a thought for next year/phil speculation (merged)
Will Lakers fire MDA and try at Phill one more time..and also...how young can our team get next year..lets say we keep nash and kobe get rid of pau and MWP..duhon is also gone..that leaves us with no bench excpt meeks and blake(which i also think is going to go)..we can sign some valuable free agent and have a deep bench like the clippers maybe..with that said i dont see anybody stoping us next year..dwight will be healthy kobe is kobe and nash can always contribute

Re: a thought for next year
Problem is even if we just sign Dwight, with Kobe and Nash there isn't really any cap room left to sign free agents of real talent. I don't see us being able to build a super deep squad unless a lot of guys want to take big pay cuts. Also if a good player is ring chasing and willing to take a pay cut, have the Lakers shown much this year to build confidence in their chances.
Until Kobe and Pau's contracts come off the books the Lakers hands are pretty tied. I think we should expect a very similar team... But here is to fingers being crossed.

Re: a thought for next year
The only way I see our team being significantly different next year is if we trade Pau for some younger pieces. Earlier in the year I'd have been all over such a deal but I've changed my thinking just a bit. If Pau's awful play earlier this year was 100% due to his foot issues and those problems won't likely be an issue next year we might be better off keeping Pau as we're never going to get equal value in trade for him. Equal in the sense we get back talent similar to what we're giving out when Pau is fully healthy. The key obviously is gettin Pau healthy again.
Of course if Pau's poor play earlier in the season was due to something other than Pau's feet I hope we ship him far away for anything some sucker errr team is willing to give up.
Also, with the emergence of Earl Clark we have some flexibility with Jordan Hill. If we amnesty Metta and sign Clark we might be able to move Hill for a young wing defender. (Wishful thinking maybe)

If Phil comes back, Pau goes back to being the most valuable big in the league.

Question about Phil
How would the current roster, fully healthy, with Phil running the Triangle, stack up against the top teams in the NBA. Its hard for me to believe that a front court of Dwight, Pau, Hill, Clark, and Jamison- PLAYING A SLOW PACE TRIANGLE, NOT TURNING THE BALL OVER- would not be able to completely dominate a front court like LeBron and Bosh, or Melo and Tyson or Splitter and Duncan. Slowing the pace and playing the triangle, eliminates turnovers, opponents fast-break opportunities, and increases our offensive efficiency, giving us even more time to get back on D.
How do you think Phil's program would stand up to today's small ball?

Nothing about Phil's philosophy lessened in efficacy from 3 years ago: good ball movement, exploiting the weak side, spacing the floor, etc etc. Extracting value from the front court and building a competent defense. All sound principles. They'd remain effective now.

Are you denying that Dan Tony's system creates more turnovers for us and thus more fast breaks for the opposition?

i say you keep the same team together and bring in phil. our bench when healthy is fine, we've never had a deep bench in the last 10 years anyways.

My physician tells me I can't talk about D'Antoni because of my blood pressure. My attorney advises the same, because it's bad for innocent and unassuming property in my vicinity when I do...

I think it's interesting that D'Antoni wasn't able to bring in Raja Bell... I fully agree with the decision...
But it could mean something... Or it could mean nothing. We won't know until sometime this summer.
I could definitely see Phil coming back. I've always thought Dr. Buss was the biggest road block rather than Jimmy.

bell and jazz never agreed to a buy out, lakers/d'antoni had no decision to make.

Reports were that Bell wouldn't agree to a buyout until he had his next contract lined up. Presumably that was going to be the Lakers.

Lakers mgmt didn't want Bell so he never agreed to a buyout.

Dave McMenamin @mcten
This Lakers season gets more and more interesting: Dwight Howard says Phil Jackson has been texting him words of support about his back

Phil needed to be the coach; the Lakers were quite moronic for hiring MAD.

Let's just face it the Laker ownership chose Dantoni knowing he lessened the chances of winning... They just figured this team was going to be so great it would more than compensate for that the amount Dantoni is inferior to Jackson. In their minds Jackson would give this team a 95% chance to win, while Dantoni still gives you 90% (with style).
They chose style over winning and got neither. The Lakers have been abosuletly no Showtime and I have no problem with a "boring" offense if it is winning. Wins are the most entertaining to me.

I hope you realize most of what you said is strictly a pipe dream right ?KOBEbenBRYANT wrote:Will Lakers fire MDA and try at Phill one more time..and also...how young can our team get next year..lets say we keep nash and kobe get rid of pau and MWP..duhon is also gone..that leaves us with no bench excpt meeks and blake(which i also think is going to go)..we can sign some valuable free agent and have a deep bench like the clippers maybe..with that said i dont see anybody stoping us next year..dwight will be healthy kobe is kobe and nash can always contribute
The Lakers aren't going to pay 3 coaches at one time
The Lakers don't have much money to sign a "valuable free agent"
Duhon won't be that easy to get rid of
Now how is this suppose to go again ?

if we amnesty artest we can sign someone for 7-8mil...and i don't think lakers care about money when they signed a 3 billion dollar contract and its and true..and we also get rid of gasol along with blake for younger pieces
thats leaves us with dwight max contract kobe huge contract and nash contract and we will prbly sign clark for 5mil for 2 years or something like that..i know its longshot but im pretty sure lakers can pull it off
