Re: UFC 162: Silva v. Weidman (July 6th)
gah.. i thought it was going to be a super fight in nyc. oh well. weidman is the most deserving contender right now.
by mmath, both silva and weidman defeated maia via UD, so this fight should go to a draw!! =)
weidman is a good fighter, and i will be rooting for him as he is from ny.
however, i predict silva via dominant UD. NO FINISH!!

Brave man. Silva has some of the weirdest, sneakiest power I've seen. He manages to hit guys square from every conceivable angle. Jabs, knees from clinch, flying knees, front kicks to the face, whatever. Never knocks guys out cold, doesn't have ridiculous windups, but he hits you once and you're goofy. Fight's over. Tough, tough, tough dudes like Bonnar and Vitor getting hit once and going down. Never seen anything like it and don't think we will for a while. He's the greatest athlete in sports right now, IMO. Can't go against him.

yea, he just makes the other fighters quit by doing stuff you mentioned above.
we, the humans, just say "oh my god, wtf was that?".

I'm not sure if I have the balls to pick it, but I think Weidman has an excellent shot at pulling the upset here.

Agreed. He's profiles like a younger Sonnen, basically, and hopefully he doesn't have holes in his sub game. It could be a classic. I don't remember what his TDs are like... is he a strict power double guy like Sonnen? I just remember him mauling Munoz.

I only watched the Munoz fight once but I'm almost positive he was switching from singles to doubles in that fight, successfully. He's also taken down dudes in the clinch in the past as well. He mixes it up man, that's what makes it interesting with that guy. At least for me.

I had to google what Chris Weidman looked like.
Not all that excited. Tom Lawler as your 3rd biggest victory doesn't thrill me.

^ I know what you mean. Hasn't fought in a while, plus level of comp isn't great. I think he's only had three maincard fights as well. Munoz is an impressive victory just because it was such a thumping... but is there anyone more overrated when you directly compare amateur wrestling credentials to MMA-applied wrestling? Leben took him down!

Weidman is only +250? Was hoping for more.

Re: UFC 162: Silva v. Weidman (July 6th-- update)
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre believes No. 1 middleweight contender Chris Weidman will defeat and finish Anderson Silva when the two meet at UFC 162 on July 6 in Las Vegas.
“My friend Chris Weidman, when I see him in training, I believe he’s going to beat Anderson Silva,” GSP recently told Sportsnet. “I believe it’s a bad matchup for Anderson Silva. It’s very bad.
“Not only is he going to beat, I believe he’s going to finish Anderson Silva,” GSP explained. “I believe it’s not going to be too long, that fight. People will be shocked.”
I agree with Cammo. I think Weidman is pretty damn well rounded and this is going to be a tough fight for Anderson. I certainly would not be comfortable proclaiming victory like GSP, but this is going to be a great fight.

My thoughts on Muñoz exactly. His wrestling never seemed to stack up to stack up to those credentials.

I saw -210 for Silva. I know, I know, they're set up that way to stimulate action... but that seems like insane odds for Anderson Silva.

Speaking of Leben, I saw the last guy who beat him on twitter ranting about how some fight was boring recently. ironing lulz.

WAR KZ !!!
lamas should be the (clear) favorite, right?
kz is ranked lower, off surgery ring rust, changing gym, etc.
lamas' g&p is brutal but kz is pretty active off his back.
hope to see kz wrapping his legs tight around lamas' neck.
with that said, the ufc needs to add better fights for this event.
other than silva/weidman & kz/lamas fights, the rest looks like an fx card, for now at least.
ok, gracie/kennedy fight is pretty interesting but it probably wont be a barnburner.

So winner of Lamas vs Jung is for the title it would seem, no? Is there a reason Jung has been out for a year? His win over Poirier was one of the best FOTY in 2012.
