Evidently, you missed Tyrus's first season here. The one that got him his ridiculous contract.

He didn't even impress me much that year at all. Had a couple of pretty good games, but nothing that made me think, "Hey let's keep this guy on a long-term deal." In fact I was unhappy we gave up a 1st round pick even after that one decent half-season. Not once can I remember being happy with him for a stretch of games at one time.

Yet you want to trade our over all best player for a player who hasn't shown the over all versatility that Tyrus had at that time. Interesting. :-P

We should have just cut tyrus than let him rot like this.

The only disappointments are trading for him and then signing him to a big deal. We should've amnestied him the day we were allowed to.

What pisses me off is not amnestying him this past summer and created cap space had we done so, we may have replaced Cleveland in this trade and gotten some good talent for nothing and a first round pick.

Memphis sent big man Marreese Speights, guards Wayne Ellington and Josh Selby, and a future first-round draft pick to the Cavs for forward Jon Leuer.

this is a great point jgib. this summer we debated whether or not we should amnesty tyrus if we didnt have anyone to sign with the freed up money. some posters *cough* crunk, were very adamant that there was no point to amnesty him if we werent going to use the money to sign a free agent. that cavs trade proves how valuable having an extra 8 mil in cap space could have been at the deadline.

Did I hear he still counts toward the salary floor even if amnestied? If that's the case then I don't know why the hell he is still on the roster.

Hope that he would rebound into an adequate role player was thinking I believe. His salary can count towards the floor if we choose for it to do so.

I really hope we do amnesty him this summer.

I think this was the reason that he has not been amnestied yet, because we need his salary to count towards the floor. But I agree he is likely gone this summer. With all of the teams trying to avoid the new expanding luxury tax, and the amount of capspace we have I am sure something interesting will happen this summer.

Amnestied playes do count towards meeting the salary floor.

See Larry Coon's FAQ link below if you would like to read it.

With Gordon on the books and only one of Mully and Henderson, we should be at the cap floor even without TT correct? I would think so.

If Hendo accepts the QO we should barely make it with rookie salary, rookie scales etc.

I think we'll have 10-14m in cap.

I reckon they were hoping he would have shown enough to be able to be traded.

But he hasn't even been good enough for that.

Why has Tyrus Thomas been a bust?

Post#120 » by BobsBuddy » Wed Mar 6, 2013 4:05 pm

 :x  I see where TT was left at home on this last Road Trip and seems now to be on permanent IR.
I really wonder What or Who got into this guys head to get him to this point. Coming out of the draft the Bulls saw allot of upside in him and later the Bobcats saw something to offer such a long big contract. He looks like he has lost allot of weight and acts like he doesn't care anymore. Probably now there is noway to trade him without including a starter and unprotected 1st. I don't know what it would cost to Amensity him to use part of the money to sign someone like Al Jefferson or Milsap this offseason, but it needs to be done. Now the same problem seems to have started with Gordon. Watch the TV Film of his Facial expressions around Dunlap. TRADE HIM as soon as possible while he still has value. Otherwise next year he will be another TT. :-?
