team.

He's a scrub. At least that's what my brother always said after he went to Frankfurt Skyliners games.

Good luck with him, though.

If he is able to combine the Tim Ohlbrecht of old (finesse game w/ 3pt shooting) with the supposed "new" Tim Ohlbrecht (hustling, hard working, looking for contact) he could be solid. If not, he's not an NBA player.

It is no longer a rumor.

Rockets Sign Tim Ohlbrecht from Rio Grande Valley
Tyler Honeycutt Assigned to Vipers

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed center Tim Ohlbrecht to a multi-year deal. Ohlbrecht, who comes to the Rockets via Houston’s single-affiliation NBA D-League partner the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, marks his first-ever Gatorade Call-Up to the NBA. In addition, the Rockets formally announced the assigning of forward Tyler Honeycutt to the Vipers.

Ohlbrecht (6-11, 255, Germany) has averaged 13.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.63 blocks in 32 games (29 starts) with Rio Grande Valley this season. He was also named a 2013 NBA D-League All-Star, registering 12 points (6-9 FG) and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Prospects in a 139-125 win over the Futures squad. At the time of his signing, Ohlbrecht led the D-League in field goal percentage (.605, 164-271 FG) and stood 13th in the league in blocks per game (1.63).

A member of the German National Team, Ohlbrecht has also competed internationally with Bayer Leverkusen (Germany-BBL, 2005-06), Brose Baskets Bamberg (Germany-BBL, 2006-09), Telekom Baskets Bonn (Germany-BBL, 2009-11) and Skyliners Frankfurt (Germany-BBL, 2011-12).

Honeycutt (6-8, 188, UCLA), who was acquired by the Rockets from Sacramento on Feb. 20, averaged 0.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 3.6 minutes per game over nine contests with the Kings this season. He was selected by Sacramento after his sophomore year out of UCLA with the 35th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Will provide the link when I find it...from CF though obviously.

Anyone seen him play?

Ohlbrecht sucked in Germany because he used to be soft as hell. Too often struggled with confidence issues. Not quite strong enough physically, either. Wasn't very mature.

He's gotten a bit bigger. Confidence doesn't appear to be (much of) an issue anymore and he should have matured some.

I don't hate this signing. Ohlbrecht always had the tools to be a bench player in the NBA. Might still have to get a bit stronger, but he's unlikely to get (consistent) minutes anytime soon, anyway.

From what I heard he always had a poor work ethic and I doubt that has changed much because people dont change overnight. :dontknow:
I doubt he'll be any good considering he was a bench player in a league in which Bostjan Nachbar is a superstar.

Pretty much what i was going to post as i have seen him play numerous times here in germany. Maybe he has changed a bit, just don't expect too much out of him. I might add foul trouble as a problem he was well known for.
too many urkels on your team, that's why your wins low

Well, Gortat was a bench player in Germany, too.

But yeah, Olbrecht indeed was said to have poor work ethic, though I think all of issues were simply related to being not very mature.

Not sure if this is still the case, but I heard he enjoys the night life quite a bit.

We'll see. If he pans out, great. If not, oh well. Worst case scenario he's a trade filler.

We really just need him for about 10 minutes/6 fouls. If he develops into a solid player then he is on a very nice, tradeable contract. Another one of those Morey standard 3-year deals with the last two as team options.

So does he get waived for Brooks to sign?

id say Honeycutt...we need a 3rd center more than we need him

lin/bev/brooks
harden/Garcia/brooks
parsons/delfino/Garcia

WAY STRONGER THAN

motie/delfino/robinson/jones/never gonna play this season white
asik/smith/motie

3rd center that has been tearing up the d-league this year big time>Honeycutt who has been in the d-league since hes been drafted
